Yet Trump was expected to *know* in February.

Ah - I see now. I'm not interested in communicating with someone who is constantly angry.

Did you bother to look at your link showing excess deaths per week ranging from around 5% to 40% over any particular week since April?

We do know now that up to a third of the people who have had covid and seemingly recovered develop on going problems. These can be things like pain in the joints and fatigue which make life unenjoyable on to serious heart and lung complaints and some of the people who develop these ongoing complications had a very mild case. It is not just people dying which is going to be the consequense of Covid, it is also going to be a fair number who have probably lifelong illness.

And, what does that tell you? The data is pointing to most people who die from COVID as having some co-morbidities, usually several. They may die sooner than expected, but they are going to die fairly soon from something other than COVID. As I pointed out earlier, 45% of those who have died from COVID were in nursing homes or similar facilities. Possibly more as they went chronically undercounted in some states that counted them as hospital deaths. The real tragedy is that the sheep are so devoted to totalitarian control of their lives that many of these people die utterly alone.

You clearly don't understand what is meant by excess deaths. Excess deaths shows the number who died earlier than expected because of Covid related issues

In some cases, yes. Why? How about if it's 5 years earlier?

That's not what I said. Of course, I would rather he react based on the preliminary information he did learn. We know by his own admission that he knew in February that the virus was much worse than the average flu. We know he referred to it as the plague. We know that children were susceptible to contracting the virus. These three truths alone would suggest that more actions be taken then what were done at the direction of the WH.

More importantly, we know now what the virus is capable of even if there is more to learn. So whatever wasn't done in February, March, April, May, June, July, August, and now September, can be done now to curve the spread.

I'm only pointing it out because we are still in a position to do more.

    Where did I blame Trump?

Where did I “politicise” the message?

There is one death every ninety seconds

He DID know it was bad. He told Bob Woodward, on tape, in February.

Everyone dying from Covid in nursing homes were already on deaths door. Dems just look at 200k but not the age or who is actually dying. When you consider most dying from Covid would have died within the year from something else, it should provide perspective.

"They would have died anyway". Such a great campaign slogan. MAGA on the backs of the weak and old. No thank you.

They are not. It is the raw number of people who have been identified as a) dying and b) having a case of COVID. 94% of COVID deaths in the US involved one or more co-morbidities, meaning that many who were already diseased were hastened along by COVID.

In fact, there's strong evidence that many people who died this year should not have but lacked access to adequate medical care because of COVID and the totalitarian government response to it.

Versus "just be a good sheep and do what your shepherds tell you without question."

Something needs to counter your whiney fearmongering in favor of totalitarianism.

Fauci said in Feb. there was very little danger from the virus, and no masks were needed. That was AFTER Trump did the China travel restrictions over Biden's objections, which was before there was one US death.

Would the many deaths from suicide and increased drug use from the unneeded shutdown have happened anyway?

They were suicidal drug users? They probably would have died soon, anyway.

    /sarcsasm

In all seriousness, that is something that's been on my mind as well. I very much doubt the 200K excess deaths are mostly suicides, though. Do you have any stats on that?

Paul - you should consider that Dr. Fauci may not have had all the information that the President knew during his call with China. As Dr. Fauci learned more about the virus and the science evolved it allowed him to modify his guidance and recommendations. It speaks volumes when a man can modify his way of thinking based on new information and evidence learned.

We all make decisions based on current information and we modify our way of thinking as we learn more. One of mans greatest strengths is the ability to learn.

There is no excess COVID-19 death rate worth noting. If not for the lockdowns across the country since March 2020, that’s 200,000 people that would have died of something else (car accidents, homicide, heart attacks, strokes, plane crashes, etc.) if there had been no COVID-19.
