Last night's election was less Abbott's victory than Murdoch's

Yes, the Labor party was torn by fractional fighting - and for that it should hang it's head in shame but it was played on and exploited shamelessly by the Murdoch press.

ALP played a too defensive campaign. They didn't concentrate on their strengths, such as delivery a strong economy, because Murdoch, and the rest of the media, were harping on about how poorly the economy is doing, so they campaigned on doing better next term rather than pointing out that it's great right now.

Regardless of what anyone’s political persuasion is: no one can honestly say it’s a healthy situation for Australia, when one person owns and controls 70% of the countries media.

We are not forced to read newspapers or magazines, or watch TV, but for the majority of Australian people, that is still where they receive the majority of their daily political information from.

Therefore, biased opitions from the owners of these media outlets, would definately be considered to be influential - and they know it.

The sour grapes of those who want to complain about election losses has no bounds. We see people complaining that the ALP delivered a strong economy with low unemployment... In six years they raised unemployment from 0.4% to an expected 6%+. Low interest rates??? They believed the lies that the ALP has direct influence on interest rates and those interest rates are not used to kick an economy onto gear???

No, majority decided the ALP where deluded, simply throwing about lies not providing any real policy, simply wanting people to vote on the premise of what Rudd wanted to LOOK too.

Get over yourselves, the ALP lost and to become a credible government they need to rebuild and provide policy of substance. IF Abbott is true to his word, Australia will return to the polls quicker than people will think. I don't think so but if it does, the ALP has very little time to build some credibility.

Sour grapes are all that can be said.

Agreed - unfortunately I cannot see Rupert being reigned in on this because the LNP has always played to the big boys in town - usually at the expense of the poor old slob trying to make a basic living.

Rupert is elitist and makes Marie Antoinette look like a socialist

And I agree - labor should hang it's head in shame - they seem to have forgotten that their primary reason for being who they are and where they are is to stop the Rupert Murdochs and Gina Rineharts of this world treating the rest of us like cannon fodder.

But don't worry we now will have cured the "Boat people" problem because they will all be sent to Gina under 457 visas to work for $2 a day

Fine line between political advertising and "news". Murdoch has run a campaign effectively worth tens of millions for the Liberals. Of course it has a big impact, but then Rudd was only too happy to lap up the support of News Ltd in 2007.

I`m wondering which parts of the news people would have liked to have censored out?
How about Gillard`s slimy misogynist tantrum. Gillard knew she was lying, she knew that Abbott couldn`t defend himself, and it turned a lot of people off. Admittedly, the "dirty old hag" element got off on a man being bashed, but sensible people were disgusted.

Actually D, fibre to the node is a more immediate threat to FoxTel. It will roll out much quicker, and delivers enough service to allow competition with FoxTel.

Murdoch was worried about delivering high def TV through the internet which they won't be able to do with a max of 25Mbs.

The Carbon Tax isn't going. Abbott has only promised to change the tax to one on consumers instead of one on producers.

You won't get anything of normality conversing there panzer! lol!!

Yes, direct action is an indirect tax and a much greater burden on tax payers who will have to forego various services to ensure it is funded and works to reach the 5% reduction target. Abbott will propose an increase in the GST before the next election because he now has to remain honest. This is only one avenue that taxes will need to be increased.

Didn't he love dodging that question during the campaign? He squirmed whenever he was asked about it and then tried to change the topic.

    What a pointless thread....
The "murdoch is to blame" campaign run by the left really only worked on the braindead didnt it...as can be seen from the postings in this thread. The libs won because the MAJORITY of aussies wanted the policy and standings that the libs put forward....get over it.

Nope, the poles actually showed that Australians hate the policies put forward by the LNP.

Yes, politics won, the Australian people lost another political struggle. A population will always loose a political process (loose their freedom in the end) (because politics is backed up by the most massive media/propaganda ever and everybody has television) People can't see how they are organized, because that is what politics (ideology) plus propaganda non-stop does. Australia is also heading in the wrong direction politically too (don't pick a political 'winning' side), like all the other countries in and around the Middle East and the entire Western world (because the West (Europe) and the Middle East have writtten history before, the Romans two thousand years ago)

Truth is the LNP did not win Labor lost

The only true winner in all of this was Rupert

So the lowest alp vote since 1906 and a drop of almost a third in the greens vote while in almost every seat a rise in the lib vote AND the fact that the left has been reduced to under 60 seats...that ISNT a majority....LOL
