Really? And how rapidly can a modified gun fire?? 750 - 900 bullets per minute - that is more than 10 per second

So what is the average reaction rate of the average person and the accuracy of said person in that circumstance??

The problem with guns on a plane is it requires highly specialized training to use one without endangering other passengers, the crew, and the plane itself. An airplane is a perfectly reasonable place to restrict firearms.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but that rate of fire is nowhere near realistic.

The variables are too numerous to try to quantify. However, if a person comes in shooting you're better off being able to shoot back.

I do not advocate open carry in public.

That and you can only use hollow point ammunition as well. I am all for conceal carry but I agree that some areas should be off limits to everyone except trained law enforcement personnel.

Though I do not advocate open carry, the above is a red herring. Criminals hide their guns. I have never once seen an open carrier and thought my safety was in jeopardy -- and I've lived in four states that permit open carry. I have on occasion seen a few concealed weapons that gave me pause -- either from my perception of the character or the style of concealment.

One potential issue with that, for long rifles do you believe in the right to be able to transport them without an automotive vehicle?

JHP is almost a given in any law enforcement scenario -- the exception being SWAT and sniper teams.

That's what a gun-free zone is. It's a sign that magically stops bullets or some nonsense like that. It is an indication to a would-be assailant that they are highly unlikely to encounter any kind of resistance and can essentially shoot fish in a barrel. Only in this case, the fish are your kids.

And even if someone outside is aware a school shooting massacre has just been initiated, they may be reluctant to enter the school to do anything, for fear of being prosecuted after all the dust settles.
Once again, these laws only apply to the law abiding.

Better hope the police have a fast response time.

You know, what I'd be worried about isn't a lone individual just trying to kill people but a group of several individuals trying to take the kids hostage for some reason, possibly even a kidnapping.

Yes it is "human error" which is why we invented seat belts and safety razors because Humans are really really rubbish about doing the right thing safety wise

But I found it interesting how many of those stories talked of having the weapons inspected and even disarmed at the entrance to the gun show

Could it be that there are enforced safety measures also acting to prevent mass shootings??

Ad I notice you dodged the very clear example where there was a shooter, there were open carry people who SHOULD by your theory, have put off a potential mass shooter and not only was the shooter not put off but the OPEN carry members RAN AWAY!!!!

And it was the NRA that first suggested that the schools become gun free zones

Then you need armed security, metal detectors, xrays, and patdowns at the entrance to the school. As at the airport. A sign is not sufficient.

I believe that the Major, an officer, in the Army is the first Army person to shoot up a base. Where the guns are. So why are our Army bases so safe? I ask Democrats this time.

Why pick on the NRA? Because you are told to by Democrats and the Media? They train cops.

Here in CA if we give schools the same protection we give our Court houses, such killings won't happen.

It is easy to miss a round left in the chamber. That is why good practice would have you clear the weapon every time it is handled. An unloaded weapon cannot fire. To properly clear a firearm, you should not only visually inspect the magazine, breech, and chamber, but also put your finger in the breech. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been handed a “cleared” handgun only to find a round in the chamber,

But then again, the number of woman drivers I see applying makeup on the freeway is equally troubling. And some men, too — this is California after all.

No. You are referring to LaPierre’s response to Columbine. He was referring to students bringing guns to school.

Retreat is always the first and best choice when possible. This is the first thing you will learn in any credible defensive firearm training. Not firing your weapon is always the best outcome. So laugh at those responsible adult citizens all you wish, but they did exactly the right thing.

Obviously a sign is not sufficient in America

Here in little old gun free Aus we do not even need the sign:p
