There's a flaw in your analysis. Increased taxes will fall disproportionately on the middle class, not the truly rich. The truly rich can order their affairs to escape increased taxes to a greater extent than many people realize. Increasing taxes on the middle class during the course of an anemic recovery will reduce the net cash available to these folks. That result will in turn cause their living standards to decline. They will pull in their horns and reduce spending. Reduced spending will bring the recovery to a halt and trigger a recession. There isn't going to be a deal on the debt ceiling. That means there will be a ratings downgrade for the US Govt as a borrower. The costs of borrowing will increase. A recession and increased federal borrowing costs will undermine Obama's second term. Obama has nothing to offer to conservatives to make them cooperate with him.
And when you say Democrat you clearly mean Republican as they are the ones who kicked off all this debt after Clinton with the 2 wars. Clinton and Obama are the only ones who have ever reduced the deficit this much and this quickly.
