I didnt pay the big $ to sample all the chili's, but did buy small bowls for the family to eat--chose the best looking and least hot (I asked! ha ha)---everything there is 3 alarms plus!

I have a long running complaint thread on a site called Pissed Consumer about what they did to Wolf Brand Chili. ConAgra bought it and immediately watered it down. Try finding a complaint dept for ConAgra. Or a person for that matter.

    Grrrrr

Last time I had "Woff Brand:"

"How long has it been since you had a bowl of steaming hot Woff brand chili..heh heh,... well that's too long."

It didnt taste like I remembered it!

Btw, I p/u'd and carried Conagra products in CA, and they are a low-budget operation!!

Yeah, thats what folks say on the thread. Everybody thinks they just got a bad batch. Shame, too. Wolf's always been a staple in my house. No more. Chili soup doesnt cut it.

My dad still makes the best chili (Mac's Red Chili, in the family recipe book)---he puts
the kitchen sink in it! He makes a big batch and then freezes it.

But I got burned out on Hormel and Stagg as far as store bought.

I've been stocking up a bit on canned chili.Because I use leftover meats in.
Plus add stuff like fresh cut mushrooms. No Onions.Given that pets
    get sick from onions.
Gold Star chili is good because it has a real grainy texture. In a sauté pan
with red wine added it will condense down and give that outdoor wagon train
grainy touch. But if not reduced it could be pathetic, better used as a hot dog
    garnish.Like in Chili dog.
Steak & Shake also has a nice chili. But Hormel w/beans is probably the winner.
It cost under $ 2 bucks at Wal*mart for the standard size can.
Chili is very versatile.I always add a touch of red wine and extras.
Like cut up sun-dried tomatoes. They goad like Roses on Valentine Day,they do.

Hiya Doc! I appreciate your advice, but enjoy being a free-agent. Never understood why folks have to limit themselves to one circle of friends. Besides... no matter where I am... there you are. So you really can't talk, eh? :icon_picknose:

Yeah, we have been going thru 3 days of crappy drizzle her in the Valley of the Sun <cough, hack>

Suppose to clear up Monday,,, less than 3" of rain, which is nothing for Dallas, but about 1/3 of our yearly rainfall in the desert!!

Got in my 'Fly Flotant' to keep my fly fishing flies above water longer (w/o only dry and floated for about 2-3 casts), but didnt have a chance to try it out!

Often the crappy weather we get from CA/Gulf of CA heads toward TX and my parents get it 2-3 days later, but this stuff is swirling around 4 states, and why it 'parked' itself here for the duration. Tonight will be our coldest day/night of the fall at 49 deg!!

Yeah, bad enough it's been cold & drizzly here for 2 days, but I saw a weather map with the real storm we're waiting for... circling over your head! Wouldn't mind an ice day Mon. In fact, I'm downright countin on it. ;)

Yeah, Dallas and Ice dont mix! Ppl there dont slow down for the weather conditions and rack up the accidents. I've got big rig horror stories driving in TX (duck soup fog in West-SW TX, solid ice in N. TX, etc.)....fortunately, I made it thru all w/o a scratch (altho I may have lost 10 yrs off of my life!)...

Dallas is hillier than people think too. Esp in my part of town. My house is in the middle of two pretty good sized hills and when it ices, there's always at least one delivery truck or mail truck that gets stuck. Last year, enough people came out to help, they actually pulled the mail truck away from the curb so he could get some traction. That rescue event was the first time I met my neighbors who live down the street. A very nice gay couple. White guy, black guy. ;)

Yeah, you live near Cedar Hill where all the antennas are/were?

Are you familiar with Denison? There is an elevated over pass tht banks left (going north), where one night I was carrying an empty trailer (meaning little weight on the trailer wheels to 'hold it down'), and the elevated bridge was solid ice, with a line of 10 trucks doing 5-8 mph in a line crossing it, and me being empty, my trailer started sliding down the banked overpass---I had to keep 'goosing it' but couldnt go too fast or would have lost the whole rig, and was driving right next to the railing where there was about 1' of snow that I could grab on to...talk about White Knuckles!'

But once crossed over to Okla, was 'OK' as they salt their roads and TX only sands theirs...better for the cars' paint jobs, but..!!

It's not just that we don't know how to drive on the stuff... we don't get it often enough to justify any precautions except those stupid flip signs POSSIBLE ICE AHEAD that always get flipped up in July so nobody pays attention to 'em anyway.

Hazardous to one's health. That's why everything closes down. Keep your fingers crossed I get an ice day Mon! :fingerscrossed:

It's not just Dallas/TX as I (was heavily loaded so good traction) went thru Ames, Iowa who shud be used to bad weather, at about 6 AM during the week, and I counted around 20 cars that slid off the road---same with Salt Lake City, where ppl who live there buy 4W drive vehicles, and I saw many Jeep Cherokees on the side of the road during bad conditions as they had a 'superiority' complex..ha ha
