Yes there were indentured servants and convicts used in the colonies. That is a historic fact. Indentured servants were let go after they completed their "indebtiness". My guess is that the prisoners must have been set free after they completed their sentences. African slaves got live sentences.

The OP was about democrats and republicans in the time of slavery. Naturally when its pointed out the idiocy of such a position, the goal posts moves, for some, to mid 20th century. From slavery to communism, makes perfect sense.

Nice recital of the usual bumperstickers tho.

Among the first documented Africans in British North America were approximately 20 men and women who arrived at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619. They were captives, likely from the kingdom of Ndongo in present-day Angola. Privateers had seized them from a slave ship bound for Mexico

    www.monticello.org/slavery-at-monticello/african-slavery-british-north-america/africans-british-north-america

Directly or indirectly, the economies of all 13 British colonies in North America depended on slavery. By the 1620s, the labor-intensive cultivation of tobacco for European markets was established in Virginia, with white indentured servants performing most of the heavy labor.

Indenture, otherwise known as bonded labour or debt bondage, is a form of unfree labour under which a person pledges himself or herself against a loan.[12] The services required to repay the debt, and their duration, may be undefined.[12] Debt bondage can be passed on from generation to generation, with children required to pay off their progenitors' debt.[12] It is the most widespread form of slavery today.[2] Debt bondage is most prevalent in South Asia.[13]

Chattel slavery, also called traditional slavery, is so named because people are treated as the chattel (personal property) of the owner and are bought and sold as commodities. Typically, under the chattel slave system, slave status was imposed on children of the enslaved at birth.[14] Although it dominated many different societies throughout human history, this form of slavery has been formally abolished and is very rare today. Even when it can be said to survive, it is not upheld by the legal system of any internationally recognized government.[15]

Forced labour, or unfree labour, is sometimes used to refer to when an individual is forced to work against their own will, under threat of violence or other punishment, but the generic term unfree labour is also used to describe chattel slavery, as well as any other situation in which a person is obliged to work against their own will and a person's ability to work productively is under the complete control of another person.[2] This may also include institutions not commonly classified as slavery, such as serfdom, conscription and penal labour. While some unfree labourers, such as serfs, have substantive, de jure legal or traditional rights, they also have no ability to terminate the arrangements under which they work, and are frequently subject to forms of coercion, violence, and restrictions on their activities and movement outside their place of work.

Human trafficking primarily involves womenand children forced into prostitution and is the fastest growing form of forced labour, with Thailand, Cambodia, India, Brazil and Mexicohaving been identified as leading hotspots of commercial sexual exploitation of children.[2][17][18] Examples of sexual slavery, often in military contexts, include detention in "rape camps" or "comfort stations," "comfort women", forced "marriages" to soldiers and other practices involving the treatment of women or men as chattel and, as such, violations of the peremptory norm prohibiting slavery.

    www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery#Types

So what kind of of slavery is, "If you don't finish your work shift, again, you will be terminated from working here?"

    'privileged slavery'

I retain my privileges as long as I meet the guidelines/expectations?

    1 Samuel 8

4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 5And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.7And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 9Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

10And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king. 11And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.12And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. 13And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. 14And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. 15And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. 16And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.17He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

19Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; 20That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. 21And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD. 22And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city."

But they're pretty much the same with 1 having the greater authority over the other.

There us truth that almost all the colonies were involved with slavery in one or another. Ship owners from the North brought in slaves as cargo.
It is like drug providers and drug users. Northern Shippers provided the supply but the Southern plantation owners were the customers or the users.

Adolf Hitler's rise to power began in Germany in September 1919[a] when Hitler joined the political party known as the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei – DAP (German Workers' Party). The name was changed in 1920 to the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei – NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers' Party, commonly known as the Nazi Party).

President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Hitler as Chancellor on 30 January 1933.
    wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler%27s_rise_to_power

In 1934, after the death of President Hindenburg, Adolf Hitler, already Chancellor, assumed the Presidency, but did not usually use the title of President – ostensibly out of respect for Hindenburg – and preferred to rule as Führer und Reichskanzler ("Leader and Reich Chancellor"), highlighting the positions he already held in party and government.

Slavery? Indentured? Chatteled? Forced? They make a difference.

How do you think slaves became 'sellable' to outsiders? How were African men and women who were in Africa 'sold' and why? Even European 'slaves'. How did they become 'sellable' but not any other random persons?

A common thought is that they went in and shackled as many as they could get their hands on, but this is untrue. Many believe it was something like kidnapping, which is more likely not true than true.

Look. I don't know what you thought but if your concern is with slavery in the United States or slavery in colonial america, then the concern has nothing to do with the slaves, republicans, or owner for any matter. The concern might be not addressing the specifics of the letter to the concern which was

'No one in the independent United States of America owned slaves before 1776 for the same reason Republicans did not own slaves before 1860. Neither of those entries existed prior to their birth.'"

    Or

"Dinesh D'Souza pisses off the alt-left once again with his comment that, with the exception of the leaders, no Republicans owned slaves before 1860..."

