in canada a majority want to be rid of the foreign royalty and replace it with an elected head of state...royalist butt lickers only have support of 15% of the population...

 

Excuse me but a matter went before the Queens privy Council the other week ,and if you think no political role of the Queen still exists ,why then does every PM ,go and have a chat every week ?

The Queen is NOT the privy council. The privy council is made up of the most senior members of both houses and acts as a final court of appeal on certain issues. the Queen has no input.

I suppose you think that reffering to the House of lords as 'timelords' is somehow funny? If you don;t know what its about then I sugegst you read a little before coming back -preferably enough to be able to say what 'its about' right now rather than commenting an what it used to be.

You are out of your mind if you actually believe that the modern UK populace would ever even entertain the idea that they should be ruled over by a "bunch of Germans" who speak no English, ever again.

No, the governor general is not the "only" one who has the power to dissolve an Australian government. The Head of State also has that power, which you know perfectly well.

Of course it's unlikely that a GG or the Queen would ever use their reserve powers to do something so absolutely ridiculous and undemocratic, because they would become instantly irrelevant, but they certainly have the power to.

It's also completely stupid and ridiculous to suggest that just because a system is working okay at the moment, that it doesn't have significant flaws, or should never be reformed.

Australia will be a Republic, it will just take time for us to figure out exactly how our republic should function.

 

as will canada, if we can ever figure out how to untangle our bureaucratic nightmare we call a Constitution...although a republic is not necessarily what we will end up with...our system works somewhat but it's evolving into a undemocratic hybrid system, Westminster with a presidential system overlaid on top...elect our own head of state, proportional representation system and abolish the unelected/unaccountable senate and we'd be good to go...

So what if it isn;t democratic. Democratic heads of state gave the USA Bush and Obama- an warmongering Idiot and an incompetent Liar. We have a democratically elected house of commons which is sovereign. Why on earth would we need our head of state to be elected?
