What? If you can't look after your own kids if the need arises, here's an idea ........... don't have kids. If you chose kids, then you chose the obligations and expenses associated with that. You don't get to opt out when it's convenient.

Why would that be? Are you suggesting that some kids have parents SO profoundly awful, that all of their limited money was spent on irresponsible impulses (fast food, beer, cigs, convenience foods, new clothing, excessive use of utilities, etc etc), instead of a nutritious breakfast for their children?

Asians pinch their kids, rather than paddle them. Same effect, though.

Wrong question. The right question is: how did you go so wrong as a parent that you ended up with a kid who would do something like that?

Thats simple. A belt across his ass for starters then restriction until he convinces me he otherwise and that will take some time.

Kids can go bad even if the parents don't do anything wrong.

No, they can't. "Bad" doesn't happen in a vacuum. Kids are blank slates when it comes to character. They can only know what they know. If you end up with a shitty kid, it means you're a shitty adult. The difference between good parenting and bad parenting isn't in the perfection of the individuals (because no one is perfect), but in the effort made to contain our flaws - lest those flaws impact negatively on our kids.

I managed to raise a child, by myself while working full time, without beating him. There are many ways to get a message across, even to a toddler. He's 48 now, a good man, liked by all who meet him, owns three houses and two cars, all paid for. He's a solid citizen, never been in trouble with the law, treats everyone with respect.

Spankings or any form of physically painful punishment are for lazy, unimaginative parents, in my opinion.

    Oh ffs.

Restrict them to home after school, in their rooms, no computers, no video games, and no TV for whatever length of time seems appropriate given the bad deed. Make them do their homework and when they get bored, they can read a book.

    Nonsense.

I have a great relationship with my kids.

Just as I did with my father.

It's a relationship of respect for authority, but it's a great relationship. And yes, I smacked them on their ass even they misbehaved as children.

But one could not support trump then.
See post 2. For proof. Upset that beating children is no longer allowed.

I am pro-choice too, so we agree on something

as far as child care, one could be able to afford it at birth, but lose their job and no longer be able to afford it

What I meant was, what if school education is the only option for some parents, as opposed to home schooling? @modernpaladin seemed to be implying that home schooling is always an alternative.

Are you under the impression that this thread is not about corporal punishment in SCHOOLS? If so, then you clearly did not read my opening post, or even the thread title!

What if it's perfectly legal in the county?

Does this suggest that private schools should be able to do what they want?

Aren't people restricted from going to whatever school district they want?

If you can't afford kids without paid childcare, and you can't afford paid childcare if one of you loses their job, then you either stay at home and look after them yourself, or don't have kids in the first place. We have to know we will provide for them, not hope we can. Children deserve better than adults relying on the whims of the gods.

Why WOULD it be the only option for some parents? It's legal pretty much everywhere these days.

So think that I'm saying that home school is the only option? I'm not.

You said 'what if school education is the only option for some parents?'.

You then said that home schooling isn't an option for everyone. I asked WHY it isn't an option for anyone who wants it - because it's legal pretty much everywhere except Germany (as far as I'm aware). What other preventions are there, but legal? Any other objection to homeschooling would simply be personal preference, not an actual obstacle. Obstacles are not personal preference - they're external limits beyond our control.

You think that anyone can do anything, no matter what their level of ability is?
