San Antonio City Council votes to label term China Virus as hate speech

Think of all the names the left has come up with to call conservatives; there are tons of them. Why can't you just call us cons rather than white supremacists and nationalists? And what's wrong with calling it the china virus? Acosta called it the Wuhan virus before China got the WHO to change the name.

Of all the viruses named after geographical locations, why is the left upset with this one?

Trump was called racist for implementing travel restrictions from China. Imagine if he hadn't. Because the US is vast and a one size fits all response would be overkill, he let states handle the issue and he has supported them as needed. It's worked well for most of the US. New York is a glaring exception. Cuomo sent infected people into nursing homes and waited until late April to disinfect subway cars. For a huge population density that is completely dependent on mass transit, cleaning subways and buses should have been a day one priority. New York's numbers show their incompetence. What states are using this situation to justify budget deficits?

 

Trump virus? Not only is that absolutely false, but it's a glaring example of hypocritically saying it's ok to name the virus after a US president but not the country where it originated and globally exported it.

 

Why do idiots beat up people with MAGA hats or go polar bear hunting? None of that is ever considered bigoted or racist by the left. And with the left's obsession with hoaxes, I'm imagining many of these so call attacks are BS.

Do you think the government with its constitutional boundaries are allowed to prosecute that. Who's beating up the Chinese people, this is about geographical location. If anyone is getting beat up it's the Communist dictatorial government and they deserve it certainly you don't disagree on that do you? Can I scroll back and find your outrage over Lyme disease, West Nile Virus, Spanish flu or is this outrage just because Trump used the phrase?

 

Amazing isn't it, Trump utters the phrase and now it's racist to call a virus or disease by it's geographical origins.

 

And at the same time complain he didn't act soon enough as if he should have shut down the entire country back in December and of course they all would have supported that......

 

Does it now? I was lead to believe it spreads through Chinese people and only effects Chinese people. That's why it's called the 'Chinese Virus'. As for Kentucky Bourbon? How do you figure?

You can't use religion to justify bigotry? Oh the horrors! What will they be forced to do instead, create a positive atmosphere for everyone involved and try to bridge across differences?

Now if you want to put words in my mouth it's better to ask what other contexts it applies to. I think the names should be changed, but that doesn't mean they carry the same weight. When was the last time you heard someone say something bad about the Spanish? But if we look at the start of COVID-19, we can see an increase in the number of hate crimes against Asian Americans. One way to stop the spread of that is not calling a virus after an entire ethnic identity.

No, it means that people can't use their words to put people down and it forces them to acknowledge the other side as human. That's like saying PF craps on the constitution because it makes you be nice to the other side.

The virus originated in China. Naming it Chinavirus is neither wrong nor offensive.
