You're missing the point. How many more people died than would have due to COVID? First, 45% of all COVID deaths are in nursing homes. You know, people already at death's door. If COVID didn't get them something else, like old age, would.

The "excess deaths" are the percentage above the yearly average number of deaths overall.

Also, you'll note that not all excess deaths are due to COVID. One, deaths can tick up in any given year, or down. Two, with the shutdown of hospitals and delay of almost all medical procedures, hundreds of thousands of people are dying from causes that may not otherwise have killed them this year. That happened to my uncle. In November they botched a hip surgery. In March, they refused to do anything about it, and by the time they opened up again, he was too weak for the surgery and passed in July.

The increase in suicide, also, will likely increase the excess death rate this year.

So your premise is that in the next few months, we will go down by 200,000 deaths over expected?

There is no doubt in my mind that if I get Covid I am dead.
But in the mean time I am enjoying life. So to those who say I should just give up I say (*) you.

Some people don't understand the word "excess." It's a math, thing. Not for everyone.

I appreciate that you mourn American deaths but not British and and other countries' deaths from COVID. It is a reminder that we are still the only people who really matter to the world.

You just said our healthcare is like that of a 3rd world nation. You obviously don't think very highly of our doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

No other country has lost so many people and I think ours hasn't either. That's shows that the number are greatly exaggerated or for some reason, covid-19 is targeting Americans which i haven't seen any proof that covid-19 respects borders or nationalities.

Most people don't even know how to use masks properly. Wearing a mask can be more dangerous than not wearing one unless you follow proper hygiene and mask wearing/removal protocols. And, that's not to mention keeping the things sanitized properly.

It seems like the sheep have been convinced that masks are like talismans that ward off evil just by the magic of wearing them. By all means, wear one if it makes you feel better and shame those who don't. Probably the greatest benefit to a mask is that it keeps you psychologically aware of what is happening around you.

And, if you are concerned about your health, stay away from people.

Uh-huh. And the policy at school should be?
Like I said you are prolly one of those parents that would tell your kid to run around infecting everyone without a mask. With the excuse "Oh, lil timmy doesent like that." As if you never had to potty train or teach them about seat belts. Then wonder why all the teachers are young liberal types.
What experienced elder teacher would want to walk into one of your death traps?

Mask doesent protect YOU, its protects everyone else from you.

What is even worse is when folks politicize this. Describing the deaths and then linking it to one party or politician without factual proof is dishonest and disgusting.

virus has to make it through the population

Lockdowns and masking up hasn't made the virus disappear. What we have is a lot of armchair quarterbacking going on and looking to blame the POTUS. One size solution doesn't fit all in a country where one state is bigger than most of Europe
