Before we get started today, 2 important notes:

first, as indicated yesterday, there was no report for Wednesday, 2021-05-019. Uhm, sorry. The reason for this is in THIS posting. However, if you go to the overflow link for May 2021, covered in the "REFERENCE LINK" above, you will find the barebones screenshots for the Worldwide and USA values for that day.

Second, when you look at the worldwide +cases in this analysis for 2021-05-020, you will see a calculated value in my excel table that is far lower than the value at WorldOMeter. The reason for this enormous disparity (a scenario also covered in the "REFERENCE LINK" above) is this:




This is, in my opinion, very, very bad book-keeping and makes no sense. All along, nations have been counting positive test results. All of a sudden, France is only counting the number of PEOPLE who have tested positive, not the actual number of positive test results. This means that people who have either been infected more than once or simply tested positive more than once are now only counted one time. What a bunch of poppycock. It especially makes no sense as some people (not a large number, but still worth noting) who caught the wild (original) variant of the disease last year have now once again been infected, this time with a different variant, so scientifically speaking, ignoring the number of people who have experienced this phenomenon is phenomenally stupid.

When the USA broke over 30 million total confirmed Covid-19 cases on Saturday, 2021-03-013, India was 18.7 million cases behind the USA on that day. As of 2021-05-012, it was 9.8 million behind the USA, so over two months, from 2021-03-013 to 2021-05-012, India roughly halved the distance in cases to the USA. Not long from now, India, if it continues at this pace, will easily pull ahead of the USA and become the No. 1 nation in the worldwide Covid-19 case rankings.

Again, this is the reason for the over 360,000 cases removed from France's C19 statistics. I already indicated my opinion about this malarkey above.

On 2021-05-005, I wrote the above posting and promised to revisit it in about 2 weeks to see how things are holding up in terms of predictability. At that time, with handicapped values, I wrote that India was experiencing +312,000 more cases than the USA and would surpass the USA in the rankings in 41 days from 2021-005.

Now, working with the statistics from 2020-05-020, 15 days after this posting, we have the following:

As of EOD, 2021-05-020, the USA had 33,833,181 cases and India had 26,030,674 such cases. That puts the USA +7,802,507 cases ahead of India.
On 2020-05-005 the USA was +12,646,425 cases ahead of India. This means that India has now come 4,843,965 (essentially, 4.8 million) cases closer to the USA.

Currently, India is advancing at an astronomical 7-day average of +283,508 cases per day, while the USA is advancing at a 7-day average of +29,583 cases per day, which means that India is advancing +253,925 more cases per day than the USA. On 2021-05-005, India was advancing +331,719 more cases per day than the USA, so there has been a sharp decrease in the raw +values. As of this point, the math is simple division:

7,802,507 / 253,925 = 30.7 days, using these exact statistics, until India overtakes the USA in the overall rankings.

Since the +cases in India are definitely shrinking some, let's handicap that value from +253,925 down to +225,000:

7,802,507 / 225,000 = 34.7 days, using the handicapped number, until India overtakes the USA in the overall rankings.

So, 15 days ago, I was projecting 41 days until India overtakes the USA. Now, fifteen days later, the projection (with exact values) is at 31 days or, with handicapped values, at 35 days from now.

The truth is probably somewhere between those two estimates, putting the time frame in which India will become the number 1 nation in the world in Covid-19 cases at:

between Sunday, 2021-06-020 and Thursday, 2021-06-024.


Without a doubt, in the month of June 2021, India is VERY likely to surpass the USA in the overall COVID-19 rankings.

Those charts are from the top and bottom of the continent of Africa and we have nothing of any merit in between so with that absence of actual data we can only speculate that Africa is about to start a 3rd wave with even less resources than are available in places like India and Brazil.

And sure enough a quick google for the BBC and Africa turns up two articles essentially confirming the above speculation.

So what is happening in India is now starting in Africa and probably also in places like Indonesia too.

This Pandemic is still going to be around until at least 2022 at this rate.

An additional note about India:



If you look at columns Q and R, you will see that India has performed more than 2 million tests per day over the last four days and the rolling 7-day average in tests is continuing to rise, so a decline in daily +cases cannot be linked to less testing. If anything, India is testing somewhat more than in the month before, but when you consider the sheer population of that country, it should be testing at a rate of at least 5,000,000 tests per day in order to even scratch the surface, imo.

