Oh boy......why aren't gun rights enthusiasts up in arms (excuse the pun) over this?

    http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_18996414?IADID=Search-www.mercurynews.com-www.mercurynews.com

I don't understand this. Medical marijuana is legal in many states as a prescription drug. Are the feds now going to take guns away from all users of prescription drugs? Why is marijuana being singled out?

    Another interesting point:

So if someone lies on the application and is later found out can they go to prison for fraud or perjury?

This is an insane infringement on the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. How come there is no thread here on this before now (or did I miss it)?

What say the good folk of PF.com about this issue?

But if you get wasted at a bar carrying a gun is just fine. Makes a lot of sense. I've never seen a pothead want to kill someone.

Wow denying 2nd amendment rights for the use of a legal substance? Let's see if the NRA really are pro 2nd amendment. They should be screaming bloody murder over this.

Not legal. Still on the the federal Schedule and still a point of inquiry on form 4473.

I know. I'm amazed this story is 3 days old and not a peep from gun-rightists. There should be outrage over this. I mean, the NRA at the least should be sending out fund-raising appeals....

Are you for big government intrusion into state law that was voted on by it's citizens?

Most (including me) had no idea about it. My uncle (much more involved than I am) also had no idea until I told him.

Medical marijuana is still a drug,. Drug users cannot own a gun. That sounds fair to me - or are you Americans happy to have drug users walking around with guns?

Medical marijuana is used to help with pain. What if a patient decides the pain is too great and kills themselves with their gun?

How much longer are Americans going to put up with an illegal government?
The ATF has no legal authority to make or interpret laws.

    Congress creates legislation.
The President Ratifies legislation making it law.
The Courts interpret the law for its practical application.

Those are the divisions of responsibility between the three branches of government.

A government agency does not have the authority to usurp power shared by all three branches of government providing checks and balances to arbitrarilty create, modify or interpret law.

    So stupid.

Then let's ban everyone on aspirin for their hearts... and while we are at it let's ban everyone on Zantac for their stomach.

This is a big liberal authoritarian attack on personal liberties.

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW... and the Executive Branch doesn't even hold standing here.

Indeed. The genesis of form 4473 was rooted in the Kennedy assassinations.

No, you should just ban mentally ill people and drug users from coming anywhere near a firearm.

Prolonged use of Zantac can cause severe anxiety, panic attacks, and other behavioral issues. Your argument also basically puts anyone on any sedative, or psychosomatic drug out as a gun owner.

A guy that puts away a fifth of Jack Daniels a day can own a gun. For that matter, a guy that taks Percoset or Oxycontin every day can own a gun.

Fine by me. That's their decision.

Well... I may want to sometimes but the weed makes me say "but first, where's those Oreos cookies???". By the time I've located them (and after 6 or 7 pieces of supreme pizza), I'm way too sleepy to bother.

Gun Ban for Medical-Marijuana Users Upheld
September 2, 2016 - Gun purchases are off limits in the U.S. to anyone who uses medical marijuana or holds a state-approved medicinal marijuana card, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday, accepting the government's view that illegal-drug users are prone to violence.

This is part of the continuing conflict between state and federal drug regulations. States approve marijuana use and the feds continue to warn that their laws will be enforced. That causes many problems including the fact that most banks won't handle deposits from legal marijuana dispensaries for fear of running afoul of 'proceeds of drugs' money laundering laws.
