Why are people who describe themselves as "Progressives" in favor of Hamas and Iran?

Why are people who describe themselves as "Progressives" or "Liberals" in favor of Hamas and Iran? It would seem, based on posts that they noisily advocate for "Palestine" and/or against Israel have no actual progressive or liberal values. What are their positions on:

1. Women's rights?
2. Gay rights?
3. GLBTQIA+ rights?
4. Rape?
5. Torture?

What makes the above "progressive?"

 

Very very few people — including progressives — support hamas. Instead what is supported is that the people of Palestine should be able to not be at risk of being killed by Israel, they should be able to have their own home and own state while not having their airspace closed by an aggressive nation.

Both nations deserve to exist but one of those nations is effectively bombing the other to an extent not seen in other conflicts.

So a terrorist organization shot killed Israel’s which was a travesty so now Israel gets to unilaterally bomb the entire state that they have kept under military control for years until Gaza is wiped off the map?

what seems absurd to me is you put a "SO" in front of your sentence which to me implies "SO WHAT YO? Terrorists be terrorizing" and then want me to cry for the people that put them in power? Where was the outrage over the October 7th victims? There's only one way for them to prevent many more October 7ths and we both know it ain't pretty

Nope, so its a good thing Israel is not hunting citizens. Casualties of war happen. Do you think the rules of engagement should apply when one side has no respect for them? Do you think the rules of engagement apply when its VS a nation that think your kind should be wiped off the earth (not just the land that they want)? different rules apply here IMO. Its always sad to have casualties of war. I think they should have thought of that before October 7th (I know i know, not a big deal, just terrorists terrorizing) but to many, it is a very big deal. IDF is not purposely hunting civilians. They also don't rape them and parade their dead body around while citizens cheer with glee. Its hard to find my tears but don't worry, i'm sure i'll find them. Don't forget to find yours for the october 7th victims. I'm not sure "SO?" will cut it

Progressives in America seem to base their policies on whatever they think would piss off republicans. Didn't you see the thread with progressives here supporting illegal aliens possessing guns and rifles? Many progressives basically support Muslim faith and ideals because they think its a "F U" to republicans who they view as Christians. Trying to explain to many progressives that Muslim countries don't support their progressive ideology is like trying to explain the science of a turbine engine to a group of 1st graders.

It’s not a free for all. Hamas is a terrorist organization, we expect them to be terrorists. If we could wipe them out the world would cheer but the way of doing that isn’t the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians.

Israel has one of the most advanced militaries on the face of the earth and they are using unguided missiles to bomb areas known to contain large civilian populations.

Are they any better than terrorists doing that?

I think there are some progressives who are short sighted on this issue and don't understand the role the Palestinian people have played in what has transpired. Hamas could not exist there without the support of those people. Now, I get why some turn to organizations like Hamas given the situation they live in. I get it, I do. But that's just bringing more violence down. And I get why those in Israel do the same thing. it's all tit-for-tat responses to past actions, a long chain of back and forth killing. And it's never going to end because those in power on both sides want this conflict. It enriches their power. Hamas doesn't give a **** about Palestinian civilians any more than Israel does. And muslims importing themselves into the conflict who have no local ties at all surely don't either.

There are no good guys in this conflict.
