New feature: Like and Dislike added to posts

I think those others have earned points by appearing in Lesbian Movies. Not sure ... but I think that is where they can be found.

I get that all the time, you are not the only one confused.

 

Edit: I realize this is just repetition, but since it's still in development I'll throw in my opinion.

With regard to "dislikes", I completely agree with you that it provides no content or elaboration for why one dislikes the post, and if you're going to "dislike" it you may as well formulate your response.

But "liking" or "agreeing" with a post doesn't always require elaboration. There's nothing gained by someone quoting you, using one of the 500 limited messages per thread just to say "Ya, I agree". This provides the opportunity for someone to post their concurrence with a post in a more efficient manner that saves everyone reading time and saves space on the threads. Unlike in the current reputation system, I like how you can have your name shown visibly, and that there's nagging message telling you that you must "like" so many other posts before you can like one from the same person again. So, while "disliking"/"disagreeing" is rather counter-productive, there's something to be said about "agreeing"/"Liking".

I also agree with concerns about it turning into a popularity test. Just having your name below someone's post as "agreeing" or "disagreeing" is fine. If we're going above and beyond that, I think it would be neat to be able to click on a person and be able to see all the posts that they "liked", but there's no need to add a reputation bar or any feature of that nature that rewards people based on how often their posts are liked.

 

Who are all those people on the 'achievement' list? Any idea???

I just Googled about 1/2 dozen names on the list, and all those folks are 'all over the Inet!' Some type of "Prolific" rating, but totaled and awarded by Whom?!!

I have to disagree. I may "dislike" a post simply because I consider it trolling, arguing the absurd, pointlessly insulting, etc. - things that may not merit the appearance of legitimacy given by actually posting a response. That said, I wouldn't object to being asked to provide the reason for the dislike - I'll be more than happy to provide a one-word answer for why. But I don't want to waste my time having to elaborate and wind up getting bogged down by engaging a troll.

Yeah, I notice that there is a certain right winger on this forum who likes to post a dislike for everything I say. He does not refute anything as he has not the slightest proof that anything I write is incorrect in any way. But because I post the Truth he objects repeatedly because of his hatred for that Truth. You just had to know right wingers with their hate would use the format for that purpose.

 

I also thought about that, and so looked at several forums the above 1/2 dozen were on and didnt see vBulletin on Home pages as when done..?! Still a mystery...but, SMW you seeem to be competing with 'the rest of the world'...

 

Meh. Just don't respond to the troll at all unless you think there's something to be gained by having your name and a dislike under their post. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other on it, I just don't see I as a particularly beneficial feature.

 

Funny, there's only one 'right-winger' on the top dislike list and he's at least 150 dislikes under the left-winger leaders.

Anybody who thinks there's no 'list' being kept... go to Quick Links -- Member Likes/Dislikes. From there, you can also see which threads have received the most likes/dislikes. They're measuring and reporting it to death.

 

See previous post. It's not a judgment call... it's what the list shows.

 

I honestly only know a few of those names, but Montoya does not represent the left. Not by a longshot. And I thought that 2 of the names on that list were people on the right, and I don't know where 2 of the other names stand.

But having said that, my post was in response to you saying "the left" was trying to silence people, by disliking their posts. I have yet to see compelling evidence of the truth of that statement. I don't see how disliking a post silences it, it is not like this is youtube and enough negative votes will hide your comment. Their dislike of your post is irrelevant, and does nothing to silence you or anyone else. It is just a childish game, sort of like the rep game you and your friends used to play(still play?). No big deal, doesn't really effect the forum in any significant way. It just effects the egos of people who actually care if some one dislikes their posts or not.
