Have you concidered the other possibility that we are so taken by the amazing analysis that you always say the 'Last word " on any subject you care to choose and that your extensive following live in silent awe?

Ignore the last thing I said !:)

 I have always been amazed, on forums, not just this one, at the number of threads I have killed stone dead...which is why I did once think I did too much commonsense..because I had more hindsight than a lot of posters...being a bit older.

But I'm now doing less factual, more opinion and less politeness..I'm even doing real slightly disguised swearies, (I loathe the (*)(*) crap) since my New Year Resolution...so I am trying hard to be controversial...and not a lot has changed re anybody taking any notice.

So it can't be what I post....it must be because few ever read it!

I've never seen you concealing swearies. Except for that time I put a sweary-filter on your own forum and banned your favourite swear words just for entertainment :-D

You don't have to conceal swearies if the forum isn't po-faced and the posters are grown up enough not to use them every second word, but only where there is no other appropriate method of emphasis.

Have to say this place is po-faced to the nth degree...it bans words which stop you talking about a beloved pet cat or donkey or quoting bits out of the Bible...but happily accepts out and out racism, homophobia and every other nasty thing Americans can come up with..and they can come up with a lot of nasty stuff.

Just as well the swear filter here doesn't do non-American spelling swearies, though.

That one of my forums hasn't got a swear filter any more. Why limit my freedom of expression on what is little more than my extensive blog..

You can.......the set up takes a lot of names......so fill your boots!

It would be less likely to have the capacity to take all the anti-Muslims, pro-Zionists and irrational Americans without permanently freezing the place much of the time, though the first two categories would likely include most of the third one.

My own way of seeing this is that anyone who ignores me is so sick I don't want to know them. Whenever you feel paranoid, put a few on ignore: that'll fix 'em! :)

Will that mean we can't see you as well?;-)

Eh...you missed a bit and I think you know which bit (anti-Zionists/pro-Palestinians):p:)

I take your point about some of the racist and offensive threads, but freedom of speech and all that. Though I'm not overkeen on cursing tbh. It attracts a big load of nutters and is often used to insult, which doesn't add much.

I put them on ignore and then leave them on if I don't 'miss' them...or don't get curious when I see their name and that little 'this person is on your ignore' thingie..

why waste time? Life is too short to allow people into your life that don't add anything but irritation.

I don't have anyone on ignore. What's the point of coming to a forum like this to simply ignore people?

But I'm tempted to ignore some of the more crazy posters. Every once and a while we'll see someone come in and start a thread about some conspiracy theory or something that is hardcore racist or antisemitic. That sort of stuff is just toxic. A good rule of thumb is to just avoid any thread with the words Israel, Palestine, Jews, One Word Government, or Blacks in the title.

This is eminently sensible advice. I wonder why I can't follow it. The sight of any of those words in a thread title is a red rag to a bull :-D

The thing is that some political activists/internet warriors inflame with the intent of reporting reactions to achieve censorship so that their favored political entity won't be criticized. Thus, some attempt to use the ignore feature to resist such efforts.

It is best to express opposition against such behavior to discourage its practice. Opposing such extremism may result in the extremist getting banned or the extremist ignoring you since they get upset when their extremism is logically criticized. Many extremists have publically stated that they ignore me since they are terribly upset with my criticism of their racism and since their political activism has failed in censoring my critic.

Israel, Palestine and Jews is one of the most fascinating and controversial political topics due to the nature of the political activism. Ignoring such can result in one sticking one's head in the sand or allowing racism to be expressed unchallenged to feed the violence. The violence in the middle east relies heavily on one's silence on its practice.
