Why do you think a silly book making outlandish claims is more accurate than what's taught in school?

Anyway, I've been reading through The Complete Chronicles of Conan by Robert E. Howard.

    You've got to read:
    Foundation and Empire
    Second Foundation
    Foundation and Robots
    Foundation and Earth
    Foundation's Edge
    Prelude to Foundation
    Forward the Foundation

The trick is to sort them by date of publication so you can keep up with the thread.

I think I've read every single book and short story he ever wrote and found him to be brilliantly entertaining. Started when I was a kid in 1st or second grade - along with Heinlein and others.

    Enjoy!

Just finished reading Boris Pasternak's masterpiece Doctor Zhivago. I can honestly say it's one of the best books I have ever read.

What amazed me is how different David Lean's wonderful film adaptation differs from Pasternak's novel. In many respects the movie hardly resembles the book.

If you're ever interested in reading this beautiful work of literary art, do yourself a favor and get the translation by Manya Harari and Max Hayward.

Currently reading "The Science of Interstellar" by Kip Throne.

Great book for those interested in Astrophysics or Astronomy in general. It's one of those books that has a hard time being marketable because although much of it is written in laments terms for the casual reader it can still be a bit confusing to those brand new to Astrophysics. But since its written in laments terms for the general audience it will bore those who already have a solid foundation in Astrophysics.

I recommend it though if you have any interest in Astronomy. It tends to answer many of those questions that the general public has about Astronomy in regards to when Astronomers say things like "This star is 700 light years away and has a mass of 10x that of our Sun and has a planet orbiting at 30 million miles from it once every .03 Earth days" and you are sitting there wondering "how the hell do they know that?" The book explains how they know things like that for those who don't already know.

I always have a few books going at once. The nonfiction books I'm currently reading are:

Basic Economics the Fifth Edition: By Thomas Sowell.

The God of the Machine: By Isabel Paterson

The Conquest of Poverty: By Henry Hazlitt

My fictional reading at the moment is Black Coffee: By Agatha Christie. Which is a Hercule Poirot story adapted from a play of the same name.

I've learned that politicians back then, were just as self centered and egotistical as the ones we have now. And as I read each one, they tend to contradict each other on some key issues. I'm now into James Monroe. Monroe's author likes to suggest that Monroe acted as president for the last two years of Madison's term. Yet Madison's author makes no mention on Monroe's activities during that time.

What I have learned is that we are at the mercy of what the author wishes to convey. That bothers me, as I wonder if what I am reading is true.

and as I read each one, up to this point, I wish they would have left the continent and given the land back to the natives. They were far more civilized than the Europeans.

Men At War, introduced by Ernest Hemingway.

A tome of stories written by the soldiers and generals who were in the thick of some of the most iconic battles and wars throughout history.
