For the record, no, I wasn't "horned" by the mods. I have no warnings. No infractions. No bannings. Nothing. I abide by the rules. My objection comes when mods clearly say that others are consistently violating the rules, and no action is taken.

I often find the people who complain about "civil", "rational", and "informed" debate are typically no more civil, rational, or informed than the individuals they're complaining about.

People like to think very highly of themselves; very rarely do they engage in critical self-analysis.

Personally I think a lot of the people complaining about who there is to debate with are pretty active in feeding the trolls. If you want a different sort of debate, answer the posts you find difficult instead of the flaimbait someone is hoping you take.

Also don't expect people to ever say something like "You're right, I've been wrong all this time."

I always rep for stuff like that, regardless of who, which side or what argument, just because it is so very very rare but shows a great deal of character in an environment where you can simply ignore what is inconvenient.

I see more of the left calling the right racists, than I see actual racist posts. Is hate mongering okay to you?

Well said. I understand from the mods and site traffic that it's nearly impossible to pro-actively moderate debates, but we cannot get away from the fact that debates are near impossible.

The extreme anti-Americanism of most British posters elicits my in your face response. Cry me a river? You sound like Ella Fitzgerald.

Most right-wing American posters are extremely anti-American, disgracing their country in the face of the world. The dreadful thing is that they don't even know they are doing it.

You have the unmitigated temerity to tell an American what is necessary to be an American! How typically British. How typically arrogant.

Child, the overpowering whiff of arrogance is part of your thuggish American charm. Go urinate on someone you have murdered and be happy: why waste time with thought? It is not your métier.

Never heard of you. You the nutter who hates whole nations and species, or his Grandad swinging on the branch? Nothing to do with me, whatever.

This thread really is case in point for what I wrote earlier.

You've got Albert here, dropping flamebait one liners and getting his posts modded.

But who is getting the most attention in this thread at this point? Bingo.

Again, I think the biggest issue for people feeling like they can't have a "reasonable debate" is that, like you and Iolo here, they chomp down hard on all the flamebait, ignore everything else, get what they've got coming for taking the flamebait, and wonder why they're left feeling trolled.

This probably also causes peope who put the extra effort in to find sources and write out a more reasoned reply more inclined to leave because they don't get so many replies.

Myself, I'm starting to think that if I'm going to bother finding a reference, I should call somebody a Eurofag or whatever so they'll actually read it. But, alas, that just isn't my style.

I do very fully understand what you say, but I don't feel 'trolled' by Albert: his nonsense is fun to kick, as I negotiate reprehension from Above as carefully as I can. I like proper debate too, naturally

Who are you, and why should I care? Are you the nutter who wants to exterminate a million Irish people as a result of muddled memories retailed by drunks?

The Orangemen aren't Irish. They're Scots, English and Welsh. Scum all.

Ah - Now 'Welsh' has appeared to fit your unfocused and illiterate hatred! What 'Welsh', you extremely silly person? The Settlers in the Six Counties came from Scotland, which their Irish ancestors had colonised many generations before. Do look up some history, and stop this nonsense. Incidentally, my family always opposed English imperialism, my country gave a greater majority for Irish Home Rule than did Ireland, and the key Union leader where I lived was in the Citizen Army as a young man. I'm sure I've spent a great deal more time in Ireland than you have, and worked for the Provisionals here when it was a lot easier than ranting in American bars. Grow up, Albert!
