I have no problem with that. Just too bad that atheists have not been the conduit for basic morality, but religion has been. Perhaps your team should do something about that? How many atheists are now teaching basic morality, that would even come close to the job religion has done? After all, morality is social conditioning. So get busy conditioning in a very large manner. All that I have heard over the years are atheists griping about repressive morality. And how religion is so bad because they have a moral code of conduct. One gets the idea if we left things up to atheists, going by history, we would have a world that looked like Stalin's Russia. No thanks. While I am not a member of any organized religion, at least I do have eyes, and a brain, and can figure out just how great atheism is, when it comes to giving these people power over others. lol While I do agree with what Sam Harris says about atheism and morality, one must also consider just how intelligent Harris is, and how he does not reflect that many atheists in intelligence. So Sam can get to morality by pure reason, and live by what reason dictates....yet most people are just not that intelligent nor reasonable. And if you do not condition them to be moral, you can just forget about it.
I think this should be a parental responsibility to explain the importance of authority. Schools could back-up parents and educate children who the police are and their role in society . Police brutality has been featured in the media for a while now; I remember in the UK there was an instance when the police shot a black gentleman. This created a riot in many cities. The police should be admired and not chastised; education and leading by example is the only way to overcome the stigma that all police officers are crooked.
Not exactly true. Post Nation What the police officer who shot Philando Castile said about the shooting . : Yanez: “I, believe I continued to tell him don’t do it or don’t reach for it and he still continued to move. And, it appeared to me that be had no regard to what I was saying. He didn’t care what I was saying. He still reached down. … And, at that point I, was scared and I was, in fear for my life and my partner’s life. And for the little girl in the back and the front seat passenger and he dropped his hand down and, can’t remember what I was telling him but I was telling something as his hand went down I think. And, he put his hand around something. And his hand made like a C shape type um type shape and it appeared to me that he was wrapping something around his fingers and almost like if I were to put my uh hand around my gun like putting my hand up to the butt of the gun.” Investigator: “Okay.” Yanez: “That’s what it appeared to me.” Yanez then said he kept seeing Castile moving his hand and “saw something in his hand,” adding that the driver “had no regard for what I was saying. Didn’t follow my direction.”
And I never said that, did I? No one knows how much that "small minority" is though and from the number documented, it's far too many IMO. Neither is defending, marginalizing the problem or trying to sweep it under the rug. But again, no one said ALL police, at least not I.
Phooey. The jury was deadlocked for a week. They voted for acquittal after it was clear they were given no other choice by the judge.
Example of how to treat a cop: Ten years ago or so I was passing through a city on a long vacation and decided to ride my bike somewhere to avoid traffic. I raced across an intersection with the don't walk sign clearly flashing. On came the lights and a cop pulled me over. He said I don't know if I'm going to ticket you or not, let's see if you can talk your way out of this. I was pushing 60 and this cop was half my age. My first instinct was he wanted me to beg for no ticket and I almost said I don't give a **** just give me a ticket. Then I thought I'll drop the ego BS and just tell him the truth. I told him I had not ridden in a city environment since I was a teenager. I always lived way out in the woods and rode my mountain bike there or took it to some other mountain or desert area to ride. My frame of mind was to go for it, have fun. Pick a line and see if you can make it or crash trying. I then said I guess that doesn't fly here. He paused and looked at my scraped up leg and my baggy ripped shorts and T shirt and said " I can tell by looking at you and your bike that looks like it would be more at home on a motocross track than a city street that you are being straight with me. You think you can ride here like your in a car and follow the rules of the road?" I said well that sure takes the fun out of riding a bike but I guess I can yeah. He said have a nice day and got back in his car. Be cooperative, don't be confrontational and treat a cop like you would any other human being and odds are things will end well.
only after half voted for guilty - too bad a simple majority wouldn't suffice or the cop would be in jail today
It seems the rest of your post contradicts that. You mean like the Crusades and the Inquisition? Yeah right. I don't have a "team", am not part of any "team" nor would I want to be. I'm just Bob. You really mean group-think indoctrination based on myths? I'm not aware of any poll on that subject. True, it does depend on what that "social conditioning" is though. For me, that "social conditioning" took the form of religious schooling when I was a child, so it eventually formed the basis of my personal version of morality. It was far from the one they tried to indoctrinate me with though. IMO when organized religion is often the historical cause of genocide and other human rights atrocities, there is also an immoral code of conduct associated with it. It is a double edged sword. Individuals in power do individual things, just like not all religious people engage in atrocities, the same is true with atheists. The difference is organized religion is group-think mentality for the purpose of a few controlling the many (similar to government). There is no formal teaching of atheism that I'm aware of.
Did the cop get an all white jury? Did any of them after the trial say " We gots enough white cops in jail already"?
singing group - you mean like a church choir?? That sure is a funny line as those were the innocent guys who were falsely accused by racist white cops of engaging in "Wilding" or rape attacks on white women. It will be recalled that racist Hitlerian Rush Limbaugh said this incident was "proof" that all black men were out to rape every white woman they could find. Racist Trump called for the execution of those innocents. Years later the white cops who committed those Hitlerian crimes on those innocent black men remain happily retired on fat pensions financed by taxpayers when they should have been hung for their crimes.
The officer, Jeronimo Yanez, is of Hispanic descent. Yanez told Castille not to reach for it or pull it out 3 times before he started firing. Castille, after telling the officer he had a gun, should have sat still and followed the officer's instructions.
And there are parents who say the same thing to their kids about teachers...ya know, them “libral” teachers. Teachers also enforce unwanted rules. Teaching any child to confront a cop and make a child believe that all cops are bullies is just plain terrible. Teaching your child the police want to take advantage of you is encouraging a child to get in trouble. If I heard a parent tell a student that I would probably call for the parent. Obviously you have been bullied and your perspective in my opinion is a little bit skewed
I am not experienced enough in these matters to know the best way to subdue and apprehend someone, Seth. But what the video makes crystal-clear is that at one point the perp was on the floor with arms outstretched. The, suddenly, he quickly reached down toward the waistband of his pants with one arm. As a former police officer, confronted with that lightning-quick development, demanding an equally lightning-quick determination with action on your part, what would you do...? Maybe I'm just madder than holy hell at the fact that in just a little over a month we've had so many policemen killed in the line of duty in this country, and maybe I'm even madder than that at liberal judges and organizations like the ACLU that constantly antagonize and obstruct nearly every attempt by our police to protect us from these criminal creatures that wreck their own lives, those of their victims, and that of our entire society. But, as it is, from now on, I want to see the police go to every call equipped with full body armor, helmets, shields, and powerful weapons fully-loaded, ready to fire in a heartbeat. Because, Seth, and you know how true this is -- if they misjudge what a perp might do, that 'hearbeat' could be their last....
