I love this, did anybody actually look to the dates??? From simply ordering the dates into division between below 2008 and above 2008 you find 1054 people died after 2008 and 397 died before. (give or take one or two)

If I was looking for hypocrisy here. The No.1 candidates would be those, who profess to be humane, while ignoring the death rate of this issue. Surely the most urgent priority has to be to prevent further deaths at sea?

 

He no doubt knows that the coalition policy plays to the ideals of the xenophobes and racists! You just have to check out the comments on this thread by those who aren't concerned about the deaths at sea but keeping out people from different backgrounds, skin colour and languages. There are those that pretend that it is about deaths at sea, but it's not hard to see what their underlying attitudes are!

Aussies have been very generous in welcoming all different sorts of people, just because most of us are sane enough to have limits doesnt make us xenophobes or racists. I feel ashamed when I read some of the stuff here. It's one thing to have opinions on how to deal with the refugee situation, but quite another when the words 'scumbags' and 'criminals' get thrown around. We already put refugees in detention and we already practise expulsion. If you're asking me whether I would discard the 'people's wish' to be inhumane towards refugees, then yes, I would certainly discard their 'wish'. Innocent people should not be put in detention. They are breeding grounds for mental illness and despair.
