In reference to water usage restrictions/rules/fines, no such thing in my county, however, on other issues, we also have “authoritarian” mayors.

In other words, we’ve all been “threatened” by authoritarian mayors if we don’t abide by the rules.

That's not a justification for attacking medical science.

You may think seatbelt requirements are too much, too. But, that doesn't counter the fact that seatbelts save lives. The two are different issues.

And, today we're watching this preesident attack medical science for suggesting that masks help reduce the rate of COVID.

Trump is costing us the lives of citizens by assaulting medical science.

The US has more than 20% of world wide COVID deaths while we have less than 5% of the population.

We claim we're massively good at medicine

BUT, our national leadership is assaulting that medical science for reasons that can not possibly be more than partisan political BS.

No attack on medical science. The governor ordered a mask mandate July 1st. Everyone from my observation was voluntarily complying before the city Mayor and Council voted on a $2000 fine in the middle of August when Covid numbers were dropping sharply. Bunch of authoritarian flakes, they are. Homicides are up 60% this year, skyrocketing in June, then they defund 1/3rd of the police budget, and they want remaining officers to chase down mask deniers to raise revenue for the city coffers. Shameful idiots.

    Right.

All those little virus buggers will read Fox News and decide they have done all they can in backing their political objectives!

You failed to connect this to medical science in ANY WAY.

Medical science is not changed by what ANY politician is doing, saying, legislating, or whatever.

This administration has been assaulting medical science at least as early as the first of February and is continuing to do so today.

Trump is not shy about admitting that.

I didn't fail anything. I posted about a local fine for not wearing a mask. You made it a national "medical science" story about Trump. What does that have to do with my city imposing an insanely high fine for people who were mainly complying with "medical science" recommendations already?

Anyway, Trump is downplaying the virus. That doesn't matter to me, since governors are the people in charge of the health of the citizens in each state. My governor is following CDC guidelines, and I'm following whatever the governor says about safely reopening.

People act like Trump being controversial is something new.

The U.S. also has a massive illegal immigration and homeless problem, neither of which is regulated or monitored, yet heavily endorsed and welcomed by the political left in this country. Who tells that circle of homeless people on the street to stop sharing the same liquor bottle, practice social distancing, and wear their masks? Who tells the coughing illegal immigrants to go and get a COVID test and self-quarantine at home from their 3 less-than-minimum-wage, under-the-table jobs? There are cracks in the system everywhere in our Land Of The Free.

I assure you that the virus has no idea whatsoever about American election dates. The virus will likely be hanging around until Spring, at a minimum. We're heading into a new Fall season, which leads to flu season.

Where do you guys get the notion that the virus is politically aware. Not only that, you think the virus has a preferred political party.

You’re using a different (QAnon?) calander than everyone else

Floyd died in 2020 and the Chinese doctor died in February 2020

Not only that but the rest of the world is not formulating its Covid response with regard to the US election.

Bit by bit, it seems that it was manufactored hysteria, and the shutdowns were very damaging

Red state and blue state governors are behaving very differently.

Red state governors are trying to keep as much of the economy open as possible and cautiously reopen businesses which are still closed as soon as scientific data thresholds are met.

Blue state governors appear to be punishing their businesses (and employees) by continuing harsher and broader lock downs even though their Covid numbers significantly decreased 2-5 months ago.

    How is that not political?

The CDC needs to update these July 14th charts. Numbers across the country are better today in mid-September than two months ago. But the data still shows that some of the blue states which have harsh shut downs only had 1-5% Covid patients in their hospitals in mid-July.

The restrictions were supposed to be about not overwhelming hospitals, not about closing businesses and keeping people from working.

    ALL hospitalized patients:

It's not that he is "controversial".

He has continued to assault medical science.

Thus governors and mayors are left with the problem that medical science says masks are a necessity while the president says medical science is CRAP.

They are left knowing that testing is necessary when the president says that testing is the PROBLEM.

They are left with medical science saying that proximity of people is a problem while the president holds public events where people are crammed together without masks. (While he points out on tape to an attendee that his lack of mask doesn't matter, because HE is on stage with seperation!!!)

You want to white about local government when the president is actively working to make the leadership of well infomed local government IMPOSSIBLE.

We're fast approaching a million deaths worldwide and you see fit to call it a manufactured hysteria.

The CDC used to get their information directly.

Trump blocked that, leaving it to be filtered through partisan federal branches and significantly delayed.

Your charts don't show that the worst locations for COVID right now are N and S Dakota.

In other words, you are searching for confirmation of your opinions - and you're having to look DARN hard to do so!

With all due respect, railing about Trump making state and local governance "impossible" is hogwash. Both my liberal city Mayor and my conservative Governor ARE setting the mandates, mostly my red Governor. We've had a mask mandate here since the 1st of July.

POTUS can say whatever he wants to say. His rallies have mostly moved outdoors where the air circulation significantly reduces viral transmission. He had one indoor rally last week and the audience were all wearing masks.

Scrolling through the status of the states, it appears most are at least easing restrictions, if not completely open.

Those states that aren't easing up are of all flavors; red, blue & purple.

I see it as hot spot based. https://www.usatoday.com/storytelling/coronavirus-reopening-america-map/

You just keep wanting to believe that Trump is a totally irrelevant leader of America!!

I've never heard anyone strive to make that point so hard.

    But, it is COMPLETELY false.

The people in YOUR STATE follow what Trump says and form their ideas about their local leadership in the context of Trump's repeated assaults on medical science.

THAT is why Americans are failing to heed medical science.

That is why the USA has 20% of COVID deaths while we have less than 5% of the population.

And, there is NOTHING to suggest your state has been some sort of good example. Your state has ben one of the problems.

Last night I saw Bob Woodward on the Last word. I would defy anyone to watch that and come away with anything good to say about Trump. It's too bad no members of the cult watched.

You are claiming to be the earliest recorded case of Covid-19 in the world. Why don't you call newspapers or at least alert the CDC?
