RIP Herman Cain. And yes, a 74 year cancer survivor with several other comorbidities died from COVID. There will be several more 70+ cancer survivors with several other comorbidities that will die this year and not all will be due to COVID.

Dude - the subject of this thread was the dismal GDP numbers of the last quarter - you're the one trying to deflect by pretending that CNN is responsible for those numbers.

Trump tweeted Thursday: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”

Golly. That appears to be a question, not a directive.... I know, you don't understand the difference.

Ok, they are dismal. That doesn't excuse the behavior of CNN who are characterizing it does it?

And you don't seem to understand that it was stated that Trump suggested it - nothing was said about it being a directive. Yet.

Yes, the size of the drop is quite surprising.

Lol, the new Trump supporter position: The numbers are dismal but there's no excuse for CNN reporting the truth that it is dismal. This is hilarious.

Well google censored the news articles. I had to find them using duckduckgo. Think about that one for a minute. They are now curating what the CDC director says.

    https://iotwreport.com/cdc-director-says-there-are-more-suicides-and-overdoses-than-covid-deaths/

I realize that this won't change your opinion in the least even though it proves that the "cure" is worse than the disease. Facts don't matter to the left. I wish they would quit pretending that they did.

Which has nothing to do with the policies that led to bad numbers. Government officials (yes, that includes Trump) made
decisions which influenced the GDP. And businesses themselves made decisions on their own to restrict the spread of the
virus. You are trying to deflect by blaming this all on CNN. It's an asinine suggestion.

In what way? If 80% of businesses were deemed either non essential, or had to limit their output to 25%, why is the drop surprising in anyway?

Sorry, but the fact remains that Trump didn't shut down the economy. In fact, some states never locked their citizens and businesses down like our governor did without even acknowledging the fact that such extreme measures were never necessary in many parts of the Commonwealth. Of course, Governor Coonman has a history of costly overreactions that cost our residents and businesses tens of millions of dollars. This time it will cost us exponentially more.

As for Barack "Blame Bush" Obama, he never accepted responsibility for the lousy results of his own economic policies, which really amounted to nothing more than increasing taxes and regulations and imposing more costs and mandates on individuals and businesses.

It is funny how anyone would attribute this disaster to Trump as opposed to the virus that has shuttered the country for weeks, months, and maybe into more than a year.

And to compare our economy to other economies? Obviously no economics majors here!

Same on the growing deficit with bipartisan bills giving away trillions of dollars. Trumps fault!

Now I know how to be a liberal. Just remove 80% of my brain and I am ready to go!

He didn't suggest it as a cure, he asked the question should we discuss it. Again, not the same thing, so why characterize it as if it was?

Your article didn't come from the CDC, so no, Google isn't "censoring" what the CDC director says, nor have they likely "censored" your sources.

Your own source says you are wrong. "Roughly 146,000 people have died from COVID or COVID-related causes in the U.S., according to CDC data.

The most recent publicized federal data records 48,000 deaths from suicide and at least 1.4 million attempts in 2018."

    Protip: 146,000 > 48,000

This ain't rocket surgery. I realize this won't change your opinion even though it proves you are wrong. Facts don't matter to Trump supporters. I wish they would quit pretending that they did.

He linked to a video claiming it was a cure and that masks/shutdowns were no longer necessary because of said cure. That was the issue. Catch up.

Well, the fact is that you don't know what the death tolls would have been if the virus had been ignored. Brazil tried that and
it worked out very poorly for them.

And someone who can think. Unlike some people who think they're a lawyer. Why don't you address the recovery rate? What is it, like 98%, 99%

I've done grad level economics work. Of course we would compare the US to other countries in this situation specifically BECAUSE this virus is global and the economic impact isn't.

Trump has supported deficit growth. Only his fault? No. Partially his fault? Yes.

Now I know how to be a Trump supporter. Just ignore 99.99% of the facts and I'm ready to go!

So, again, ignore the point being made. CNN demands daily that the economy remain shuttered. Do they not? And the, gasp, the actual results come out for exactly what they have been demanding and it isn't their fault for reporting that Trump killed the economy..see, these here numbers say so" approach to their behavior.

How about this. Do you demand the economy remain shuttered?

Because we have all seen that when Trump wants something done, he often uses this type of phrasing to suggest it. It's
not like Trump doesn't have a history in office.

That there WAS a drop isn't surprising. The MAGNITUDE of the drop is. Get it?

Wow lock down US businesses and it’s economy for months at a time and this incredible loss of GDP happens so completely coincidentally.

Happening in Europe as well so that’s a multiple coincidence.

Who could possibly have predicted this????

I don't actually know of any business that is closed at this moment (Florida), which is why i'm asking.

edit: sports stadiums is all I can think of, comedy clubs I think as well.

I don't "demand" anything. The smartest thing to do would have been to have an aggressive temporary shutdown with an aggressive testing plan to go along with it, followed by common-sense measures like continued widespread testing, social distancing, and mask-wearing. Countries that did this have had less economic contraction and were able to get back to work sooner.