Now, without knowing exactly where the increase in testing is happening, it's hard to know how effective this is as a metric, anyway, but at least on the surface, India appears to be hitting a plateau in daily +cases, while the average in daily +deaths continues to incrementally rise. If that is the case, we may be looking at this form of misery in India for a number of months to come, in spite of the fact that most of the rest of the world is quite obviously recovering from the latest wave.

The horror I experienced as the USA went over +100,000 cases per day starting right around the US elections in November, 2020 is still etched in my memory - and what a nightmare it was to watch these numbers continuously climb, to note, during the end of the Trump administration, which never took any responsibility for any part of the pandemic.

We just saw India have circa 25 days of +300,000 or more cases per day, from 2021-04-020 through 2021-05-015, something we never saw happen in the USA. This stuff makes the USA's suffering almost look like kid's play, but of course, none of this is kid's play.

I am pointing these details out in the hopes that we will not become numb from seeing such astronomical statistics.

Researchers working on a joint university study between the german cites of Frankfurt (am Main) and Ulm are claiming to have found the reason why the Astra-Zenica vaccine is causing cases of thrombosis in some people (mostly in their legs) and they think that the problem is relatively easy to fix.

The article is in German, I do not have time to translate all of this, but the core of the issue actually has to do with the hard core inside human cells. The researchers say that since COVID-19 is an RNA viris, it's spikes never reach the hard inner core of human cells, but part of the vaccine, kind of like a super sleuth, enters the hard core and this may cause problems. The researchers say that this is not necessary and it is possible to adjust the vaccine so that it does not invade the hard core of human cells. They also say that the vaccine would be every bit as effective this way.

I understand the principle behind this, but this stuff is frankly above my pay grade, I am not trained medically, so if anyone with a medical background would like to pipe in, I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

The sudden retraction of circa -350,000 cases in France 8 days ago also caused a skew in the worldwide aggregate statistics, so the sudden jump in the 7-day rolling average from 2021-05-026 to 2021-05-027 reflects this as the minus value from France 8 day ago has now fallen out of the statistic and for this reason, for both the worldwide and the French statistics, I have changed the tendency to "statistic re-established".

As you can see, one year later, the USA is doing considerably better. On that weekend in 2020, the USA was on the cusp of the first 100,000 total C19 deaths. On the Sunday (2020-05-024) directly before Memorial Day 2020 (2020-05-025), the USA recorded +19,608 new cases and +617 new deaths. As you can see, one year later, the USA is doing considerably better. On that weekend in 2020, the USA was on the cusp of the first 100,000 total C19 deaths. As I wrote above, on this day this year, the USA had no units with over +1,000 daily cases and for the first time since 2020-03-022, the USA had overall less than +10,0000 cases. On Memorial weekend Sunday one year ago, it was 4 states over +1,000 cases (IL, CA, NY and MA). This is the massive advantage one has when one pays acribic attention to details over a long period of time, as I have done: we get very exact, very specific and above all else, verifiable comparisons.

The end-of-month analyses are pretty intensive and take time to do well. Here the schedule:

-these four postings are the screenshots of the Worldwide figures and the top 46 nations. 28 Of them now over 1,000,000 C19 cases, which means that two nations went over the 1,000,000 mark in May 2021.

The Worldwide and USA figures are currently preliminary.

-later on in this day, I will publish the final USA figures in the form of a very large analysis, likely spread over 2 postings.

-Tomorrow, on 2021-06-002, I will then publish the end-analysis for the Worldwide figures for 2020-05-031. WorldOMeter has a "2 days ago" function at its main table, which allows us to wait one more day to see the final numbers. The advantage to this is that nations that may be adjusting their total figures will have one more day to do so. Like the USA analysis, the worldwide analysis will be very large and will likely be spread out over 2 postings. With the USA and Worldwide analyses I will be adding a link to a screenshot overflow thread at my blog. This will be explained in both analyses.

I've eliminated a lot of extra text in these five postings. The exact growth rates will be calculated on a separate table, as always.
