Most states have laws that say that felons cannot have a gun and you cannot posess guns in some cities.
Meaning I do not generally carry a gun away from the house, except for occasional target practice.. However, I do keep one in the house for defense of my wife and I in the event of home invasion.

But anyone else should have the right to a gun including those attending the Pence event ( I can talk around in circles, too:) )

    That IS self defense.

From what I've seen, most of those planning to attend are wearing red MAGA baseball caps, and some of them are carrying pictures of a very large, poorly-dressed man in an ill-fitting suit and a crotch-length
    broad red tie.
Although the NRA and those who swallow its propaganda will never admit it, having guns in public or in a household is a terrible idea. Roughly 1300 children are shot to death in the USA each year, and as one would naturally assume, most of those tragic deaths occur in red states with a high rate of gun ownership. A large number of the gun homicides that occur each year in the United States involve one family member in a gun-owning household shooting another.

    https://www.cnn.com/2017/06/19/health/child-gun-violence-study/index.html

Someone who lives in a gun-owning household is much more likely to be shot to death that someone who lives in a gun-free household.

You'd have to ask the Secret Service who's rule it is.

    Its not the NRA's rule.

They are stupid for thinking some minor regulation will end gun violence.

HR 347 signed into law by Barack Obama prevents firearms from being on the premises when Secret Service are on site.

Are you suggesting the NRA should violate federal law?

I made this point previously. Even if the NRA allowed weapons into this convention, most NRA members would not be carrying weapons. It would be a relatively small percentage.

I would feel perfectly safe with the secret service carrying weapons. Especially since they will most likely be carrying sub machine guns which are illegal for the rest of us.

They compromise. They realize the compromise they have to make for Mike Pence to speak. We're not like gun control folks who never compromise.

The above study never examines how the gun was obtained. In my general observation, most law-abiding gun owners are rarely involved in misuse of guns.

The VP's attendance was the ONLY factor involved in the decision to ban guns at the convention. I suggest that you research the facts before committing yourself to an argument that you cannot justify.

"It's better to. keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.". . . . Knowing the facts is the best way to avoid embarrassment.

That proves my point Einstein! That means it wasnt the NRAs choice. Also when you see a concert was the Vice President there? If not did they let you carry weapons and guns in? The answer is no they did not. Your second part of your post is spot on...best to just keep quiet as you just illustrated.

WHY NOT? Aren't guns safe? Doesn't everyone need a weapon to defend themselves? Just arm Pence and problem solved...

So aren't the NRA and gun worshippers screaming at the Secret Service for taking away their rights ???

Guns are safe so why does the SS want to ban them at this event???

The secret service is paranoid. They have one job, and don't think about anything besides that job. They want what makes their job easier.

The Secret Service doesn't want to take the chance that some liberal nutjob will take a shot at Pence - you know, like the guy at the GOP congressional baseball practice some time ago.
