Nope they are not additive. You cannot ask both questions and then add the results. You can ask is there a gun in the house or you can ask if you own a gun but you cannot ask both snd then add.

DGUs happen because our society has many robbers, rapists, and muderers. Economic and other social issues explain this.
Most DGUs happen when peaceful families are at home minding their own business, or they are hard at work in their place of business.

Nonsense. Comparing asking at the door and polling is just proof of how desperate you are to deny actual evidence. Polling works, it is science, and all your ignorance isn't going to change that fact.

And if a total stranger came to the door to ask if I had a gun I would of course doubting his motives say yes so your point actually only proves that perhaps the percentage of households with guns is over estimated by polling.

Check the methodology of the GSS poll. It is the one with the largest sample size and is the one most frequently touted by anti gunners.

"The survey is conducted face-to-face with an in-person interviews." By NORC

It is also conducted in person. Pew and Gallup are conducted by phone.
I'm surprised you don't know this since you argue like you know what you're talking about.

Use you common sense, you know the theft and safety risks of disclosing you gun information to people you know.especially if they're standing on your porch.[/QUOTE]

Hilarious . Given your paranoia you would of course say you had guns. Knock, knock, I am a bad guy at you door and want to know if you can defend yourself. Gee no, I am too paranoid to say I have a gun. How silly can you get.

And why do you think conducting the pollin person negates the results. And by the way the Gallup poll supports the GSS poll. Household gun ownership on both polls is way down from the early nineties.

Uh-huh. I notice how the polls predicted a Trump loss.

Pools work fine for fish so long as the water has no chemicals in it.

Well, the Democrats treat guns as were they alligators or poisonous snakes. I suppose Democrats owe this nation them disarming themselves. Actually i argue most crime is committed by democrats and disarming them is a great idea.

Really. Believe it or not both Democrats and independants own guns. It really isn't just the Trump morons that own guns. In fact if you add up the independants and Democrats they actually own more guns than Republicans.

I know what I see with my own eyes and my sample is way way bigger than any poll.
Smart gun owners don't put their family or their guns in jeopardy by disclosing this sensitive information to people the don't know.
Like I told Vegas, feel free to go on any gun forum and start a thread asking gun owners if they would participate in any poll like this. Go ahead, enlighten yourself.

Nobody actually cares about your opinion. It has zero credibility. You have no credentials. You have no science. You got nothing except your poor ego.

Yes it actually is and the fact that you don't understand the science is your problem not anyone elses. But why don't you post a timeline of the poll results leading up to the election which will demonstrate just how much the Russian meddling and the Comey memo changed the results. In fact if you actually bother to do the research you will find the polls immediatly before the voting showed an even race if you take into account the statistical margin of error.

Oh and by the way you do know that Hillary actually won the majority of votes which was predicted by the polls.

The risk is someone could come back at a later time. It's not good practice to disclose your valuables to unknown people. Burglaries happen, in fact gun restrictionists argue that gun safes prevent guns from being stolen. Guns ARE stolen regularly.

IF your Most valuable posessions are guns you are poor indeed. And most guns are not stolen from homes.

I been teaching, conducting paid research and field work, and publishing my work in science for nearly 40 years; I would say I know a bit about science. I also recognize how many polls fail at several points of design (often deliberately), from question design, leading for biased results, sample selection and size, to interpretation. Polling is not scientific, at best it’s an art; and there are a lot of bad, often, dishonest artists out there.

Have I disrespected you? Why do you feel the need to resort to character assassination of someone you don't know? Is that how you typically debate?

Im just here to try to have honest debate and bring my professional expertise to argue my points. The subject of firearms is my livelihood so I feel I have more experience than most, as I spend a great deal of time with gun owners, not only locally, but across the country.

You have no professional expertise when it comes to gun control or statistics or data on crime or gun usage or gun ownership. Personal opinion or anecdotes are not data and have no relevence to the discussion.

And your opinion on polls and polling is just plain wrong. You are probably qualified to discuss types of guns and ammunition and shooting but so far that appears to be the limits of your expertise.

Lots of actual data and evidence has been presented which you cannot counter and choose to ignore in favor of your very limited and select personal opinion. That is of course your prerogative but you should not rxpect others to take it seriously.

And you are not having an honest debate when your choice is to ignore any data or evidence that you cannot refute just because it doesn't agree with your preconcieved notions.

Oh, the irony, coming from someone who thinks a phone poll on gun ownership is any kind of accurate assessment of who has what....
