I voted other, I would like to make it easier for people to come into our country legally through work visas and business sponsorship. Also I would like the road to citizenship not take so long. On the other hand I think those businesses that employ illegal immigrants should have their business licenses taken away and be fined heavily. Punish those that supply jobs to illegal immigrants and I think you will see far less illegals since there would be no work for them. Basically do not try and cure the symptoms, cure the disease.

I keep hearing that same thing over and over get a handle on spending. I have no problem on getting a handle on govt spending, my problem is the way the teaparty wants to do it.

They want smaller govt yet they refuse to raise a minimum wage that has american workers, WORKERS not bums, junkies or criminals but american workers having to recieve govt taxpayer paid food stamps so they can buy food.

Paul Ryan puts for budget proposals that Cut SS and Med and Medicaid, Food stamps and Unemployment and then gives a full 28% tax cut to the top 2% richest in the country and corporations from 35% to 25%. Sorry Smartmouthwoman that just doesnt compute with me.

The teaparty FIGHTS to keep subsidies for the richest corporations in the billions Big Oil, Big Pharmaceuticals and Big farmers.

Nah sorry we share the goal of cutting spending but we are miles apart on how to do that.

So you agree govt needs to spend less but you're all for the govt making private companies pony up more money for 'livable wages' for burger flippers. Sorry, I don't agree that's the way we should go.

Major corporations pay higher wages and offer better benefits than small businesses can afford. I see nothing wrong with encouraging big biz to hire more Americans into those good jobs by offering tax incentives. And encouraging people stuck in min wage jobs to find more generous employers.

I saw a headline yesterday that more money is being sent from the US to Latin American countries than ever before in history. Which means higher min wages would just mean more money leaving the country.

Not exactly a sterling idea if ya ask me. ;)

Re my vote on this poll: OTHER

I believe American citizenship should be something people have to work for... not something that's handed out just because they were successful in sneaking into the country and flying under the radar for years.

The innercity area I live in is majority Mexican, in fact, my zip code is only 13% white. I find Mexicans to be mostly hard-working, family-oriented, church-going people who do whatever's necessary to support their families... and afford those $1000 chrome rims for their cars. That might mean driving around neighborhoods with a chain saw and mower... or living 12 to a household... whatever it takes to make it. I have a great deal of respect for their customs and traditions. It's not unusual to see whole families at the grocery store... from grandma to babies, it's a family thing. There are bad people in every race, including Mexicans. But I've never been treated with anything but respect from brown people in my city. They've brought new life into many shopping centers that were boarded up after the 'white flight' to the suburbs. Business are thriving... meaning taxes are being paid. I harbor no bad will toward Mexicans.

Here's where my opinion usually differs from political types... I think many, maybe even the majority, of Mexican people in the US are only here for the financial opportunities. They love their homeland and if things were better there, they wouldn't be here. If that theory is true, offering citizenship based on some serious criteria like learning to speak English, background & criminal checks, etc.... a LOT of Mexican people would go back home.

IOW, they're only here because we refuse to enforce our own immigration laws. Between enrolling their kids in school, opening a bank acct, renting an apt, etc.... we have a million opportunities to know who's here illegally and start the procedures AS OUTLINED BY LAW, case by case, to either make them become citizens or send them back to Mexico.

It's a little ridiculous to call it immigration 'reform' -- you can't reform something that didn't exist in the first place.

It's nothing but amnesty for what Dems hope will be a strong (read: needy) voting base.

    My $.02.

Wrong questions and wrong poll. No wonder why polls have mostly fake data.

Immigration is not the issue for vote.

    ILLEGAL immigration is the issue.

There is nothing wrong with the current legal immigration to the US. Everything works great.

The problem is the illegal immigrants demanding to become US citizens.

Your poll will give fake results.

I believe that they should allow anyone to immigrate to the United States so long as they have not committed any serious crimes. If a person is a suspected terrorist or a convicted terrorist then they definitely should not be allowed to immigrate if that conviction or suspicion is true. Its up to the authorities to determine whether or not it is true. Also, if someone is a convicted rapist, murderer, etc then they should not be allowed to immigrate to our nation either. I also believe that those who have come here illegally but who have committed felonies whether here or somewhere else should be deported back to their home nation.

But anyway, other than that, I am all for the open borders policy. I do think there needs to be some sort of road to citizenship for those who have been here illegally for several years and who have not committed any crimes and who are contributing to our society in some sort of meaningful way.

So if 300 million people from the Indian subcontinent decide to head to the US to take you up on your generous open borders policy, do you think that would be a net positive for the people who live in the US now?

As of right now, I have no idea. I don't think it would be a good idea for a sudden influx of 300 million people to come to the United States all at once. However, if it happened over a period of time like 50 or 100 years then it might not be a bad thing.

That said, perhaps I should clarify about the immigration thing. I am for the open borders policy which simply means that as long as you're not a criminal who has done something seriously wrong then there should be the possibility of you being able to immigrate here. Of course I also believe that each candidate for immigration to the United States should be evaluated and such. I think perhaps that it would be a good idea, for example, to insure that they already have a position for a job they can have here in the United States so that way they can contribute to society rather than rely on welfare.

as long as the immigrant is educated and economically sound to where they dont have to suck off the government teet then im good with them coming here. Illegals and welfare whores need not apply though and need to be gone.
