So how can you stop the shooter when you are running away?

    Come on

Let us work through the logic of all of this

No evidence anywhere that a sign saying gun free zone influences the decision. Where and when to commit a mass shooting

I have demonstrated with at least one example where the gun man was not deterred by the sight and presence of armed citizens and there is considerable investigations confirming that the signs are irrelevant

    https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/03/no-mass-shooters-do-not-target-gun-free-zones/
    https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/analysis/gun-free-zones.html

But the contention remains in relation to the "good guy with a gun". Who must be either Superman, Rambo or The Green Lantern because it seems this mythical hero can disarm a shooter whilst running away............

We need to remind them all of Federalist 46 and the discussion contained therein.

It explains to the people that the Feds never will get huge but the people of the state will always far outnumber them by a factor of 25 if not more. Guns in the people of the states are not to be infringed, as to the people's rights.

I've said this before, statistics show that 75-80% of soldiers in military combat do not engage the enemy, they basically hide in their dugout and shoot into the air without aim.

Now, if 75-80% of TRAINED soldiers cannot muster the courage to engage the enemy, how to you think those statistics work for random good guys with guns who's only "training" is target practice at the gun range? Most of them will run away like everyone else, or hide and not use their gun, because that would prompt the shooter to engage them specifically.

Of course, it is easy for all these gun toters to be heroes on anonymous internet forums, when they have never been close to a mass shooter situation.

What a coincidence. Those are about the same as the percentages of responsible gun owners who do not commit mass shootings compared to those that choose to use them to harm others.

Its been typed out many times on this forum that Gun rights are bipartisan....

Dunno how that fact is lost on some people around here.

I certainly never made that claim.

Nor did I make that argument.

    Which specific example is that?

Yes, that is correct -- they do not stop mass shooters.

Yet nearly every mass shooting occurs in a gun-free zone.

Yet nearly every mass shooting occurs in a gun free zone.

Good guys with guns stop violent crimes routinely -- when possible. These include police officers, security professionals, and private citizens. The first two are trained to ascertain the source of the violence and to move toward it in a judicious manner as to be able to assess the situation and chose the best course of action up to and including lethal force. The latter is trained to retreat whenever possible if in a public place -- but to use lethal force if it can be articulated that lethal force is being used against them and they cannot retreat. As I said -- and which you conveniently ignored because it contradicts your Rambo narrative -- the best outcome for an armed private citizen is to not have to fire her weapon.

Yes, and humans make errors -- which is why it's called human error. What's your point?

The point is that rational people don't have guns at home, because they know the probability of being shot by your own gun, through your own mistake or that of relatives/friends, is higher than the probability of defending yourself in a home invasion.

Yet they have cars — which are far more deadly.

    Me too!
Picked up the handgun I ordered over the internet!
Laid my CCW permit on the table and skipped over the background check.

Maybe all the 'assault weapons' hanging on the wall were neutered?

Back in the 60's at Kings Guns in L.A. they robbed and killed the owner. After that the guns stores started to open carry.

The more one drives the more you increase your probability of getting into a car accident. Are the only rational people the ones who don't own a car? See how absurd it sounds???
How could my gun possibly shoot me if I don't keep it loaded and don't ever put my finger on the trigger until it's pointed down range at a target?

My wife has been up in northern Idaho for the past two weeks looking at properties. She can’t get over how nice and polite everyone is. A good constitutional carry state it is.

The study that claimed that defined rival drug dealers as friends/acquaintances.

And, they could have shot everyone to eliminate witnesses, or, emboldened by their success, they could have moved on to bigger and deadlier crimes. No way to tell.

MMMM,I've lived 63 years without carrying a gun & I have never been a victim-sure bet that there are others out there that like me have never carried a gun & haven't been victims!----just saying----
And how would anybody know you have a bar of gold unless you do a "stupid" thing like wave it in the air & crow to the world that you just bought a bar of gold---there is an old adage--" If you go looking for trouble-you are going to find it"Common sense dude, common sense----

That last sentence — the first thing you will lean in a credible defensive firearm class.

Yes there are others like you but also others who did not have protection and suffered the consequences. And then people whose gun saved their lives. So all kinds. You could be killed tomorrow, right? By a crook with a gun. I could be too, with a gun, but at least with my gun, the odds for my survival might go up just a little. I am ok with that. A little bit of odds is better than none. My life is at stake. So, a little odds is acceptable.

When the world is rid of criminals who are out to hurt innocents, I will gladly lose my gun.
