Tracking the COVID-19-Virus in Germany, the USA, Italy and other hot spots in the world

Just an observation:How come no one seems to be infected with the original "Chinese" variant? It seems like everyone either has the "Kent", "Indian" or "Brazilian" variant. We don't even hear about the "South African " variant anymore. Even in China it is the "Indian" variant that is giving rise to local lockdowns

I know that viruses mutate but it still makes no sense as the "Chinese" variant vanished so quickly whereas the "Kent" variant has lasted for so long. I predict that the "Kent" variant will naturally disappear during the summer in the Northern hemisphere just as the "Chinese" variant did last year. It will be replaced with a new variant in the winter with a toss of the dice whether it will be more or less severe than the "Kent" variant

 

Difficult to answer, since I am not a pro in this area, but it is common knowledge (or at least taken as common knowledge) that the original, or "wild" strain of the virus came from China and in my readings, I have yet to read that the original strain is the one that causes the most problems. Also, it is entirely possible that the original "wild" strain caused far more problems in China than their so-called numbers reflect. I for one do not know if the wild variant has disappeared at all, but it is true that one strain can cause the extinction of another.

 

So, folks, pieks-pieks! It happened: I received my first vaccine shot. It was chaotic at the doctor's office, but after 2.5 hours it was finally my turn to receive a dose of Pfizer/Biontech. In exactly three weeks, I will receive the second shot. In the 6 hours since the shot, I have not grown a third eye, nor has a leg sprouted from my head, so all is looking well. But the shot did make me quite tired, I just took a 2.5 hour nap in the middle of the day, quite unusual for me.

Starting tomorrow, my professional will rev up to close to 100% by the weekend, so I am not sure I will have time to do both an extensive USA monthly analysis and an extensive Worldwide analysis. If I have to throw one of the two to the wind, it will probably be the USA analysis. Wait and see.

I am seeing very strong signs that this pandemic may well end for all intents and purposes by the end of this summer. That would be a wonderful gift to humanity and my laptop battery would be very thankful for it!

STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:​

The month of May 2021, just like the month of April, 2021 was, will go down in Covid-19 history as the month of India, for India hit it's peak of the wave at the beginning of May, stretching up to +400,000 cases per day.

The situation in India is so terrible, it makes Brazil's situation look good by comparison, but in reality, nothing has changed in Brazil. Brazil is also more often than not over +3,000 deaths per day and like India, there are makeshift crematoria all over the land. They simply cannot bury their C19 dead fast enough.

Conversely, in the USA, now 130 days into the new presidential administration, approximately 54% of the adult population is now fully immunized. And it shows in the USA numbers, where the 7-day rolling average in +cases is now around +25,000 and in deaths, well under +700.

This means that while most of the world is recovering from a 3rd wave, the USA is not suffering what would have been it's 4th wave.

A reminder: in March 2021, I upped the number of nations that are being tracked from 28 to 41: Daily tracking extended upward from 28 to 41 nations, posted 2021-03-018,16:46 UTC +1, #13256. I upped that number again from 41 to 46 during the month of May, 2021.

Of the sum total of 46 nations I have been tracking on a daily basis, there are some other success stories apart from the USA where nations appear to be currently beating C19 back quite successfully, with Israel, Portugal and Morocco leading the way. Also, a number of eastern European nations are showing a reduction in their overall +numbers: Poland, Czechia, Romania, Hungary and Ukraine. More on this below. Reading the numbers that prove this requires some discernment.

Strangely enough, through all of this, Greece appears to be forgotted in C19 history. Either they are not testing in Greece or there is something there that is keeping C19 effectively at bay.

On the other hand, but not on the same extreme level as India, Nepal, Argentina and Colombia have taken off and are quite obviously experiencing a major surge.

The tracking tree is a good way to get a quick and reliable overview of the situation at hand without getting all down in the weeds with too much numerical minutae. It's also an excellent way to determine if your eyes are good or if perhaps a visit to and opthamologist of your choice would be a good thing to do....

Always searching to build a better and quicker mousetrap and knowing that the top 46 nations I am tracking on a daily basis account for at least 90% of the Covid-19 activity across the world, I've took the USA monthly excel table I've been using for a while and adapted it vis-a-vis worldwide stats for the top 41 nations being tracked, in 3 major rubriks (cases, deaths, tests) that can be sorted a number of ways and therefore eliminates the need for so many other WorldOMeter screenshots.

WORLDWIDE TOTAL C19 CASES, DEATHS and TESTS (top 46, monthly calculations):​

Here we can see that at the end of April 2021, the top 46 nations accounted for 91.83% of all the world's cases and 92.60% of all the world's deaths. WorldOMeter does not provided a composite total for all tests, so what you see in the green zone is the sum total for only the top 46, not the entire world.

Sorted three times in the same table can be good for your eyes. We can see that the top 5 in total cases is not necessarily the same top 5 in total deaths or total tests. For instance, Brazil is rank 3 in total cases, rank 2 in total deaths but rank 11 in total tests.

Here we can see that numerically, India once again swept past all other nations in +cases (almost +7 million), +deaths and +tests, a stark contrast to the month before.

