"Angry protesters forced three buses carrying undocumented immigrants to turn around Tuesday in Southern California. The immigrants had arrived in San Diego from south Texas and were on their way to be processed at the Murrieta Border Patrol station." (read the full article: http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/01/us/california-immigrant-transfers/index.html?hpt=us_c2)

1.) Unless these people are racists, which they may or may not be, I don't understand the targeting of people immigrating from the south (Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, etc.)- are they not aware of the massive amounts of people from Europe and Asia who immigrate to the U.S. each year? Moreover, the fact of the matter is that the people from Europe and Asia are the ones taking all the "good" jobs as doctors, scientists, business men and so forth. And I hate to be this blunt but if we stopped allowing immigrants from the South to enter the US, who would work in the fields of California, or watch peoples' kids or clean peoples' houses? The people doing those jobs now have kids who won't be living that lifestyle forever b/c if they were born here they have citizenship and more promising opportunities school and the labor force.

2.) I don't think there would be such a big problem with only light immigration laws and more open borders only if it was easier to get citizenship in this country...I have no personal experience with the process of obtaining citizenship in the US, but from what I've heard it's an extremely long, complicated, confusing, pain-in-the-ass process. The way I look at it is this: if these people are free of diseases, have had their vaccinations, so on, they're records are clean, preferably educated or open to receiving education, are willing to work, learn English, pay taxes, so forth, why not let them in?

These immigrants you mention who are coming in from Europe are doing it the "right way". There is a reason why correct immigration policy is a good thing. Maybe not so much in recent years, because of attitudes like yours, but American Citizenship is a hugely valued status in the world. In all of our high-tech businesses, there is a lack of qualified people, so it's a good thing that scientists from other countries want to come here. If we lower the bar to allow the bunch that you are willing to welcome, we have a majority who are willing to pick the produce, but no-one who knows how to grow our society.

Civilization was a result of agriculture- if we don't have people to pick the produce, we won't be able to progress as a society no matter how many doctors or scientists we have.

    1) Immigrating? These people aren't immigrating, they are nothing more than economic refugees. Do you not know that the largest influx of legal immigrants is actually from Mexico and that they are also the highest number in adjustment of status to LPR and citizenship. Field work in CA? Why don't the farmers use the H2A visa, it has no annual cap and they can bring in as many as they need. Watch peoples kids? Day Care and house cleaning? SMFH. :roflol: If an illegals child is born here it is assumed to have US Citizenship, the states do not check status to grant WIC or other welfare benefits, they require a US birth certificate simply to qualify the easiest way to receive these benefits. A USBC is not proof of citizenship.

2)You're assuming they want to come here for citizenship, some do, many only want the right to work here to be able to return home in a higher status or class due to their countries own class-ism. If you have no personal experience, then maybe you should do some research prior to.....
As for your way of looking at this, your not looking far enough forward. Our resources are not finite. The process you are describing assumes they want citizenship, it should not be an easy process. If all they want to do is come here to work, then we can limit where they can work so not to take away from those in our society.

most of these individuals are trying to escape violence in their home countries. Like I said, if that's the case and they're willing to work, we should let them in.

also, it doesn't matter why they're coming here- perhaps I placed too much emphasis on that. What matters is what they do once they're here, most of them take jobs doing things that other people would consider themselves too good to do, such as field work, house cleaning, etc. So if they're not coming here for citizenship, that's fine, but we still need people to do those jobs that are largely performed by foreigners.

Um, no. Some of them maybe escaping violence (violence as in gang related as there is only one S American country that has a status of refugee right now), not most. Most are economic refugees.

Most do jobs for much less than what other people would consider doing the job for. Most in Agriculture are actually legal workers, not illegals, the same with house cleaning and day care. These jobs are still largely performed by citizens, not foreigners.

Do some simple, basic research, it will eliminate your claims and may actually enlighten you a bit.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make, exactly. You haven't actually stated any opinion, but simply attempted to disprove things I've said with zero evidence to back up these random claims your making.

That's right, I haven't stated any opinion, I have stated well known facts that are easily looked up with a simple google search, why else would I tell you to do some basic research since you are the one that stated you really don't have any experience in it.

You can easily look up what I have stated to verify it.

It suggests that the parents are trying to put the cart before the horse or the parents are already here and think they can use the child as a stepping stone for legality.

Less than 5% of all the illegals work in Agriculture. Illegals can also collect UI in some states, and if they are hurt while at work they can collect WC. If they were concerned about being caught, they wouldn't be filing tax forms with ITIN's yearly.

That may be that less than 5% of illegals work in agriculture, however in 2013 there was an estimated 11.4 million illegal immigrants in the US. There are only about 749,400 agricultural workers in the US. Considering those numbers, illegals could make up the entire agricultural industry!

They could, but they don't, so then do we have to many illegals since we have over 20M unemployed/underemployed persons in the US?

Yeah, there are too many illegals because it's too damn hard to gain citizenship here.

You assume they want citizenship, they have a myriad of paths via visa they can use, yet they don't, why not? If they can pay a coyote $5K to cross the border and a visa can be had for less than $500, why would they choose the coyote?

I understand this, not all of them are looking for citizenship, but a lot are. If we can offer the ones that are looking for citizenship what they're looking for, the number of illegals would drop as they would gain citizenship.

Citizenship requires a visa to obtain entry and to be in a parole type status, it is not you just apply for and attain citizenship.

Why should we offer them citizenship? Is it not up to us and our needs, not theirs? If we don't need them, why should we grant them?

Because the entire US is made up of immigrants and descendants of immigrants, with an exception for only a few. There's a lot of good people who would like to gain citizenship in the US. Good people who would bring a lot of good and beneficial things to society. And also, we would have no reason not to let them in after background checks, etc.

People should generally be allowed to enter this country and gain citizenship.

If they aren't bringing anything to our society by simply being here (they cost our GDP -1%, and they do not pay enough in local taxes to cover their local costs), how is granting them citizenship going to change that? If anything by granting them citizenship they will further cost our society even more since they will then be able to attain all benefits and privileges, furthering our individual costs.

I just said that a lot of them will be bringing a lot to our society. Most of them are very good people.

Being very good people doesn't bring anything to a society, what of the costs they bring now, what about the magnified costs once they become citizens?

I completely disagree. I think being a good person brings a lot to society.

    What of "the costs"?

They cost us as illegals, they will cost even more as citizens with eligibility to benefits they have not contributed into or enough into to cover themselves, so who gets stuck paying for it? or do you think money simply magically appears?
