When Severe gun control laws are imposed gun crime increases.

“The ban on handguns after the Dunblane
massacre has failed to halt either the
rise in armed crime or to undermine the
British appetite for shooting sports. To
the dismay of campaigners, who hoped the
tragedy would instill a lasting sense of
public revulsion over firearms, guns are
again fashionable in Britain.” Ian Burrell,
    Home Affairs Correspondent, “
THE INDEPENDENT, After five years, Dunblane remembers,” “Tragedy has
done little to quash appetite for gunplay,” By Ian Burrell, Home Affairs Correspondent, 3/13/2001.

    More Guns = Less Crimes.

Dunblane wasn't about the local newsagent being held up or gangs still killing one another. It was about trying to prevent school massacres. It's the same with all laws in all areas of society, you implement them to try and reduce fatalities. Laws do not stop all fatalities or crimes. People will still jump off cliffs, stab one another, take drugs or crash cars.

The way society works is that the majority have to walk with the slowest; the minority wreck it for the majority. So why not drive as fast as you want with no seat belt or airbag, no licence or no training? Because the minority run over people so we all comply with safer laws but it doesn't mean all deaths will stop. The sale of acids in the UK are now being restricted because of a handful of people throwing acid in people's faces. Why? Because the majority have to walk with the slowest in society.

Human Rights is a farce and the deterrents/punishments are not meaningful. I believe that if you are caught stealing, 3 strikes and you loose your hand.

Society doesn't work the way you want it to work.

Here's the link on gun/death stats. When you look at the figures, you will soon realise that America achieves our yearly figures in one afternoon.

One important fact with suicide - They harmed THEMSELVES and not a classroom of kids.

I don't even understand what that means. If the NRA is within the law then the cannot be blamed for anything at all. The law needs to be changed (amended) to make the NRA responsible before they can be blamed. So do it! Make it illegal to own or sell firearms to the public. Then (and only then) can any progress be made with the gun-violence problem. More guns = more shooting. Fewer guns = fewer shootings. Duh.

And U.K. does not deal with a huge criminal underclass as does U.S.A. we have more Criminals and hence, more crime.

If U.K. had as large a population, and land areas, diversity of people and a Racial past of oppression of minorities.

Gun control is not an effective policy as crime prevention or crime control nor can it be proven effective as such, so said Cesare Becaria in 1764, and it is just as true today.

I think that it was Churchill who pointed out America always does the right thing but only after it has tried everything else and failed.

As long as the NRA Gun Culture of Death continues to OBSTRUCT any and ALL proposals it will remain the PROBLEM that requires the primary focus so as to eliminate it's "death grip" on GOP elected representatives at both the Federal and State levels.

You speak as a child does, pure emotional outbursts and sans zero logic.

    Fact:

NRA is an Organization composed of dues paying Members, such as I and others voting and serving as nominated and elected to the board of directors of N.R.A.

N.R.A. has the express purpose of preservation of the shooting sports and the Right to keep and bear Arms.
N.R.A. does not have any legislative power and cannot introduce legislation and stays within the letter of the law and abides by all such regulations as an organization.

N.R.A. is not a lobby per say, since N.R.A. is representative of the general public as an Organization.
Contrast: the Tobacco lobby is not composed of members of the general public.

Making guns illegal to sell or own to and by the public is Unconstitutional and a vain and useless enterprise, I refer to my years as Constable in a Foreign Nation with very strict gun control, and guns being very expensive and most people could not afford firearms, still, any criminal could obtain firearms on the black market for a price.

Firearms restrictions seem to do good on the surface, however, I have observed such from the inside, as a Police Officer too, and strict gun control always does more harm than good.

Any claims for gun control are never made by people with inside experience, and Google sources are not supperior to actual experience anymore than Googled sources are supperior to a Medical degree.

More guns in the hands of law abiding citizens equals lower crime, this is proved by the many people holding concealed carry licenses, and those people prove to be more law abiding that their Police counterparts that have a higher percentage of criminal convictions.

Fewer guns in citizen's possession equals more crime and more shootings as criminals have less to fear from an unarmed citizenry.

I had this discussion many times with U.K. Police Officers, they see all citizens as potential criminals and not trustworthy of Arms.
Truth be known, most people are law abiding, so it matters not if a vast population owns guns, and Millions of law abiding citizens do own firearms, and over 99% never run afoul of the law.

Since most people are law abiding and never cause trouble or shoot anyone, and are fully vetted in order to purchase, obtain and carry firearms concealed, this is only the first defense, the second is a long list of Prohibited persons, and no matter how suchlike prohibited persons obtain guns, sooner or later in a routine traffic stop, they get arrested and charged with illegal carry due to criminal convictions or mental illness issues etc....
This is the second line and a reason further restrictions on firearms are unnecessary.

Firearms have legitimate uses, and AKs and AR Rifles are nothing to ban or restrict as studies done by the F.B.I. and B.A.T.F.E. shows that so called "Assault Weapons" are used very little in actual crimes.