"Why should that comment piss me off? I love what passes for clever among Republicans. Haha we got you with symantecs. Lol."

"No state of the US had slaves prior to 1776."

Are you a U.S citizen with no ties to Colonial British America?

If you are a U.S citizen, then you should have concern to U.S. residents, even towards those who can trace their lineage back to Colonial British America, right?

    Remember this?

The first link was too long so the cutting part probably didn't get all of it

So what's the deal with colonial British America or The United States. Not too much except for the fact that all signing members of The U.S. Constitution had ties to those colonies in one way or another.

Did the U.S. have a fall out with their past British brothers or did the U.S. have a fall out with Colonial residents?

But today, certain residents in the U.S. are not trying to assist The U.S. but only assisting their own opinions and agendas with faulty history lessons.

They take 1 sentence from the Constitution and apply it to every facet of their life.

From complete disobedience to family and parents to women's child bearing rights.

And if a person stands behind the original 13 states, they get attacked with butcher and hammer and U.S. citizened attitude.

I really hope this doesn't offend anyone but even THE LORD admonishes against leaving the home, or birth place.

    Proverbs 27:8
"As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place."

Even if a person should wander, this proverb still applies to their children, their family members... If a child wanders from the nest, it is as a bird wandering from her nest.

Such a shame they divide the U.S. when they wander away from their place.

Sadly though, is that the U.S. has a reputation of being social and inviting; hospitable. This has been used to their detriment.

Baking pies for new neighbors was one of the hospitable things the U.S. was known for. Nowdays you get a slamming of the door or 'expected ultimatums' for being neighborly.

    Snooty Tooty Goody Fruities.

True white skinned U.S. citizens know what this means. And the reason being they come from a lineage of Christianity, maybe from the days of John Wesley.

John Wesley (28 June [O.S. 17 June] 1703 – 2 March 1791) was an English cleric and theologian who, with his brother Charles and fellow cleric George Whitefield, founded Methodism.

On 14 October 1735, Wesley and his brother Charles sailed on The Simmonds from Gravesend in Kent for Savannah in the Province of Georgia in the American coloniesat the request of James Oglethorpe, who had founded the colony in 1733 on behalf of the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia in America. Oglethorpe wanted Wesley to be the minister of the newly formed Savannah parish, a new town laid out in accordance with the famous Oglethorpe Plan

In 1784, he believed he could not longer wait for the Bishop of London to ordain someone for the American Methodists, who were without the sacraments after the American War of Independence.[59] The Church of England had been disestablished in the United States, where it had been the state church in most of the southern colonies.

Did you know this fact about slavery in America?

Persons with ties to the original 13 States, could one day, be extinct.

Some would throw a feast! Others might cringe. Still others might not have any concern one way or another.

Fair representation.. not opinion or even majority voice. If it was majority voice, this chaos would have stopped long ago.

Even U.S. Muslims support safety to the U.S. AND understand the difference between a Muslim ban and a Travel ban.

'It doesn't matter that you're a Christian, sir. No one is allowed from there, yet. The U.S. has already denied Christians from that place. Please don't think it's an attack to your culture or color or language. Tusahibuk Alsalama. Ashkarak'.

    Yow.

Holy crap on a platypus' fadoodle.

Do you go on for 18 posts and 60,000 words if someone remarks "there was no CSA before 1860" too?

    Man alive. Consider knitting.

So you are saying slavery wasn't such a bad thing. That is your opinion, but some of us feel it is quite the disgusting system of oppression and in the case of american slavery racial oppression.

Either you are really gullible or a bold liar. Since that is obviously a lie. Please do refrain from doing that in the future either way.
As opposed to the alt right solution of continued racism fixing the problem of slavery.
So did we which was not very nice when you read about how we treated our own loyal citizens.
That makes it all ok in your mind.

I don't see any white people working at mar a lago.
I think we can put 9/11 to rest now. Especially those of us who did not lose anyone and who's only hardship was watching the footage on TV. If you personally lost someone I am sorry, but otherwise it has been a decade plus. Please do get over it already.
That is nice of you to say considering you were on the winning side of that particular conflict. (Namely the white side, not the confederate)
Good for you. There is a little difference between a group that immigrated to the US to be a part of it and who suffered through hardship, and those who were pulled from their homes and sold into slavery only to gain their freedom and be considered less than human and have to fight for equality to basic humanity. Just saying.
Yes, but your family did benefit from the systematic racism that existed in the country at the time.

That makes it all ok then right? Well not really but thanks for playing.

    Even Snopes can't deny this.

    https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/facts-about-slavery/

The first legal slave owner in American history was a black tobacco farmer named Anthony Johnson.

South Carolina’s largest Black slave holder in 1860 was a black plantation owner named William Ellison with 63 slaves.

American Indians owned thousands of black slaves.

In 1830 there were 3,775 free black people who owned 12,740 black slaves.

Brutal black-on-black slavery was common in Africa for thousands of years.

Most slaves brought to America from Africa were purchased from black slave owners.
