I don't think it should be a banable offense, but calling someone racists has lost all of it's validity and usually proves that the accuser is faced with a harsh fact or facts that they are pretending are not true. Also, the word racist is used most of the time to try and beat down an argument without actually have a counter argument... or to try and silence the opposition.

I pay no mind to it anymore.

Calling someone a 'conservative' is 'name calling' if it offends somebody?

    Jeez.

What if calling someone a 'pretty boy' or a 'sweetheart' or a 'nice guy' offended someone?

So I am allowed to say 'every woman is an idiot' or 'every 'black' is inferior to me' even if someone found those extremely offensive?
But I am NOT allowed to call someone a 'liberal' if it offended someone?

No offense, but that is a ridiculous rule you have there.

I say change the rules to allow name calling.

No one is going to die over it, I doubt you will lose any members overall (except the very thinnest of skinned ones) and your job will be much easier (I assume).

I mean we are virtually all adults here.

Name calling is part of life...like it or not.

You never mentioned exactly what you did. How do you expect everyone to know what a 'NOC' is? You never mentioned you were a 'Software Development Director' either. You did, however make a statement that suggested inside knowledge about hacking computer addresses.

I think most everyone knows that the Internet is not really 'secure' and if they don't they are ignorant however, there are laws against stalking and hacking.

In reality it's not because members are never the topic of a thread and shouldn't be referred to in a post.

Anyone that searches my posts will find that I never refer to a member. I don't even use the words "you" or "your" as that is a reference to a member. My posts are never personalized because I've learned to always address the topic and/or the opinions expressed.

Just remember that if a post is not "personalized" then it can never be a "personal attack" which prevents a violation of the Forum Rule prohibiting personal attacks. It might be flamebaiting but that's a different rule. LOL

It was sarcasm used to illustrate what I have observed as a tactic by liberals. They seem to want free speech for themselves, but expect others - with whom they disagree - to shut up. See the link...

That is the problem noted above. Under that rule, if someone writes a post responding to one of our black members and writes "blacks are idiots" that is not considered a personalized attack and so it is allowed. But if you are black how can that possibly not be a personalized attack? Or exchange black with conservative or liberal and get the same result.

We see these kinds of personal attacks happening all the time.

I'm disappointed you used that post as an example. The poster could have easily been referring to the Black girl from a viewpoint on humanity, not race. The White girl just bumped into the Black girl while running. You can tell it was NOT intentional.
The Black girl fell. Then she just immediately got up and started wailing on the White girl - knocked her to the ground and was just beatin' the daylights outta her. Why??? It was not civil, not at all. It was brutal.

Edit: OIC, it was the use of the word "they" that caught your eye. I get that.
And yet, what the girl did - as an individual - was brutal and way over-reactive. She could have been charged with assault, and with it on viddy, a conviction would have been a slam dunk.

Indeed Shiva, but sometimes you must directly address a poster, if your in a debate. Saying something along the lines of "you only hold that position because your conservative or liberal." Even if that person is offended by the terms, that is NOT an insult, in any way shape or form. There would be no way to make such a statement speaking generally and not directly. You could say "only conservatives or liberals hold that position," but it is not the same in context.

    I would re-think your approach.

Start with the definition of "personal" which is "Of or relating to a particular person." If a statement is not relating to a particular person (that is a member of Political Forum) then it cannot be a "personal attack/insult" regardless of whether an individual is insulted by it.

Of course the statement "blacks are idiots" is probably flamebaiting but we'd need to see the context in which it's used.

I would respectfully request that members don't start Reporting posts simply because they might technically be a "personal insult/attack" to prove a point of some kind. We're already flooded with Reports and prefer that serious personal insults/attacks be brought to our attention to deal with as opposed to trivial objections that might be within the technical definition of a personal attack. I'm not saying that they can't be Reported but we can only address a limited number so hopefully the members will point out the more serious ones for us to address by Reporting them.

By way of analogy would it be better for a state partrol officer to write up those breaking the speed limit by 5 mph over the speed limit or those flying by at 40 mph over the speed limit? We can only "write so many tickets" in a day.

Suggesting that racists exist, even that they exist among forum members or any group, isn't any kind of personal attack. It's not directed at a person. Doing as you suggest, calling a specific person a racist is more likely to be interpreted as a personal attack. It seems you're inviting the specific rules violation that you claim to be outraged about.

I've never found that to be the case and how many posts does it say I've made (27,000+). I've always been able to address the opinions expressed and the topic with no need whatsoever to address the member. It simply isn't required and is actually off topic because the member is not the subject of the discussion.

If I can do that with thousand upon thousands of posts then no one can state that it can't be done.

Yes, Trinnity. "They" is the subject of the sentence. The meaning of the post was quite clear.

The subject matter of the rest of the thread is immaterial. Just because an individual from a particular race, ethnicity, country, etc does something there is no reason to slur every single person from that race, ethnicity, country with a derogatory statement like, "they are just animals."

To be honest I don't need multiple crime threads a day featuring black people to know hitting someone during a soccer match is wrong. Obviously the obsessive posting of these threads lends further credence to people's concerns about racism. If you read that entire thread you will notice there is a video of one white male slitting the throat of another white male during a sports match and blood spurting out everywhere. I hardly think one cat fight involving a teenage black female where the victim gets up and keeps playing in any way compares to someone getting their throat slit. But yet what outraged people was the cat fight... okay. What am I suppose to conclude from that?

Free speech is ALWAYS better...no if's, no but's.

Not maybe, not probably...100% for certain.

If this board were pure free speech the mods jobs would be much easier (assuming they want it to be easier - I have seen mods on other boards that LOVED 'modding' just a little too much) and anyone that cannot handle free speech should not even be in society - just shut yourself away every second you can and stay off the internet for fear of someone saying something that may offend you.

Political Correctness - I despise it.

It ALWAYS ends up doing more harm then good.

And is almost always utilized more by cowards then decent people.

Just look at how the cowardly racists on this board hide in here...but 80+% of them do not dare show themselves in real life - guaranteed.

There are other boards where they allow free speech and members go around writing "you're a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing moron" posts back and forth to each other, if that is your preference.

I do not like being called a moron.

But I like even less being denied the free speech of being able to have someone call me a moron.

Why? How could someone even support the assertion that they know why another person believes something? The only thing that statement might accomplish is demonstrating a prejudice, a prejudice that could undermine the credibility of their other arguments.

Kudos. Concise and compelling statement that not only made me pause and think about it, but one I'm likely to think about in future debate. A little awkward on the tail end but a darn good comment.

Fair enough, everyone has their own preference. As I stated, there are boards were you can go and be free to be called a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing moron to your heart's content. PM me if you want a link to one.

Sorry not you. I meant some of the other people that were involved for most of the thread. There was no way for you to have seen the other videos if you didn't read a few pages of the thread.

Anyway, yes hitting people during a sporting match is wrong. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. There are a lot of things that are wrong. I don't post videos about every single wrong thing I see and I don't assume anyone on the forum who doesn't immediately condemn something that is obviously wrong agrees with it.

I personally did not understand why the thread was started. I didn't understand why someone would want the President of all people to comment on a dust up at a teenage girls soccer match and I certainly didn't understand why all black people were condemned as "just animals."

I don't see how calling other forum members morons serves the greater good. Racist is a term that a politician or newscaster can use. You can't get on TV as a politician or newscaster and call people that you don't agree with morons. Well you can't do it and still be respected.

I have zero desire to log in and see the forum filled with people calling people they don't agree with "morons."
