I don't understand why people are blaming the DOJ for politicizing this? They seem to be supporting a ruling made by a very conservative supreme court. I would think there would be greater argument if they decided differently from the supreme court.

I do remember a certain candidate for President campaigning around the country leading screaming idiots in chants of...Lock her up! Lock her up!......Is that what you are talking about?

Yes, that's what the left should be doing. They should be expressing their opinion while letting law enforcement do their job.

A law enacted in 1924 authorizes Congress to request anyone’s tax return information and provides that the secretary of the Treasury “shall furnish” the information requested.

    No, it's not that way.

Mussolini and Hitler went about establishing fascism in Italy and Germany in much the same way: they contested the results of the elections, claimed that there had been fraud, led their supporters to storm parliament and depose the democratically elected government.

Doesn't that remind you of something?

Right. It’s not even remotely close to passing the smell test. Pure BS politics.

Lol, you’re wrong. This issue came up already when he was President. It’s not going to happen legally.

Congress is not in the executive branch. That’s the IRS’s domain.

Who's you guys? I don't follow. Regardless, I don't think one can deny the partisanship in all of this. During Trump or after. Political appointees are just that, political. You also can't deny that the voting public knew Trump didn't release his tax returns when they voted for president in 2016 and 2020. It's all history now, it's in the past. But it seems some can't let the past go and move on to today and the future.

    Nope

    Here is reality

"The committee sued for the records under a federal law that says the Internal Revenue Service “shall furnish” the returns of any taxpayer to a handful of top lawmakers. The committee said it needed Trump’s taxes for an investigation into whether he complied with tax law."
    https://apnews.com/article/business...rsonal-taxes-084bbd2d289d3a8874246e10abecae35

That is NOT the role of Congress that is the role of the IRS or federal prosecutors and the IRS and DOJ as far as we know have never made a determination he did not comply with tax law or any disputes were settled.

How much partisanship is involved here anyone can argue. While Trump's effectiveness is still to be determined, he is most certainly behind the scenes being a political director. That said, please note, Trump to say the least irked a number of well known and even DC intra well liked politicians due to his uncanny temperament.

This is Trump's bed, he made it.

They can get them for legislative purposes and I just showed you this is NOT about legislative purposes, the Congressional Democrats want to play IRS agents for partisan political purposes and as expected you support it.

Trump is no longer the President, and he never will be again.

Our country has serious issues the Congress should deal with instead of wasting our time and money on this.

If Trump committed a crime, have the IRS make a case against him. They are the experts at that.
