Fulton County DA Fani Willis case against Trump can continue if she or special prosecutor Wade remove themselves, judge rules

ATLANTA — A Georgia judge ruled Friday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should not be disqualified from prosecuting the racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants — with one major condition.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee found the "appearance of impropriety" brought about by Willis' romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade should result in either Willis and her office leaving the case — or just Wade, who she'd appointed to head the case.

The choice is likely to be an easy one: If Willis were to remove herself, the case would come to a halt, but having Wade leave will ensure the case continues without further delay.

This isn't a bad outcome in one respect. The case will continue. But I'm bothered at how the judge has fallen in to the trap of bending over backwards to ensure the case is conducted in a fair way in the eyes of the public.

Just as Garland bent over backwards to give the appearance of fairness in the Biden documents investigation by appointing a Repub. Only to have his efforts blow up in his face when Hur issued a highly politicized report.

You are mad that the judge wants the case conducted in a fair way??? How strange.

Absolutely nothing about the conduct of Wade or Willis threatened to affect the fairness of the way the trial was to be handled. I'm concerned about the affect Trumpery is having on public perception. This was a concession to an unfounded, hail Mary attempt to remove Willis's office and thus shut down the case.

I think you should be upset with Fani and her terrible decision making.

Well their is the perjury thing which by itself should get them pulled from the case as it is hard to run a trial from a jail cell. In the other hand the case has been pretty thoroughly gutted by the dismissal of six of its most basic building blocks.

Well, all they had to do was admit to the affair and have Wade step away, but, instead, they tried to cover it up and likely tainted the case for the future and for the history books and I fully believe that Trump is guilt as sin of conspiring to steal an election. Jury selection if it even gets there, will be interesting. The Trump team will be making a ton of bar referrals upcoming that will also affect the case. The stakes are too high to have put Wade on the case in the first place and she lost credibility with the judge IMO.

Crooked Donnie was given an unnecessary "life line"....my 2 cents. ;)

Since this makes it clear to you and other MAGAs that the case will be conducted in a fair way, I'm good with that.

Don't go changing your narrative later in the process if what is proven later in this "case conducted in a fair way" (your words) does not favor the "Orange Idol", though.

He can change his narrative as much as he pleases. Why do people on the left think they can boss strangers around?
    Very strange!

You have a problem with the trial looking fair? Really?...lol

Ya know, for all of you all's going on about "justice" and "upholding the law", you seem to forget that "justice" equates to a fair trial and the law demands a fair trial.

Because we demand the same of the right that we demand of ourselves: consistency, rational thought and logic. We know we will never get it from MAGAs, but we reserve the right to point it out every time strictly for comedic purposes.

And, right now, MAGAs are the "low hanging fruit" for this objective. As SNL and the late night comedy and streaming comedy shows demonstrate.

Wade and Willis lied, under oath. Willis tampered with a witness. They filed bogus charges that had to be dismissed.

Look, the ONLY reason McAfee didn't DQ Willis and her entire office, is because he's up for election and doesn't want to lose.

Fannie got her Fannie handed to her. But, she lives to misuse the courts tomorrow. There look to be a lot of options for the leadership in GA. Anything from the gov ending the case to unseating Fannie, and appointing someone else, to doing nothing.

No question it was an error in judgement for Fani to put Wade on the case. But only from the standpoint of public perception, not the fairness of the prosecution. All the entire episode does is give Don and his minions something else to whine about.

Agreed, and, it's the cover up and obstruction that's the cliff. Ironic, that in most of the impeachments and cases (The Documents case) against Crooked Donnie, he did the same. Full circle and the luck of the Devil, unbelievable but, the big picture, the justice system is still geared to the accused (innocent until proven guilty) but money really helps.

See what I mean, @Darthcervantes ? Already MAGAs are providing material to comedy scriptwriters to make fun of them when they flip-flop every time a judge does something they like vs something they don't. How can we pass up the opportunity to do the same here?

exactly. this is the two-tier justice system we keep hearing about. Elitists like Trump gets treated differently than the rest of us. Most of us would be in prison by now with all the stuff he's done.