Finally, since most people are law abiding citizens, further restrictions on Arms and concealed carry will not affect crime in any way and only serve to inconvenience those law abiding citizens and never criminals that never obey laws.

Slaughtering our own children in their schools is NOT a sign of a "civilized" society but rather the sign of a very sick society that worships firearms more than it loves children.

Fortunately only a small segment of our American society has this perverted obsession and the primary source is the NRA Gun Culture of Death. We the People need to excise that cancerous tumor so that we can get back to being a civilized society.

    "NRA gun culture of death"
Yeah, nice straw man. Why don't you present a real argument? It's clear you haven't read the article based on your post.

Terrible argument appealing to emotion. America, as much as you may want to think otherwise, is a civilized society. Gun ownership has been going up since the 90's and violence is down ACROSS THE BOARD since than, including gun violence. You're attacking a straw man, a silly straw man that those on the gun control crowd sincerely believe. You honestly think that gun owners who want the right to bear arms support the killing of kids? You think only a "small segment" support preserving 2a rights? LOL. Keep touting that line, great way for dems to lose future elections. The NRA exists to support it's millions of members and preserve their rights, by claiming the NRA represents a "culture of death" you're attacking millions of law abiding citizens.

A false statement, as an NRA Member and a Retired Police Officer and Constable, you should not engage in falsehood against an Organization that has long aided the fight against crime, aided Police and started many good programs educating the public and defending the Right to keep and bear Arms.

The only death grip in existence are composed of the lies and propaganda spread by Gun control advocates such as the Brady campaign and Mother Jones that only recently claimed eating 3 meals a day, to be "Racist".

Agenda based and Politically oriented organized gun control lobbying does no good as a crime prevention or crime control measure.

By prosecution of criminals for the commission of crimes and criminal acts can there be any hope of reducing Violence and Violent acts across the board.

Gun violence is a misnomer since there are too many manners in which people are killed and maimed by criminals without the use of firearms.
    Criminal violence the supperior term.

It's amazing isn't it. People actually believe the NRA wants to kill children and that millions of americans are evil because they own guns. Well, it's a great way to mobilize gun owners to get out and vote to protect their rights from idiots.

The MAJORITY of We the People SUPPORT universal background checks and keeping guns OUT of the hands of the mentally unbalanced.

ONLY the NRA Gun Culture of Death OPPOSES that legislation.

In 2018 there will be a referendum on the NRA Gun Culture of Death lead by the Parkland survivors.

My money is on We the People prevailing over the NRA Gun Culture of Death even if it takes until 2020 to make it happen.

The NRA are clever business men, they're very good at getting people to part with money to make them rich. Gun owners are oblivious to this.

The gun obsessed are oblivious because they are getting their fix by buying more and more guns. That they can't figure out that they are being duped into buying things they don't need says volumes about that demographic.

Fortunately the demographic changes should ultimately resolve this issue given that the NRA Gun Culture of Death has effectively alienated the Parkland generation of voters.

We already have background checks. You need to define "universal background checks" and explain why you think they will do better than our current system. Again, you're making a bad argument and straw manning everyone who opposes more unneccessary gun control as "not wanting to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unbalanced." This is blatantly false but you have no other argument so you resort to it. Universal background checks wont solve anything, the current system already checks for mental health/etc.. the real issue is the government not doing their job in reporting some of these cases to the NICS system. You probably don't know what the NICS system is though, based off your posts. The vegas shooter passed the background check, he had no criminal history. The pulse shooter passed, no criminal history. The list goes on and on.. universal background checks wouldn't have prevented any mass shootings. The system we have needs to be managed better, but even than it wont matter, mass shooters generally aren't criminals until they actually commit the act. You need to point to some specific legislation. The current gun control protests are just hysteria over a problem that is scaled up because of the media. It will go away soon enough, just like OWS and all of the other hysteria based protests that have popped up. Gun owners actually vote, unlike the majority of those protesting.

It's dodgy ground to say a rise in gun ownership has resulted in lower gun homicides. The National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine state in their executive summary that the necessary first step is to collect accurate and reliable information to describe the basic facts about violent injuries and deaths. They even point out that, "that some types of targeted police interventions may effectively lower gun crime and violence." So without proper research, your quote is purely juggling with figures.

    Don't need ?

    Says you lot and untrue.
I am N.R.A. and proud of it, and telling lies about me and the organization N.R.A. is libelous and slander.
As a Retired Police Officer, I saw from experience the fallacies of gun control.
For the record, NRA does not oppose adequate Medical guidelines prohibiting the mentally ill from acquiring and possessing firearms or any of the other prohibited persons currently listed.

Legally owned firearms by law abiding citizens is not causal of crimes as evidenced in studies by non other than the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the unbiased Uniform Crime Report.

Firearms are more often used to prevent crime than in crimes as evidenced in numerous Police Reports tabulated daily.

I never said a rise in ownership has resulted in lower gun homicides. But the argument a lot of gun control folks like to push is that more guns leads to more gun violence. That is just not true.
