Social security is paid into by those who work and pay into the system. Its not the same as what you took home because you aren't paid based on what you earned in your job, but as to what you contributed to SS.
Nope, its nothing like unemployment insurance. Companies pay into unemployment also. Its a totally different system.
You know when they say every month that "x" amount of people dropped out of the work force or stopped looking for work? those people.
Oh God. try to keep up please. only a few things can happen they give up looking they retire they go find a job how long do you think unemployment should go on for people who are on it?
But you would agree that it in theory that could have a negative effect on employment numbers? There are not enough McDonalds and jobs of the like to employ everyone. Some of those people are not going to have any income at all. Just saw a report where there are applicants with Masters degrees applying McDonalds. Job market is tight in all sectors. Why cut a stimulus that actually may have a beneficial stabilizing effect?
Didn't Nancy say something similar a while back? For what its worth, BO seeks to distract from his incompetence again by trying to butter up the masses. He can't afford an angry mob as we get closer to 2012.
There are worse things that can happen, actually. They can become homeless. They could become criminals borne from desperation and not psychopathy. Or they may even commit suicide. Unemployment benefits undoubtedly do help those that need it, but in today's society, it has become rather easy to become dependent on it. The individual may either be just plain lazy or he may be unfortunate enough to be unable to find sufficient employment within a reasonable time period (ie, the current unemployment benefit period or less).
And how often does that happen? how many people are dying in the streets? there are hundreds of charities out there. what about family members? there are plenty of things to do to make it in the world. If need be, work 3 jobs that pay minimum wage. Its time for people to take responsibility and get things done.
Extending unemployment keeps people who can't find jobs from winding up in the streets. Our nation can do no less for people in these times.
i dont like your posts and view of most issues, you usually take an absurd stance and defend it with even more absurd commentary... but i do agree with you on this one.
That is true, if it remains a temporary solution. As it stands, its just distracting from the real problem, and that is lack of jobs, well paying, permanent jobs. Clinton, GW and now BO are incapable of keeping our jobs here, are incapable of either staying completely out of the market, or establishing an atmosphere suitable for job creation. Instead, its a symptomatic approach, bandaging long enough to make it someone else's (worsening) problem. We don't need more handouts, we need jobs, jobs to instill a sense of self worth and purpose, creating enough revenue to make due for those who can't work, take care of those who can't take care of themselves.
Of course,it does the opposite, cant they figure that out? What a bunch of numb skulls...Dont they read the Times? HAHAHAHAAHAHAH
There are jobs. We have 20 million illegal aliens living and working in the United States. Their jobs are more than enough to take care of unemployed Americans.
The tyrants who ruled Athens on behalf of the Spartans tried to outlaw logic. Perhaps the Dems should take a cue from them and outlaw logic when applied to economics.
9.1% unemployment, 16.2% underemployment, gasoline hovering near $4 a gallon and food priced skyrocketing and you think the GOP will lose? The Democrats have one hell of a platform of success to run on.
In a way, having more money in you pocket may make you go out and buy things, hopefully after you fulfilled your obligations, like mortgage/rent, bills groceries, gas. But what is left after that is being used to buy....yes, you guesses it...MADE IN CHINA. We stimulate China so we can borrow more to throw into whatever you want to call this artificial fix. Unless that is stopped/a better solution is found, no matter how much money we throw at the problem, it isn't going away.
