This is just nuts. Now DeSantis wants to whitewash history. After claiming that rainbows were bad because they “indoctrinate kids” and apparently make them gay, he is literally legislating that they be indoctrinated about black history.

Folks, when we start revising history for political purpose, we are done as a society. Can anyone think of any leader in history who did that…umm, Stalin…..Hitler…Mussolini……Bueller….Bueller….Bueller…..

I remember the mini-series "Roots" showing slaves being beaten, raped, shot, shipped off, split apart from their families, and hung ... not sure
I remember it showing any great "benefits" of being a slave ... but I guess it all fits with MAGA idea of "freedom" these days.

Did roots show that the first slave owner in this country was black?

Let’s get serious for a moment, as bad as slavery was, were it not for slavery a lot of people now in this country wouldn’t be here. What other country is torturing itself over slavery these days besides us?

You have MAGAs trying to equate making a cake for a same sex wedding with slavery, so it should come as no surprise that they try to minimize the actual horror of slavery. From their POV white conservatives are the real victims and nothing can be allowed to challenge that, not even the experience of people who were held as property.

So much the same as how the first European invaders of the Americas treated the native peoples then?

Would you want to be made a slave if 20 years later you might get a 5 cent a day pay raise when you are freed? Cause this is what you
are arguing for. And you're pretending that all these slaves would have been failures in their own countries? Sounds like it.

By the way, MOST civilized countries ended slavery be legislative action, not by killing 700,000 of their fellow countrymen.

I wouldn't want to be a slave or any of the people who captured and sold them and those folks never get the full credit they deserve. Right now, today, there are an estimated 40 million slaves in the world and the only slaves the left is concerned with are the ones that are long gone and which we can do nothing about. And if by chance someone brings up the countries where slavery still exists, then they're called racists or islamophobes or chinaphobes or Mexiphobes.

BTW, the left tells us the descendants of slaves can't make it on their own without help. It's the left who considers them failures, that's why math and other essentials are being dumbed down.

Again your post is bombastic bull crap.

kThe basis for a great deal of family wealth in the US, was built after WW II, when VA loans, the GI Bill and Business loans helped
kick start the fast growing economy of the 1950s and 1960s. Institutional racism and segregation excluded a number of minorities from
participating (Yes, I know there are always exceptions) but for many that was the reality. That put minorities behind when it comes
to being able to use that wealth to educate their children - which built even more wealth. So, ON AVERAGE, the opportunities just
weren't as available. THAT is the inequality many are talking about.

What you say may have been true in the past, but not today. Have you noticed how many blacks have become multi millionaires based on merit, specifically in sports and acting. On the other hand, successful blacks like Ben Carson, Allen West and Mia Love got ripped to shreds by the same people who said blacks are mistreated?

Cool, maybe DeSantis will force the schools to produce smarter children instead the ball sucking they’re doing right now at their jobs. It’s not like they can get much dumber.

But I get it. You think students who fail is cool so long as they know white man bad and want to get their dicks chopped off and go beat women at sports. In which case yeah, DeSantis sucks! How dare he try to reform a failed system full of failed liberals who can’t do their jobs! What a shame they don’t have the freedom to suck ass!

Why don't they teach things about this? I guess they figure they ought to let the kids smoke a pipe because he's probably not going to see age 14

What a knucklehead DeSantis has become. Maybe with his new history he could talk the slaves 401k program too. :)

Folks, like i've al ways said, The left needs race hustling to survive. Without their grip on the black vote they are NOTHING. Look how nervous it makes them. I hope DeSantis's new curriculum also includes that Whites didn't start slavery, they ENDED it

I'm not sure what MAGA has to do with anything, but who is arguing about the great "benefits" of being a slave? That's not what the article said. What it said was:

Some of the issues raised surrounded standards that include instruction on “how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit” and lessons that touch on acts of violence perpetrated “against and by” African Americans.

So yes, in some instances, skilled slaves, who were loaned out by their employers, were paid, which was split with the master. So some could earn their own money. But to me, that seems like a bare minimum, not a great benefit, as you characterized it. Is that what you think the curriculum teaches? That it's a great "benefit" to being a slave?

Ugh! White privilege! I'm repulsed! I'm sure that tyke jumped the line of employment over more skilled and deserving adults of color!

No one denies the horrors in the history of slavery, but there are complexities and contradictions in that history that defy reduction to a bumper sticker. This story is from personal experience.
In 1979 I was assigned to the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Andrew Young led a delegation of Black businessmen on a tour of several African countries, including Tanzania. Their objective was to identify investment opportunities.
As the delegation was departing after their visit, one member said, "I don't know about you all, but I'm glad my great-great grand daddy caught that ship." His remark was met with general assent and approval.

African Americans received some ‘personal benefit’ from slavery
To be accurate, blacks received some personal benefit from skills acquired while enduring slavery, not from slavery itself. There has never been a personal benefit from slavery. One more example of politicizing every word written everywhere. I got this information from the linked article. It doesn't say what the title infers.

That's true, you're right. Glad you got that off your mind. No idea of the relevance to the subject so let's move on.
