It's the best solution but it doesn't prevent, because of the ageing process, the need to firstly go onto medication and then later onto insulin.

That reminds me, since you mentioned this. Visiting a friend, she gave me a plate of a salad I'd never had b/f and it's delicious - easy to throw together....

Chop up a head of cabbage (or however much you want to make)
    Chop up some granny apples
    Raisins (I use golden)
Nuts (any kind, but I usually use sunflower seeds)
Mix together w/Poppy Seed salad dressing.....

    It is delicious!

Well, ok .... but someday you're going to have health problems that you could have prevented.....

At least drink some Ensure, Boost or V8 juice every day to get some vitamins...

theres genetics but theres always a first generation that started diabetes

its the same with obesity, kids are born obese if their parents are obese but that genetic link started from eating bad

I like brocolli, for some reason. I hate the taste though, but I love eating it! Raw carrots are nice too...but they taste so much better when they have been dipped in a little bit of honey!

For the record there is absolutely nothing genetic about Diabetes. the only thing that's passed down the generations are the bad eating habits that lead to the disease. there is no such thing as a Diabetic gene.

Carrots are very healthy. Well, at least you're not dipping the carrot in that gawdawful sugar..... and honey is healthy. When I was a country kid, I would go out to our veggie garden and pull carrots out of the ground, wipe the dirt off and eat them...... so delicious!

I did it and I grew up very healthy. I also attacked the peas hanging there ready for me to eat. Fresh peas in the pod are so good. In fact, I ate the peas and the pod.... I would also eat a bunch of fresh tomatoes... then there were the delicious strawberries!

We had a real neat and yummy garden and actually, I ate it all up...

It's my bedtime .... good nite....

I love blackberry jam - blackberry pies - blackberries in my yogurt, if I could find them fresh.

Horsemen - I just had a tho't and it may be a dumb one, but I'm getting tired..... you're an expert on foods - what do you know about the juniper berry that's in gin?

Have a friend who has arthritis and told her about the raisins & gin remedy to relieve the pain... soak the golden raisins in gin for a few days in open container and let alcohol evaporate, then eat raisins.....

It's supposed to be the junipor berry in the gin that does the wonders, I guess. I'd like to buy some of those berries... they really sound healthy if they help arthritis..... what do you know abou tthem>

I need to sleep...... good nite.....

Paula Deen is a horrible cook..she has no practical training and for the life of me how she ever became so popular is beyond me..I saw her on "The Chew" a few days ago and she was crying on and on about her Diabetes 2 BS and everyone is going" Oh, poor poor paula"..she's become a paid spokesperson for Diabetes..what? she can't do it for free?? she didn't even know what a veloute sauce was ( one of the most common sauces in cooking) or how to cook polenta properly..
maybe it's her personality but even that leaves much to be desired..

Gin? for healing?...not so sure about that. and I don't think juniper berries are eatable or taste good. I tried some and they were horrible.

Exactly. She is just a country cook that poured it on thick when it came to sugar, butter, milk, syrup and anything sweet.

her recipes always end with a cup of sugar..lol

JB are believed to reduce uric acid, which is yet to be proven.
All I use the edible variety for is marinates, venison mostly, or other game.

There's a genetic component to all disease...for the record.

Type 2 diabetes is largely an environmental and lifestyle disease but to dismiss the genetic component of it is wrong.

It's the combination of gin & golden raisins that relieves the arthritic pain. Had never heard of it until a neighbor told me about it. Then one time I was going shopping & she asked me if I'd pick up a bottle of gin for her. I mentioned to the liquor store clerk about why I was getting the gin and she told me many people buy it just for that reason of arthritis and recommended the brand to get b/c it has less 'bite' to the flavor.... I had researched gin & raisins remedy and it's all over the internet.

I've always found old time home remedies interesting and if they worked for our great great grandparents, why not us? And they're better than the chemicals the drs prescribe...... anyway, I understood it was the juniper berry that's the healer in the gin. They taste bad, huh? Ok. Now I know.....

I have gout, which is to much uric acid in my body and instead of taking meds, I drink black cherry juice and lots of water every day, which prevents gout flare-ups. Gout is another form of arthritis, but I'll tell ya, I'll take gout any day over the arthritis I've seen people suffer with and some of them really suffer. Gout can also be controlled by limiting meats, mainly organ meats & bacon, which I happen to love.......

Then later I read that black cherry juice will also help reduce the pain of other forms of arthritis.....

This comes at no supprise. A overweight lady in her late 50s, with an appitite for salt, sugar, and greese. Did not even factor in genetics to come to this conclusion.

Observation is a powerfull thing. That's why the broadcast media don't show images and video of the real world of this earth.
