Since I am over 60, and I grew up in Europe (lived in Belgium, France, and England, and visited Italy for extended periods of time), but lived a great portion of my adult life in the US (California, Colorado, Pennsylvania and South Carolina), my wardrobe is quite eclectic, but generally very traditional and bordering on classic.

My favorite outfits are probably a simple black, well cut black slack (or well cut jeans) and a turtleneck cashmere sweater, that I wear with modern, simple jewelry and a Hermes scarf (I have 12 of them in many colors schemes). For Summer I like a simple skirt or walking shorts with a tank top and hand crafted jewelry in complementary tones.

When I stay home, I favor legging and baggy men's shirt (my favorite is a denim Polo men's shirt over black legging and flat ballet shoes). With this I usually wear simple, minimal modern stainless steel and black leather jewelry.

I think that fashion is a little silly, as what seems a real "faux pas" one year in Paris because it is the fashion of the year in the US often becomes the fad the next year in Paris!

I do not care for many of today's designer accessories. Many of them look like plastified cloth invented ONLY as a marketing tool to spread one brand or another! I used to love Coach purses, when they looked like real leather (instead of the plastified cloth with the Coach insigna on it), and when you could send your purse back to be "renovated" or repaired free of charge.

I believe that one of the difficulties many American face is that so many of them are overweight, and that almost nothing looks good in any sizes over size 12 or (a stretch) 14. Most Europeans can wear smaller sizes, so they automatically look more stylish.

Although, I once worked in a large Macy's store, with a wonderful "plus sizes" department, and I remember thinking that I almost wished I was a "plus size," because it is so much easier for a large woman to be striking if she takes the pain of selecting clothes made for larger sizes and so few large women seem to care about what they wear, or they try to wear clothes that are one or two sizes under the appropriate size for them.

It is much easier to look good in mediocre clothes if one is a size 6 to 10, and MANY women can do that. However, it is MUCH harder to wear "mediocre" clothes if you re a size 14 to 20 and look good. In the other hand, if a large person wears stylish clothes made for larger sizes, she really stands out among the MANY dowdy large women.

How is that going, btw? I haven't followed it. You'd expect them to quickly claw their way back to the top, is that how it's going in the wee league?

Chain mail is it? And a great big sword. Careful now.

Me too. You can do a lot online now though and the man uplifts returns from my greenhouse so...sorted.:D

That sounds classy. I went through a jewellery phase a few years ago and collected all kinds of gems and then came out the other end of it and it's all lying in a giant jewellery box doing nothing.

"Men" shouldn't care over much about clothes, IMO. Do you smell nice though?

So many women are large now, the clothing industry is catering more for that and it shouldn't be difficult to find decent things. US is not the only country with that obesity issue though, UK is at the top of the league as well these days. Lots of heavy people here.

One fashion which I can't make my mind up about is the up down hem. It looks ridiculous to me and I can't see it as anything but a fashion victim item, but I have seen women wearing this hemline and sometimes it is really, really stunningly beautiful and swishy, almost like a train on the dress. Thing is, someone called it a "Mullet" hemline.. forever tarred it ridiculous to me.

    Some mullet hemlines...

    Fashion victim alert...:blankstare:

Do people look comfortable in them?..

but then again I don't know...

In the 90's name brands were everything. Now days everyone just wears jeans and T-shirts. Name brand anything and you stick out like a sore thumb. The only ones I can think of is the kids who wear DC hats and Skin shirts. But yeah, people can't afford to be superficial anymore. Stores filled with $100 jeans have gone the way of the dodo bird. 9 out of 10 dudes just shave their head. What dictates your genre is how tight, loose, or baggy your jeans are. But I'm working class. I have no clue what fancy (*)(*)(*)(*)ers wear.

Not as easy as they thought it would be.

They have yet to win away from home, for one thing.

Stirling Albion beat them, just the other week.

And the mighty Annan Athletic drew with them, a couple of weeks prior.

Whit? No way. How can that be? Have they lost all their good players, or only playing the bad ones? (she said in an off topic post)

They lost some players, but they also signed players.

They will go up, I am sure.

    I think it is psychological.

When they go to those little teams, the little team play out of their skin.

Chinese people buy mountains of it though. Perhaps it depends on the economy. Maybe they are buying because the unaccustomed disposable income is a novelty and buying designer is a way to display (all right, try to show off) recently acquired means, rather than any genuine interest or long term fashion sense.

For me, it's pretty simple: T-shirt (often with Red Sox or Hot Rod Power Tour-related stuff on it), poly/cotton work pants (usually Dickies or Red Kapp), and boots...shorts instead of pants in warmer weather. Button-down flannel shirt or sweatshirt in cooler weather.

For Liz, it's also pretty simple: jeans or similar pants, usually form-fitting and always black or charcoal gray, anything from a halter top in hot weather to a long-sleeve thermal top in cooler weather, almost always relatively close-fitting and NEVER anything baggy. Summer, she wears jungle boots, winter, she wears thermal jump boots. She does not wear skirts or dresses (no more than half a dozen times in almost 20 years) and has never worn heels in her life.

I also have mixed feelings about those hemlines (mostly negative), because first, one must have great legs, long and slender but not skinny, one must wear high heels ( not comfortable) and one must be moving all the time to give that pretty "swichy" look. If one stands still for even a minute, it looks like an old bag.

I don't think it will last!

I don't like it. Do not like it. I think clean lines, regardless of hem length looks best.

Me - Cargo trousers or jeans, tshirt (usually featuring a metal band, cartoon/joke of some kind, or skulls of some kind), hoodie (usually with a band and/or skulls on it) or rugby shirt, trainers (usually Vans or similar) or walking boots if it's wet/muddy, and some kind of warm and waterproof coat as required.
My girlfriend - Cargo trousers or jeans, tshirt (usually featuring a metal band, cartoon/joke of some kind, or skulls of some kind), hoodie (usually with a band and/or skulls on it) or rugby shirt, trainers (usually Vans or similar) or walking boots if it's wet/muddy, and some kind of warm and waterproof coat as required.

Comfortable, functional, hard-wearing, fits our style and interests, and doesn't involve wasting money on any particular 'label' or 'designer' nonsense.

Yes, we do often borrow each others clothes! (although in shoes and trousers we are different sizes)

If we are going out for a meal or somewhere nice in the evening:

If they don't let us in, we go somewhere else!

We do wear other things for weddings, funerals and the like, if it's absolutely neccessary.

    Simple classic lines.
    No garish or loud colors.
No outlandishly fad clothing, classic clothing is ageless.
