Well to your points, I agree that block granting is a long term benefit and more to the point, getting a handle on entitlements is something that will have to be done eventually, either voluntarily, or through a financial crisis. But Medicaid reform really had nothing to do with getting rid of Obamacare. Medicaid existed prior to Obamacare and isn't related to it. The only part of Obamacare that is Medicaid related is the expansion, and just letting the 14 and a half million people on the expansion keep their plans is a small price to pay to IF you really want to "repeal and replace" Obamacare.

So that's why it's hard for me to believe that the GOP leadership really wanted to do anything about Obamacare. I think they got what they really wanted, a failure.

That's plausible I suppose, but to pull that off they are assuming that the base that voted them into office is going to forgive and forget in 2018.

Obama care is a Democrat program. If the Republicans voted to replace Obama Care they actually would have to expand Medicaid and keep all the rest of Obama Care except a couple items. The net result would be that we would now have Trump Care which would fail in a couple years also. Either way we have a health care system slated for doom. I don't see were the Democrats have anyone to blame except themselves, we did as they wished and kept Obama Care in place. The Democrats had the opportunity to vote with the Republicans and save the failing system, at least for a while. So enjoy your failing health care system while you have it. It's time to move onto other things more important.

Step 1: Defund the GOP. NOT ANOTHER CENT.
Step 2: Vote only for committed conservatives. The lesser of two evils looks like Trump and is still very effing evil.
Step 3: Don't sweat Dem wins. It will eventually collapse like Venezuela. Rebuild then. They need to be taught the lesson.

The ACA hasn't hurt job Growth. All the Rhetoric about it hurting job growth is Bull.

Unemployment is at Lowest levels since 2001.

President Obama created 10.3 million jobs. Trump 600,000. Dow is at record highs. The ACA has been in effect !

All the Major Industrialized nations have healthcare for its citizens. Most economies are doing very well.

Specifically Australia who Trump praises its healthcare system has going one of its Longest economic cycles.

Hopefully we'll join the rest of the world in making sure our citizens are taken care of and not the rich.........

So come up with another reason we should turn our back on the poor, young and elderly.......... Shame

Maybe Republicans and other supporters of repeal should be articulating that case instead of throwing darts and making garbage accusations like this one below...
All this anger and hate that got Trump elected is turning on itself. The new tone he and his supporters have brought to politics is nauseating, yet you guys just don't stop.

Was Susan Collins elected by the base? The ones up in 2018 who relied on the base likely voted yes....

Actually gdp growth did exceed 2% per annum but never exceeded 3%. Obamanomics is the first 8 year Presidency to never have a year above 3%.

Susan Collins promised her voters that she would act to repeal and replace ObamaCare and voted to do so when it didn't matter. She cares more about her selfish interests than the good of the country.

The irony is that ObamaCare is in reality an expansion of Medicaid to the 400% over poverty level. The other irony is that block granting could allow respective states to provide catastrophic insurance with state funded HSA's which would result in those in the Medicaid program having access to any doctor they wanted for routine medical matters but with coverage for very serious health issues. Today's Medicaid participants have very little physician choice, long waiting room times, and substandard care. Block granting "Medicaid" is good for everyone.

When's she up for reelection? Leadership likely decided she's safe even with a no vote. This stuff definitely happens.

But getting rid of ObamaCare and block granting Medicaid would result in increased economic growth and less people needing Medicaid. Part of the reason Medicaid expanded so much (which was not predicted or used as a selling point for ObamaCare) is the pathetic economic performance of the Obama Presidency. Ironically ObamaCare was in part a reason for the pathetic economic performance and expansion of Medicaid.

And that bring's up the point that so much more could be done for the good of the country if the goal of most politicians was primarily to get elected and to say anything which will enhance that possibility. Leadership protecting her ??

I totally disagree. Three compassionate Republicans out of 52 in the Senate, voted to keep access to healthcare for 20 million Americans. I applaud them.

I agree. Sometimes we are on the same page. The Establishment Republicans are just hacks. To further my opinion they are nearly as bad as the Democrats and not worthy of support.

Recent history shows that you can't get rid of a long time establishment person without a plausible replacement. Collins isn't in danger because her moderation more closely matches her constituency. But a Lindsey Graham hasn't been safe for years, but he's successfully played the multiple opponents strategy to ensure he's the last man standing. That's a pretty common Republican tactic in primaries.

On the other hand, Dave Bratt beat Eric Cantor, the House Majority leader, in the primaries. But you have to have someone like Bratt and there are not a lot of highly qualified candidates like him.

Using the previous CBO estimate accuracy that would be ~ 10 million people which were those who elected not to purchase health insurance previous to ObamaCare forcing them to. Those people paid their own medical expenses out of pocket (and received significant discounts from providers for doing so).

Those three R's selfishly put their own welfare above that of the American people.

It will happen. It has to happen. Those not on board will be voted out of office as ObamaCare implodes. The actions of those who allowed the damages of ObamaCare to be prolonged will be voted out. The gov of WV just switched from D to R stating that he could not help the people of WV as a D. My question is why is Joe Manchin still in the D party ?? Stay tuned.

Those three R's put their own constituents on Medicaid, who would have lost that coverage above the demands of their party leadership. I continue to applaud them. Obamacare forced people to buy health insurance so the numbers of buyers would be large enough to drive costs down for everyone, and it did for awhile. There were problems with it that were planned to show up later, but hopes were they would be reconciled before causing stress in the market. R's refusal to deal with those problems allowed them to hit the public. It would still be far easier to fix Obamacare than to go back to ground zero and start over, not knowing what you'd end up with afterward.

Getting rid of ObamaCare will result in stronger economic growth and fewer people on Medicaid. Those three R's and all of the D's are too dense to figure that out. You applaud actions detrimental to the economic prosperity and health of the American people.

The ObamaCare model of creating a heavily mandated and consequently very expensive coverage package and forcing people to buy it is fundamentally flawed. There is no fixing it. The plan was for ObamaCare to fail as you pointed out and single payer (even a worse disaster) would be voted through. The only problem is that the D's have lost over 1000 governance seats at the state and federal level (including the gov of WV who just switched from D to R claiming he could not help the people of WV as a D) due in part to ObamaCare. 85% of Americans were happy with their health insurance before ObamaCare - the R reforms address the problems with the remaining 15%. There is no fixing ObamaCare - there is only throwing more taxpayer money at it. The R's are not responsible for the failure of ObamaCare and to suggest that bailing it out until next time is a solution is intellectually dishonest.

The main R reforms are block granting Medicaid to the states, buying across state lines, tort reform, addressing the preexisting conditions problem, correcting the taxation discrepancy between employer provided insurance and individual market, and price transparency. Let the market decide what policies the health insurance consumers desire and are willing to pay for.

Perhaps I'm older than you, but I remember what it was like before the Affordable Care Act. All your talk won't convince me that returning to that state of affairs would be better than Obamacare. Yes, Obamacare has problems, but they're fixable. I vote we fix them. Furthermore, I want a national healthcare system that 1) covers everyone; 2) covers pre-existing conditions; 3) stays in effect during periods of unemployment; 4) doesn't have spending caps per individual; and 5) include a public option for those who want it, while continuing to offer private insurance coverage for those who prefer that and can afford it. I agree with Bernie Sanders that health care should be a right, not a privilege.
