“The January 6 committee, in its final public hearing until the fall, presented damning new evidence Thursday highlighting then-President Donald Trump's three-hour refusal to publicly condemn the unfolding insurrection at the US Capitol or to call off the violent mob.

    Trump chose not to act
The committee used Thursday's hearing to show how Trump not only failed to act, but chose not to as he watched the violent assault on the US Capitol unfold.
Several witnesses with first-hand knowledge of what was happening inside the White House on January 6 told the committee that Trump did not place a single call to any of his law enforcement or national security officials as the Capitol attack was unfolding, according to previously unseen video testimony played during Thursday's hearing.”

Donny not only failed to act, he actively chose NOT to do anything to address what was happening at the Capitol.
No statement to those who were attacking the Capitol that they should stop.
    No calls to law enforcement.
No calls to national security officials.
    No calls to the VP.

He just sat back and watched TV. Who can defend this?

    Yes, not a crime.

He could have set up a lawn chair with popcorn and cheered. still wouldn't care.

The Capitol building has its own security. The President does not run all the security, only at the White House.

This reminds me of the last Seinfeld episode where they get prosecuted under a "Good Samaritan" law, after they got temporarily stranded in another state and see an overweight man getting robbed and do not help him.

The story played on the cultural differences between New York City and Massachusetts. Trump is also from New York City.

That you think his actions/inactions were “not a crime” is the best you can say for him….??

Tell me, a foreigner would like to be reminded of the number one responsibility that a president has…?

Nobody. They aren't trying to defend it. They just want him to have special treatment and not answer for his crimes.

I've never supported Trump, but if he hasn't committed a crime he shouldn't be indicted...and indicting him is exactly what Democrats are trying to do.

I never said it was a crime.

It was, however, the president’s responsibility to act in the best interests of the nation. To do everything he possibly could to help.

And he not only failed, he made a conscious decision NOT to help.

Any patriotic American should consider that as a disqualifying act in terms of holding future office.

Who said anything about an indictment? Again I ask, what is a president’s number one responsibility...?

Not to mention that he made thousands of national guard troops available days before and no one accepted them who could have.

You’re repeating another RWNJ lie. I’m sorry you have been conned by those who spread misinformation.

But hey - even if you’re right … that wouldn’t excuse the 187 minutes of conscious inaction.

    Do try to focus….

This is about the more than 3 hours while he did nothing (except cheering the rioters on!). In direct dereliction of the oath he took. But you will vote to put this piece of human detritus back into power, given the chance….right?

Can you expand on that concept a little bit? The connection between the oath, and not sending additional protection.

It won't matter if you do or not. He is not interested in civil debate or considering others' viewpoints.

In another thread, he stated that the men who were abused by priests when they were boys "deserved it because they got paid" (the Vatican paid settlements) so "oaths" clearly aren't a priority for him in the least bit.

Are you going to continue going off topic about this in various threads?

I strongly agree with that very rare creature……..a principled Republican.

She claims that he should never be near the presidency again….

Is it because you are scared he is going to win because Biden is an abysmal failure and perhaps the worst POTUS in United States history?

He has never won an election for POTUS and he won't win if he runs again because he's a pos loser.

We fired the Orange Toxic Waste for not doing his job. Keep in mind he put a target on his own VP and threw his nasty daughter crush under the bus after her testimony to the J6 committee so if you think he gives a damn about you, you are sorely mistaken. I bet there are some people in prison right now that wondered how they backed somebody that disavowed and ignored them after manipulating them into committing crimes.

That has nothing to do with Biden.

I'll repeat the question for you, the one you have avoided with garbage.

What is a president’s number one responsibility...?

Foreigners like Ant and myself are curious to know.

It's sort of in a grey zone. It's not really clear the President had responsibility for doing anything about this.

His attempts to remove protection were dubious and half-hearted at worst.

What absolute garbage…! If you are stating that honestly, then you must have no knowledge about the US, the presidency, nor the Constitution…!

There is a fair amount of truth in that.

Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. That responsibility is, curiously, in the Constitution. Even foreigners are allowed to read it.
