https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/27/politics/hunter-biden-no-pardon-white-house/index.html “White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday offered a decisive “no” when pressed if President Joe Biden might consider pardoning his son, Hunter, over felony gun and tax misdemeanor charges.” This is the way presidents are supposed to act. Not using the office for personal reasons. We know 45 did the opposite. Biden shouldn’t really be praised for taking a pardon off the table. It is ethically the correct thing to do. But it instructive to compare how well he exercises the powers of POTUS compared to the last guy. And is more evidence, if any were needed, how completely unfit for office trump is.
Biden has proven time and again how he has no problem lying so I don't see how you think this carries any weight.
I understand where you are coming from, but I don’t think it’s ok to drop to the level that trump took the presidency. Biden is restoring dignity that was missing for four years.
Brandon’s corruption is beyond question. Be will do what he wants, Dems will support it. This much is certain.
Correct And why would anyone be shocked at a career politician using the govt to benefit his friends/family
This is how MAGA land thinks. Their suspicion that Biden MIGHT do something unethical (despite upfront and very clear statements that he won’t ) are worse than the very real (and very serious) actual illegal activity of Trump.
You don’t have any real illegal activity by Trump. You have allegations, hearsay, motive assignment, and testimony lol.
I call BS. They stonewalked the Hunter investigation, and now they're giving the Liberals a feel good line. Let me tell you the reality, Biden absolutely will pardon his son, just from the simple fact that if you had the power to protect your offspring from incarceration, or any kind of ill will, you would do it. These last eight years have given me a clearer and a more deeper understanding of the human psyche and condition that we all share.
‘Stonewalled’ or ‘slow-walked’…?? Anyway, I’ll take a bet with you…Joe won’t use the pardon provisions to rescue his son…name your bet…
We have indictments. That means a Grand Jury looked at the facts and evidence (not allegations, not hearsay) and decided that there was enough there to charge people with crimes. Guess what you DON'T have as far as Joe Biden is concerned.
You can tell me what YOU would do in that situation, you cannot tell me what I would do in that situation. Neither of us can say what Biden will do in this situation. We do know what Trump did in this situation. (Pardoned, commuted and obstructed)
Lmao! ZERO chance that Joe pardons Hunter...NONE! Even the suggestion (by whomever thought of such a ridiculous thing) is laughable.
In the first place, I actually disagree with the liberal interpretation of the pardon power. Which I think the only reason a Liberal would view the pardon power with the desire to limit it is due to Trump(and in the meantime, Biden to 'show a different example to Trump') but the further and further away we get from these times, the less the Trump years will be used as a barometer. But the Pardon power was bestowed to commune, or partially pardon or fully pardon offenses. To me, it hardly matters if there's a personal or family benefit from using the pardon. I wouldn't blame Biden(see, my reaction) for doing it. In fact, I supported and still support the First Step act, but it's not enough. We can't just release prisoners and inmates, with pretty much nothing. That's how they recommit offenses in the first place. It's important to assure they have a place of work and payment, and decent housing. The basic conditions of human life, in order to successfully start anew. Think of it as vocational training for civilian duty. Something that honestly everyone can support, as it benefits the greatest number of people.
“Is there any possibility that the president would end up pardoning his son?” Fox News reporter Mark Meredith asked Jean-Pierre during her regular briefing. As predictable as 110 degrees in Phoenix in July that it wasn't a legit reporter. Why "Fox News" is still allowed to have people participate in WH briefings is still a mystery to me..
Hey, if Joe can get Hunter off the hook (or "sweetheart deals") by backdoor dealings with the deep state, why would he need to pardon him? I guess if there is a need to pardon, there is no "two tier" justice system? Which one is it? Inquiring minds would like to know. Or, could it be that the RW media will whine about Hunter and Joe, and create their million times repeated catch phrases like the "Biden crime family", no matter what? Because that's all they have while backing their own criminal as the front-runner for the WH?
I'm going to sound quite hypocritical here on multiple accounts of my position, so I'll outline them clearly: Yes, I've called for an Empire in the past and will continue to call for one as a way to unite the citizens of this country. And in line with that, I do believe in a state-ran media that could accurately report the information to the people. But right now, I do not trust this current media apparatus with the ability to report information to the people(though they did obviously release info on Trump's crimes before they were known. That typically isn't done with most criminal cases, and it has been confirmed via Buzzfeed that the McCabe-led FBI was sleeping with reporters.). So that IMO has a part to do with the 'excellent' reporting on that, and i'm not sure I agree with the ethics of how supposed grand jury information has been leaking. All of that to say, if we're going to have one state media it sure as hell isn't going to be with the current media operations. I don't trust them with that power. So give me "fox news" or specifically, give me a competing network that can reliably be a source of information to completely filter out information/news.
That's 2 completely different things... But, I have no problem with multiple "competing networks"....
You're projecting again. Since Republicans are so completely corrupt and dishonest to the core, you can't conceive that their opposition isn't corrupt. Objectively speaking, of course.
If his son looked at actual long term jail time there is zero doubt he would pardon. Instead, there is almost zero chance any significant punishment would be given out that would make it necessary to pardon him.
Incorrect, it’s absolutely a leftist thing. Dems dishonesty is well documented and genuinely affects them, as you say, to the core.
