    Source?

I have never seen an iPhone that allows you to install apps that are not from Apple's own store.

LOL, thats ONE (1) Carrier. Among how many that carry Android phones?

Every unlocked iPhone do, that is the point.

You said there wasn't any. You've been proven false.

    LOL!

Dude, the whole point of that is Google cracking down on RESTRICTING people, not the other way around. They are talking about limiting how much crap companies like Samsung, HTC, whatever can cram into their proprietary skins. That article is not talking about locking Android down...it is talking about the exact opposite. Keeping it open for the end user.

Talk about proving my point...which side are you arguing on anyway? LOL

If Apple was forcing vendors to keep the OS open, I would welcome that kind of "Control freak". But it is exactly the opposite. Apple wants to limit what you can do with the phone you bought.

Um...how? You did not provide a source for your claim. My nephew's iTouch did not allow him to install any non-App-store app until he jailbroke it.

The point is Apple's customer service sucks, and they've lost a customer because of it.

I'm liking LG at this point.

Another problem with the iPod is the inability to transfer audio and video from the device to a computer. Thankfully some enterprising entrepreneurs have developed programs to overcome this.

Apple without Steve Jobs will likely fold.

If you have apple products, money very obviously isn't an issue to you. HP, Dell, and Lexmark don't use a new pentalobe screw to keep you from opening their devices. You are comparing apples to rat poison.

I agree. You should never put more money in apples pocket.

You can buy one that is unlocked. For $500 from the apple store with no upgrade discount applicable, so you just have to pay $300 for your unlock. While mine is free.

My phone was unlocked for "sideloading" of apps by an optional update offered through the default interface. There was no danger of bricking my device to unlock it. This update was already applied when I bought the phone from an AT&T store.

So you are saying that unlocking an iPhone is as easy as taping the screen twice on my native OS without hooking it to a computer to get to this page:

Then tapping the check box. It also doesn't void my warranty.

Do you know what unlocked means? Do you know that you still can't load 3rd party apps on an unlocked iphone without jailbreaking it?

His article even talks about AT&T doing that because they are in bed with apple.

You implied apple was selling phones you could load 3rd party apps to. That is false.

iPhone users hoping that the 4s will do some of the cool things android does. They are going to be disappointed.

Cool. Maybe apple won't nosedive without Jobs. Maybe they will. Time will tell.

If you want an i-phone with a larger screen, what do you do?
If you want an i-phone with a built-in keyboard, what do you do?
If you want an i-phone with a faster processor, what to you do?
If you want an i-phone with better speakers, what do you do?
If you want an i-phone that is bright-colored and includes a flashing light on a long cord to let you know it is ringing, what do you do?

There are droids with each of these features - you can buy whichever one meets your needs/wants. With the i-phone you can have any features you want -- as long as those features are the ones included in the only model they sell.

Why can I have the BMW xdrive on my car... oh silly me I bought a Mazda...

What bloody moronic list you just posted there bud...

People buy the iPhone because they want an iPhone, they want access to the software that runs on it and they want it to be totally integrated with the rest of their gear.

Believe it or not, people prefer to use their gear instead of having to tweak and debug different and barely compatible piece of softwares, drivers and hardware.

iPhone, iTunes, Mac... It just work... without any tweaking and debugging.

You don't have to tweak anything with Droid phones... it's completely user-ready right out of the box. Yet, the option to customize is there if you wish to do so. I believe that's the point the member was making.

You have to tweak if you want to sync with your iTunes music collection, for example. You also have to tweak for many other functionnality because the OS and apps on your PC or Mac weren't made to work with Google OS, unlike the iPhone which is made to work with the mac plateform and the win7 phones who are made to work with the Windows plateform.

I have both a iPhone and an Android (2.2) Tablet. I prefer the iPhone integration and syncing.

Um...why? I just drag and drop everything from my PC to my Droid...I dont need any app to do it. I can even copy it directly from my iTunes folder if I want, and my music app will recognize and retain the folder structure.

My nephews have to sync their iTouches and it is always a pain...iTunes is slow and clunky and it does not always work correctly.

Because if you only drag and drop from your itunes collection to the android, you don't get all the metadata that goes with them...

iTunes doesn't use id3 tag. It use it's own database for them.

iTunes for windows is crap. iTunes on the mac is near perfect. Of course, application made for a single target plateform is always better than generic crap that relies on external plugins and codecs to work.

Um...yeah I do. All the MP3s I buy on iTunes have embedded data, including album art.

Even the files I convert to MP3 have meta-data preserved.

If you save files as MP3, it does use id3 tags. If you convert to Mp3, id3 tags are created and the information is imported.

Yes it is. But itunes is not worth buying a Mac IMO, so...

Its only flaw is that it requires you to buy a Mac. I am unwilling to pay for a new computer just to be able to use iTunes better.

This does assume that you actually like i-tunes. If you do, you can get down load one of several apps to sync your i-tunes library, even over wireless. The only loss is the direct connection of the i-phone.

How much tweaking does the i-phone need if you want to run flash?

this is why me and just about everybody else don't buy mac just for itunes, but it's a plus.
personnaly i bought mine because of OSX first, since i prefer to work under a unix os. But since the mac use intel pocessor i can also nativelly run side by side linux and windos apps with full communication between those apps (lookup Parallele Desktop).

and i personally only use lossless encoded rip from my own disc. For me mp3 are worthless.

but we know that flash isn't available on iphone. that is comon knowledge. if we want flash absolutely then we don't buy an iphone.

and flash is on its last leg. it's too cpu intesive and it's being replaced by html5. both appla and microsoft are pushing it.

True, but flash is currently used on a lot of sites, and will continue to be for years as they gradually migrate over to the new standard. Many sites will probably still be using flash in two years when most people are eligible for a new phone.

Regardless, this is my point. If you want flash, you don't want an i-phone. If you want a large screen, you don't want an i-phone. If you want a hardware keyboard, you don't want an i-phone. If you don't like i-tunes, you don't want an i-phone.

I-phones are fine when what it does is exactly what you want. If you want anything different from what apple says you want, you'll have to go with a different phone and OS.

Droid plays FLAC natively. There are tons of free programs out there that will convert your Apple Hi Def files to FLAC so you can make the switch.

I have been to hundreds of concerts where I should have probably been wearing earplugs, but did not. Now, I personally can't tell the difference between a 320 Kbps mp3 and FLAC.

As a matter of fact, most humans can't. It's usually only rich people that have really expensive stereo equipment that like to act like they can tell the difference.
