I believe most do since about 70% of those leaving are conservatives doing so on political and economic grounds Most of the liberals that leavedont go to Texas and those fgsf do largely limit themselves to Austin.

big city life pays better, of course rent is higher, but if you work there 35 years, then retire to a cheaper State, you still get the Social Security benefits of living in a big city, and the cheaper rent to boot

But that isn't the primary reasons as numerous articles have shown.

Well, according to news reports readily available to anyone with internet, the population of California did decline.

California has more population than any other state hence it has the most of virtually anything.

Maybe those leaving are poor and under-educated or under-skilled for the current high tech fueled economy.

Or maybe they are rich liberal coding types that are going to buy up the mcmansions in other states and turn the locals into peasants working in perpetual service industry jobs

California still has up to 14% state income tax, Draconian gun laws, endless unfunded government employee pensions and now are starting to give away free monthly income to select population groups. That means even higher taxes on the horizon.

Blues in New York have to move mountains to own a gun. They voted for that. They don't want guns.

The issue is whether you want to raise your children in that urban environment in order to get that extra $25 a month in social security for doing the same job in a higher cost environment. Especially when they could have a bigger house, a yard, nice parks and better schools in the smaller community

Retirees in most cases don’t have to pay those taxes. As to gun laws, Siskiyou and the surrounding counties to the east and south are 2A sanctuary counties and the sheriffs there are quite free with CCW permits for law abiding citizens and don’t enforce anything gun related unless a crime is committed with one which almost never happens by a ccw permit holder.

It turns out people don't like to be excessively taxed and told every little thing about what they can and cannot do and paying ridiculous amounts of money for houses and rent.

    Unless you have another theory....

California is the reason that a proposition 65 warning is printed on a bag of wood chips for a smoker here in Florida. I kid you not evidently wood chips are carcinogenic.

    Fact.

Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee all have higher combined sales and local taxes than California.

    https://www.rockethq.com/learn/personal-finances/sales-tax-by-state

Also, the best way to counter that Prop 65 label is to simply have a cigarette, if you smoke.

Cost of living is high in California, probably because it is a very nice place to live. Supply and demand, the miracle of capitalism.

According to one of the other maps provided here in the thread, there are more people, per capita, leaving Louisiana than California. Is that because Louisiana is more liberal than California?

    who said they have children?

every 10k more you make is about $300 more a month up until about 70k, then it goes down to about $150 more a month after that - to many that could make retirement much better

Sure maybe if you sit there and breathe in excessive amounts of sawdust every day for 20 years. According to proposition 65 there isn't much that isn't carcinogenic.
