You are dealing with two separate issues. Illiteracy is an eduational problem, not a business problem. Second, when applying for a job, businesses usually want people who can handle the job. If that job does not require being literate, then there should be no reason to have a literacy test for said job. The only reason why a test would be impleemented is not to get literate individuals to perform the job. It is an unneccessary burden to be placed on the job just as i gave about running a mile in less than four minutes.

You are confusing the requirments for a job to a general educational benefit. For some jobs, being literate is not a requirement. These jobs include most manual labor jobs or entry level data entry jbos. For management positions, it may require you to know the company specific forms that need to be filled out or the proceedures, processes, and directives that must be adhered to. In those management positions, being lliterate is assumed, not required. Thus in some management postions, especially for manual labor jobs, a good strong voice is primarily required, not being literate. But there are jobs that do require literacy and is part of the job. Usually is includeds phrases such as "be able to commuinicate effiectively and efficinetly, oral or written." CPA and most professional careers in science, education, or math positions require being literate.

But hwen it comes to athletes, the first question is "can you play?" not "can you read or write.?"
