I know myself and others have reported such violations countless times, but it seems some people are above such moderation.

this is just THE FIRST PAGE.

This forum has been going down hill for quite some time. It started with the allowance of dozens upon dozens of birther threads clogging up the current events forum.

I think there's a similarity between all of those threads...

A similarity that has been addressed before, to no avail...

    I wonder why...

I think it is just the reality that there are not enough moderators for the size of this site.

There should basically be a mod for every section of the board just for starters I would think, but the reality is there are far less then that.

That is why it appears, I think, to your premise that the "rules don't apply".

They are overwhelmed and cannot act fast enough to our complaints or reports.

This makes sense, and I believe has been stated before...

However, some violations are so blatant that it should take no time to deal with them...

Like the subject of this thread, for example...

Whether a thread has sufficiently set a basis for respectful debate on the thread topic will be at the discretion of the moderators.

sometimes a thread is started and has gone on for pages so even if I do not like the OP I will let it continue

sometimes what you may think is a violation is not

and TheHat is spot on there often pages of reports and no Mod availible as we all have Jobs and families too

You would be 100% accurate, Hat. We try, but we can't get to everything, unfortunately.

    We are working on it.

Difficult 'job' being a mod to a large site like this.

As well as real life responciblities. Have to sort through hundreds of posts and topics. Although it could explain why the rules here are very loose. Too much information for volunteer workers to handle.

I believe there is no uniformity of guideline enforcement, for whatever the reason.

    It's unfortunate.

    There en-lies the Rub ... Subjectivity ...

One Man's or Woman's discretion is another violation.

I happen to be one of few words, especially with a picture is worth hundreds, but that's my opinion.

Well it seems you got your wish. This person is now banned.

How about one person making 8 threads related to Rush Limbaugh...what do you call that??? Should this person be banned too???

The difference is that those are all different threads, discussing a different event. Other such posts, like posting the exact same image or video in the same, or multiple threads, and creating the exact same thread in multiple forums, is completely different.

The mods here are certainly overworked, periodically insulted and for all that these dedicated mods carry on without any compensation other than the satisfaction of helping the forum.

We definitely need more mods to take some of the pressure off of the current staff.

No seriously, I saw a former mod posting today that I haven't seen in awhile and it goes back to the crux of this thread.

I don't think we have enough mods anymore.

JP5, Shiva, 12th Man, cenydd, subby, Makedde. Is there anybody I am leaving out?

Raytri, EPV, Tarheeler and a bunch of others are no longer mods or simply don't post here anymore.

Not being ugly or anything, it's just hard to stay on top of a site this large with 6 people who are never on all at the same time. That is why it appears the "rules don't apply", as the title of the thread states.

Why have a moderated site anyway?
I think that we need to do away with both mods and the goofy profanity filter.
It's not like the rules are being enforced evenly or sufficiently.
I have not seen one thread that goes on for more than a few posts in the currents events and political opinion sections that is not derailed after a few posts and simply turns into a meaningless diarrhea of drivel.
If the mods can't do anything about that, then moderation is a waste of time.
People can take care of themselves.
