Shalom. Our true enemies are the Shia terrorists in Iran and Syria. Islamic State has killed loads of Shia.

Should we get a deal from IS to attack Assad and the Shia in Iran, but to leave the Iraqis alone?

    God bless Israel and USA.

There is no reason to think the leadership of ISIS would adhere to any agreement reached, and much reason to believe they would not. I was tempted to choose the nuclear option in your poll, primarily because there is no viable option to deal with much of the Middle East other than eliminating it completely. I would love to simply ignore the whole region...but it seems they will not allow that to happen.

    No.

Every time we cut a deal with one nut job to fight another nut job it blows up in our faces. If we keep playing the game of 'which one is less worse this week' we'll be playing the game forever. It's time to accept the fact we either choose to live in a world with Al-Qaeda, Assad, and ISIS or acknowledge that we're willing to do the work to remove them.

Yes it's expensive and folks will get hurt. But post-poning these things always seems to make them more costly in every way.

There is no way of every "negotiating" with a crazed cult like that. It will always be there way or nothing.

Israel is partially why we are in this mess.

Muslim extremists hate the USA because we support Israel, without question.

Muslim extremists hate the USA because they are unhappy with their lives. That we support Israel is just one excuse.

(... and why are they unhappy with their lives?)

(*)(*)(*)(*) the Muslim extremists. Blaming the victim for the actions of criminals is wrong. Got your house robbed? Well, you're partially to blame for having more than others.

I provisionally voted for the nuclear option if by "Middle East" you also mean Israel.

The nuclear option is genocide and doing it makes us no better than ISIS.

No it's war. War is what you do when discussion of what's right can no longer solve the problem. You go to war when you stop caring about who is right, and focus on who is going to survive.

Israel is guilty in many ways.

stealing land, illegally evicting Arab residents, illegally stripping Arabs of their residency status, the list goes on and on.

Yep, it is war. But our survival is not in jeopardy.

I would like to hear ISIS's rationale for what they are doing. And then kill 'em.

Whitewash it however you like, but it's mass murder, not war. It's something cowards do; launch a multimegaton strike against millions of innocent women and children because they are such (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) they are afraid one terrorist might come to the USA.

we should gather more support from the Muslim world, and together offer ISIS one week to surrender.

after that, we bomb all of ISIS to the stone age.

Fanatics don't surrender, but I agree we need to work with the moderate Muslim nations to reach a suitable solution to the problems of violence in the Middle East.

The Taliban did the same as ISIS is doing right now, and there have been negotiations with the Taliban more than once.

Taliban did beheadings, hung people, lapidated people to death, blew up monuments, so was even worse than ISIS.

So this proofs that the people's minds have been radicalized (higher level of fear and emotion has built up over the years)

The images of beheadings and even without the images (only news stories, can even be propaganda, no verification possible) have more affect on people's minds than before the terror of 9/11 and the Taliban.

Psywars always work, they put the masses in fear (emotions build up), and when they find out they have been deceived, they start to wake up and can become a new movement, and that can lead to another revolution and bad world history.

Disagreed on worse, but agreed the Taliban committed the atrocities you've stated.

Part of it is that, in the past, people were more willing to "give peace a chance" as we did with the Taliban. Now, most people realize fanatics do not negotiate in good faith. They cannot be trusted, only killed.

*shrug* Terrorists, bullets, bombs... they're all weapons. You launch weapons into another country, expect some to come back your way. I'm not saying war is moral or brave -- and I could care less if you think it is. But when you swing that sword at me, expect me to swing back.

And mine is bigger than yours.

War doesn't decide who is right, war decides who is left.
better a clean quick death than what their own people will put them through eventually

How long until the next group decides they can rule the middle east and starts the stuff all over?
    What moderate Muslim nations?
