The few Christians who oppose rock music don't understand rock music, and it scares them.

I personally have never run into a Christian who is morally opposed to rock music.

When I played in bands, I always said "If it ain't on ten, you'd better listen again".

Which is true. My music is loud whether it be Tool or The Ventures.

There isn't anything particularly loud about rock music.

It is all in the volume knob.

I have a noticable hearing loss in my right ear from when a Remington 590 fired out of battery.

Das ear rang for five days.

Lesson learned, wear earplugs when shooting semi-automatic .22's. lol

Sort of. I waiver on using ear plugs with bolt/lever/pump actions because the bolt closure is positive. The issue with all semi-automatic .22's (that I am aware of) is that they are straight blowback and do not have a locking bolt. Meaning they are fire out of battery much easier than the types I mentioned above.

The Remington 590 I had fired out of battery with about .25" of the case hanging out of the chamber. It was pretty damn loud and blew the extractor and such out... fun stuff. <_<

I think it has to do with the whole culture of "sex drugs and rock and roll" that many Christians don't like it.

Rock music was new, and new = evil.

Christians were pitching fits about Led Zeplin and Black Sabbath... when the music of today (Lamb of God, Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin, etc) are sooooo far removed and insane compared to the Montly Crews of musical history.

Dancing is viewed as a prelude to intercourse in the eyes of southern baptists.

Why do southern baptists view dancing as a sexual thing? I don't get that. Dancing is just having fun listening to music. There's nothing inheritly sexual about it.

Do you think that led zeppelin and black sabbath were satanic bands?

I don't think Led was, but I haven't listened to much Black Sabbath, so I wouldn't know.

Many of the southern baptists do not even like drums in music because it is satanic.

I don't think most Christians have a problem with Christian Rock. As far as regular Rock and popular songs of the 60's, 70's and 80's...I love it. One of my favorites....is Imagine by John Lennon---beautiful tune. Just need to ignore the meaning and remember that a talented very rich guy who didn't give away his stuff in the name of equality wrote it. It can't be that serious :)

Some Rock is heavy on sexual immorality. And some isn't. Eric Claptons "Wonderful Tonight", "Tears In Heaven"---certainly are something I'd love my children to hear. And then....some things I love....I'd rather they didn't. Much the same with Rap--which often promotes murder, violence, gang values, cheapens women by calling them b#t@ches .

I think targeting Christians as against rock is a non-issue. All parents should be concerned about what their children are listening too.

And Hymns are beautiful by the way. I love them too.

I don't either were. Black Sabath just portrayed themselves that way...as a way to show how anti-establishment they were...its how Metal music originally postioned themselves from mainstream Rock.

Of course, anything Chri$tians don't like, is Satanic.

it's possible we have very different ideas of what constitutes unorthodox. while I do have a small but well established soft spot for Metallica, your list was all mainstream 'dumbed down metal' bands.

meanwhile, I'm sure I don't know what you mean about being past it at 45. I'm the same age, and there's plenty of wild left in the tank.

Lifehouse is a great group though there seems to be some dispute on whether or not they are a Christian Rock band

I'll elect to believe you're joking about clapton, and choose to believe that when you say 70's and 80's you mean The Smiths, The Jam, New Order, Kraftwork, etc.

But I agree, all parents should be concerned about what their children are listening too. For example, some kids don't even know the difference between a Chopin Etude and a Mozart Piano Concerto. And yet some others have never listened to really good post millennial electronic music (early Chemical Brothers, etc), or good reggae, or lush 60's garage rock, or great folk music, or even purist bluegrass! Some poor kids are never properly introduced to the vast and varied world of music and music history at ALL. Imagine that!

If Led Zeppelin wasn't satanic, then how else do you explain this quote?

    And Black Sabbath?

impotent, is what springs to mind when I have the misfortune to hear xian 'rock'. or as my kids call it ... mock rock.

your taking these quotes seriously is precisely the reaction they were aiming for. it was all about the PR.
