Iowa offers some of the most affordable electricity rates in the US. They are utilizing a "wind first" philosophy, with natural gas as a backup. To take advantage of this FREE resource is a SMART thing to do. If some minor subsidies were used to get to this point, where all residents benefit, then power to them. What you don't mention is the other power generation options - coal and nuclear are so expensive that Iowa rates would probably be double the current rates. And you want to talk about subsidies - let's talk an entire federal government branch - the NRC - which oversees all that nuclear waste.

Wind will be "the gift that just keeps on giving" for Iowans.

LOL, you simply can't see that he still believes in what he stated 10 years ago since he is STILL in it for the tax credits nothing more as he pockets 6 BILLION in just the last three years it is obvious that you are ignoring the link and continuing your silly cheerleading of an industry being propped up by subsidies and tax credits.

It is YOU who is ignoring financial realities.......

Yes, power is “cheap” in Iowa because taxpayers are heavily subsidizing it. Without subsidies it wasn’t competitive with other energy sources. Your boy Chuck says so.

Another counterpoint free reply from you while I had the GALL to post actual information from Business insider thus you are batting zero here.

Your mindless cheerleading of a low mass power producer only damages your credibility.

I QUOTED Warren Buffet while the article you still didn't read makes clear many investors are into it for the absurdly generous tax breaks which is where they get their profits.

Tell that to BYD shareholders who just realized a 10% gain in one day, as BYD is now undisputably the top auto seller in the world, manufacturing only electrified vehicles

LOL, you are now deflecting to something else a clear sign that you have no cogent argument to sell after all, while I am honestly still on the article about overly generous subsidies and tax breaks and Warren Buffet.

You should stop now as others here can see you are here to dishonestly cheerlead EV's and Ruinables while ignoring the bucket load of problems they generate.

Buffet was/is also an investor in BYD. So you see- it’s not just about subsidies with Buffett. The guy knows where things are heading. I’m also doing quite well. Over the years - Vestas (wind energy), Tesla, , BYD, CATL ( thru a fund investment), Goldman Sachs, etc. Go ahead - buy stock in a primarily ICE company - watch it tank…

Sure. The CCP is giving BYD billions of dollars as well as higher purchase premiums than other Chinese manufacturers of EVs. It’s easy to be “profitable” while undercutting real market value when you are highly subsidized by the CCP.

$ 3.7 billion is a number popularly reported. The US gives grants to universities for similar research. Do you see a difference? Not sure I do…I’m wondering if China is simply more effective with their targeted subsidizing.

Universities are building EVs with batteries made in Indonesia out of minerals smelted using captive coal power plants? Really? I’m not aware this is the case. Do you have any evidence?

Are university researchers billionaires profiting from government cash payments as well as government purchase contracts for the EVs they build and sell?

Yes, I see a difference between a university grant for research and a dictatorial government “politician” getting billions in cash subsidies as well as market distorting purchase premiums to build and sell a product for profit. You don’t? Really? Hmmmm.

First, you’ve revised your argument. You’re now saying that the CCP is giving research money to the most powerful politicians. I would argue that they are subsidizing the most promising companies. Does the US do much different when they give a grant to MIT?

And here’s some Corporate grant money. Reported widely.

Biden administration awards $2.8 billion in grants for electric vehicle battery manufacturing

The founder of BYD is not the most powerful politician. That has nothing to do with my posts at all. I’m simply trying to educate you. In another thread yesterday you said this about BYD.

You are posting disinformation about BYD because I’ve shown you before BYD is heavily subsidized but you keep claiming their success is free market based without subsidies. This is misinformation if you don’t know better. But you know better, making it disinformation when you post it.

I understand some people are infatuated with the CCP and their partnership with businesses. I don’t really care except when Americans let that infatuation blind them to reality. You are saying BYD is doing fine without subsidies. That’s simply not true!

Again, university research is not the same as a politician founded business using government subsidies to undercut world markets. It’s just not.

I understand you are profiting from Chinese subsidies to BYD. You have a vested interest in defending the CCP distorting world markets while enriching a prominent member of the CCP. You are along for the ride. But at least try to be honest about what’s really going on. Stop claiming BYD is entering global markets organically without massive cash subsidies and other government market interventions. That’s simply not true.

I don’t see how distribution of disinformation helps the environment. It damages the credibility of those who claim to care.

    SMH.

He hasn’t served since 2018, but he was a member of the NPC for 5 years from 2013 to 2018. He was in education/research, politics, and business.

I’m sure you don’t care, but BYD isn’t what you’ve been led to believe it is.

It’s funny how conservatives like you cheer for government subsidizing billionaires and putting the wealthiest’s interests above those of the workers.

Strawman. I’m not making any comparison to the US. I’m not a fan of the US government subsidizing big business either. That’s for right winger conservatives….

    @Media_Truth,

This may interest you. A little more information on what horse you’ve hitched your cart to. BYD is a disaster when it comes to environmental protection and sustainability as well as human rights. It’s easy to sell cheap cars when you don’t care about polluting the environment and exploiting labor in the process. When you use components manufactured with dirty captive coal plant energy and child or slavery labor, it’s not hard to build low cost. Especially when you get massive subsidies from governments as well. I guess as long as a stock makes you money, it doesn’t matter how much the company pollutes or how much labor is exploited. It’s all about profit. Kind of like the common criticism of fossil fuel industries. Oddly similar….

LOL. An organization with these goals did the analysis.

    https://leadthecharge.org/scorecards/

What’s your thing with BYD? Why do you think a Chinese billionaire CCP member would run an environmentally responsible and socially equitable business? Why don’t you think an organization with the above goals can’t assess the shortcomings of the company you are trying to profit off of?

When “human rights” are thrown into the equation, the analysis becomes a difference over cultures and politics. China, Japan, and Korea have different philosophies regarding work ethics. Unions are unheard of in Asian countries. On the contrary, a country like France has more time off than Americans.

I’m not going any further with this argument, but it probably belongs in a thread about pro- Union or anti- Union.
