Agreed. Common courtesy never goes out of fashion even though it's not very common in some parts of the nation. Mostly cities. In west Texas, people way at strangers on the road and will pull off to the shoulder to let a faster car pass.

I don’t see what that has to do with holding doors and it doesn’t answer my questions. Biologically, the woman you saw is exactly the same whether she’s wearing fatigues or civvies so the fact that difference alone gave you pause suggests that there is something beyond biology inflicting your door-holding habits. This isn’t an attack on you by the way. As you said, this is about how you were brought up, presumably (with respect) some time ago. The fact you’re open to discussing and rethinking this is actually a good start.

You are wrong. A woman in the military is just that. Not every woman joins the military and even fewer want anything to do with the manly parts of it.

Are you trying to convince me or yourself? After all, you're the one who expressed internal conflict when faced with a woman in fatigues which suggests you're not as definitive about the irrelevancy on her being in the military as you might like to believe. And you've still not explained the biological reason men should have doors closed in their faces.

I do respect women and you are implying that I am sexist. If you are willing to hold the boardroom door for a woman, simply because she is a woman, then you are the sexist. I have never and will never hold the door to the boardroom for someone simply because they have a penis. There are certain positions in life that must be attained through merit and merit alone. For the record......FOREVER.....doesn't justify the present, nor does it indicate what people believe TODAY. People like you want to take what has happened in the past and make the same thing happen today in reverse. That attitude will not solve anything. Instead of learning from the mistakes/lessons of the past you want to do the exact same thing. Revenge, cause that is how I believe you see it (just desserts, if you will) in the end solves nothing. Yes, it IS sexist to single out women and say you respect them as a group. That denies their individuality, it makes them into a "thing" you respect. Surely you don't respect someone who murders or steals BECAUSE it's a woman???!!! . It is naïve to think that everyone who made it through that boardroom door did it all on their own.
