http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog...g-white-house-discovery-unemployment-creates/ So now we have the white house telling the people what those on Unemployment are going to do with their money. So basically the more we give out in unemployment, the better the jobs picture gets? This from the smartest potus we ever had? Go back to Harvard, you need a few more classes.
You cant pay people not to work... You cant allow illegals into the country when we have unemployment at 9.4%. You cant spend a trillion dollars to create "Shovel Ready" jobs, that never get created.... Its just more lies from the left handed....
That is a very creative conclusion ot have drawn form that article. I did not see anything that could be construed as the "government telling people what to do with their unemployment money".
What I said was, we have the administration, telling us, what people on unemployment are spending their money on.
A business friendly environment (which is balanced with the need to protect the environment) along with a very well educated population is what creates jobs and employs people. That being said, we still need to tax the personal incomes of the super wealthy more while keeping very low taxes for corporations (which helps to create a business friendly environment). Unemployment checks are simply a short term solution, but without having the best educational system in the world (both public schools and universities) and without a business friendly environment, unemployment checks won't solve any of our economic problems and will simply create dependence on the government.
In other news from the Whitehouse... Men can have children The sky is purple and Hairspray was a good movie.
Jay Carney explained Thursday that paying out unemployment checks “is one of the most direct ways to infuse money directly into the economy because people who are unemployed and obviously aren't running a paycheck are going to spend the money that they get. They're not going to save it, they're going to spend it.” Funny how it doesn't seem like such a difficult concept to understand...
Taking water out of the deep end of the pool, paring off a few gallons for government bureaucracy and interest on debt, then pouring it into the shallow end.... will not cause the water level to rise.
So according to Harvard increasing subsistence contributes to the economy, and resistence is futile? By taking money out of the pocket of the guy that is about to get laid off, that they might otherwise save for a rainy day, and then turning around and giving it to that same guy that just got laid off they will spend it now on subsistence, and jobs are created. The Obamanation is a superconducting sucking tube coming out of the pocket so the money can fly around with amazing cyclone technology for a while and then come back for direct infusion into the economy without any loss of suction.
Actually, that is not what you said. Slightly different. Now, even using a cursory bit of logic and critical thinking, one could reasonably conclude that folks spending money is going to create more jobs than folks not spending money.
No, probably could have phrased it better, but its the same thing. Critical thinking would show that people not on unemployment, but working is going to create more jobs, period.
Indeed. I am not sure of what your point is here. Obviously working folks would seemingly make more than nonworking folks, and logically they would spend more. Is this a stating the blatantly obvious contest here?
No, what this story shows is that Obama believe that people on unemployment help create jobs. which is actual stupidity.
Is it? I would say people unemployed and receiving unemployment money are going to spend more than those unemployed and not receiving unemployment money, which is the obvious point of Carney's statement.
My god, then all we need is even more people unemployed and receiving cash for not working and our problems will be solved. People promoting insanity, like selling snake oil, for their own benefit is understandable. Despicable but understandable. What I don't understand is people who keep buying the snake oil year after year. Even the Enron shill, Paul Krugman, acknolwedged that unemployment benefits stop people from looking for work for the duration of the benefits. What other way can we infuse money into the ecomomy. Quit taking it? How about, quit threatening to take it so people will spend it? How about quit lying to people and saying only the rich will pay? Sure, they'll pay most but we'll all pay, even those who get a free ride now.
The problem is that you pick out and focus on the simple statement instead of arguing the larger macro economical effect of unemployment which was the basis for the statement.
It may help as the people who are not working have income to buy things as the article states, however it does not create new jobs.
Most of the folks I know who are on unemp (and believe me, I know a bunch)... spend their money at the beer store, with a few providing a healthy income for their local drug dealer. Yeah, buddy... they all hope their unemp checks are extended. Who wouldn't?
Of course they do. Because nothing supports a failed argument like unprovable anecdotal evidence. Bravo SMW.
Yeah, umm...how is extending unemployment benefits going to motivate people to get OFF unemployment? It's not.
Why else would a presidential press secretary say things like this! Maybe next he can visit places where people aren't sick to talk about his great healthcare plan!