We see a stark statistical rise in Asia, a result of the C19 explosion in India, to be sure. Asia now leads in total case, whilst North America has fallen to rank 3 in that rubrik

So, keeping it more concise these days....our goal is for every country to be more and more like Oceana, where not hardly a case can be found, and just as few deaths.

It is my firm hope that we really are seeing the tail-end of this pandemic and that the numbers should slow to a drip-drip of almost nothing by year's end. More than likely, India will overtake the USA as the number 1 nation in total C19 cases in June 2021, July 2021 at the latest. The USA is posting numbers that hearken to the very beginning of the pandemic in that land, but even if the USA hits a stride of, say, +8,000 cases per day and no more, it would still go over 35 million total C19 cases by year's end. The more important factor is the high level of immunization in the USA and in many other lands, which should help us to get to herd immunity and kill this thing off before a fall wave can appear. That gives the world, at least the Northern Hemisphere, 4 months to get there.

How can Brazil’s cases be rising? Hasn’t everyone already had COVID in Brazil?

 

It may feel that way to some, but 214,000,000 people live in Brazil and less than 17,000,000 have been "officially" infected so I would say there is a while before we reach the ceiling on this one....

 

I am seeing strong signs of the pandemic abating in the vast majority of European nations and am hopeful that soon, the number of +cases / + deaths will slow to a barely noticeable trickle on that continent.

Portugal has already been their for a while.

But I am seeing major improvement in Eastern Europe: Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Hungary.

Things are definitely slowing down in Germany, but it's not yet a trickle.

France? Hmmmmm, not totally sure about that one yet. Ditto for Spain. Italy is doing better than Spain.

England is seeing a slight uptick in cases, still at or under +0.1% growth rate (which is good), but decidedly less deaths, so yeah, vaccinations are helping and that is outstanding.

The Belelux nations are not really at a trickle, but they are not surging, either.

Austria has done a superior job of testing and is definitely hitting the trickle zone.

Switzerland is also seeing greener pastures now.

Sweden is simply far too inconsistent for anyone to get a clear picture. The way Sweden presents its data, its as if they really don't care.

And it's almost as if the pandemic went right by Norway, Dänemark, Albania and Greece. Weird, that. There are many small islands in Greece that never reported even one single case of C19.

Officially, Russia, Ukraine and Byelorußland belong to Europe:

Russia is in a holding pattern, probably because they are fabricating the numbers, anyway.

Ukraine is on it's way downward, still too many +cases for my taste but definitely less +deaths.

Byelorußland, an extremely authoritarian regime on it's knees in front of Putin, cannot be trusted with any Covid-19 numbers, so there's that.

I could actually write the same about Turkey...

Across the world, in most places, there is a verifiable slowdown:

In Morroco, a not-small nation in Africa, close to a stillstand.
Isreal is moving toward zero cases per day.
Jordan is doing considerably better these days.

India's neighbor Nepal appears to have the worst behind it.
India is on the decline, if you can call an average of +150,000 cases per day a decline.

the USA is currently whipping Covid-19's ass. That's good news.

I am seeing verifable upticks in:

Argentina
Colombia
Bolivia
Chile
Malaysia
South Africa
Saudi Arabia

And a plateau in Iran.
Canada is at a lower plateau.
And Mexico at an even lower plateau.

If the trends continue, then the world as a whole may come under +100,000 cases per day as of August, 2021. That may be wishful thinking on my part, but I am very hopeful that we are seeing the true tail-end of this pandemic.

So, folks, times are changing and so should I with them. If C-19 +cases continue to fall as they are and many major countries from last year (foremost among them the USA) continue to see C19 essentially dry up in their lands, then it looks very much to me as if the last really large, intensive analyses from me will be the End of June analyses, which will also be the half-year analyses.

Then, starting in July, 2021, I will continue to log the C19 stats at the online excel table but only post concise analyses every 7 days, most likely according to the following schedule:

EOM, then for the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th of each month.

This means that for each month, a different weekday (or weekend day) would be the target for a weekly concise analysis.

In the USA, we will soon be reaching the point where an entire month of +cases will be less considerably less than the USA's worst day in the middle of the winter wave. Also, at this rate of slowdown in terms of C19 cases and deaths, the only two states likely to still pass a major rubrik marker are Michigan (now approaching 1,000,000 cases) and New Hampshire (now approaching 100,000 cases).

Then, as of the Fall, if things continue to slow down more and more (this is my fervent hope), then I will stop logging the C19 numbers at the excel table every day and start logging them just once a week, probably sticking with Wednesdays as my target day. Tracking these numbers every day now for 15 months is starting to become a tiring affair for me and as my business life charges up to 100%, I simply won't have the time to track this subject with the same passion as during the heighth of the pandemic.

The goal, of course, is to completely kill off Covid-19, to wipe it off the face of the planet. I don't honestly know if that is going to happen, but when the numbers really are closing in on essentially +0 cases and +0 deaths, then the time will come to officially close this thread. I am really hoping that this thread will have served it's purpose by year's end. Wait and see.
