You can say how it was.... but has nothing to do with how it is now.... with the KKK supporting the republicans like Trump.

The point being made was that the OP stated no Republicans owned slaves prior to there being a Republican party is like saying that there were no US States with slaves prior to there being US States. The OP's statement is absurd at best and should be an embarrassment to the OP.

While it's true that the Democratic party was the party of slavery and Jim Crow it's also true to say the south was. Now the Republicans here will run away because they're cowards and they know any indepth discussion of this makes them and their party look like the disgusting bigots the members of the democratic party were a hundred years ago. See the democratic party has moved on from its abhorrent history but unfortunately the south hasn't.

The civil rights act of 1964 is a damn good representation of this. Over 80% of Republicans in the House and Senate voted to pass the civil rights act of 1964. Republicans love to point this out too. But, a majority of Democrats voted in favor of it as well. Over 60% of Democrats in both the House and Senate voted to pass it. Not nearly as much as Republicans but still a majority. However there is another little nugget of information here that is very telling. When counting the vote by region an even starker divide appears. Its turns out Northern states whether represented by Democrats or Republican votes to pass the bill by over 90% while representatives of both parties from former Confederate states voted against by 90%. Now that's telling.

So while saying the Democrats were the party of slavery and Jim crow is technically accurate it's even more accurate to say the south was. And while the Democrats have moved on from the shame of that history the south has embraced it. The south continues to fly the despicable flag of the confederacy and protect monuments of soldiers and leaders who fought for it. And who does the south vote for now? Answer that one if you can cowards.

What is true is the Democratic party defined the South of the slavery and segregation and Jim Crowe days and gave home to those ideas and the people who institutionalized them and practiced them and fought to keep them. What is true is it was the Republicans who stood against those practices and who finally beat the Democrats and got the CRA and VRA passed into law. And your statement that tthe South hasn't "moved on" and is the same South of those Democrat days shows a distinct lack of knowledge, not allowed to use the term ignorance anymore, of the history and present day.

The republican party was the abolitionist party, born of the need to oppose the slaver democrats.

    All 24 of them?
What do they support about Trump and the Republicans? Their pro-union position? Ahhh that would be Democrats. Their anti-Israel positions? Nope that would be Democrats. Their tax the corporations and wealth and "fighting for the little guy". Ahhh I think that is Democrat thinking.

We're talking about the here and now, not 24 presidents ago.

How about you look it up?

Of course I gave a bit of history including facts about the breakdown of the vote and all you did was come here and complain. If the south has moved on why is the Confederate flag so prevalent in south and why do southern states pass laws to protect Confederate monuments?

There have been 19 republican presidents with Lincoln being the first. The 24 number mentioned isn't presidents. And it is here and now.

I dunno why you don't want to admit to the here and now... that the KKK supports the republicans, like Trump. The republicans simply have a hostile attitude to immigrants from muslim nations and latin American, while the KKK is a pro white society group.

    So there you go

And I elaborated on that history. And protecting our historical monuments and sites has nothing to do with the VRA or CRA. Again to try and compare the South of the pre 1970's is folly.

Apparently they do support Trump, or much of the insignificant number of them does.

NAACP and BLM are pro black and there are significant numbers of them.

There's nothing wrong with being white. Or black. You don't get no choice.

Okey Dokey,But it's up to YOU to prove that.
Any chimp can mimic or act out.
But to attain credibility one has to make the case via hard
evidence as to a person being a criminal or a scumbag.
Unless you feel you're TOO above having to prove anything.

Because we all know there were Right-wing Nazis and Right-wing Fascists.
Again ... it up to YOU to establish that.
Words only hold meaning when they are credible.
Satire needs good use of Irony applied to current issues
and Punditry needs credibility as to people, places and things
    based in fact.

Lol. This thread was started because one of you wanted to compare the Democrats of the 1960's to today. So transparent. This is why you guys are so entertaining. You think if you're clever enough people might go hmmm, maybe its really the Democrats who are racist instead of the Confederate flag waving, Robert E. Lee statue worshiping southern states that voted against civil rights by 90% just 54 years ago. Lol. At least you try.

Um, Dinesh D'Souza pled guilty to violating campaign finance laws. That makes him a criminal.

No they were for higher taxes and against big corporations and pro-union and big government and did not want a strong American internationally thinking they could appease the Communist, they were/are a lot a like on many issues.

Are you that ignorant of D'Souza's history to NOT know he's a felon and spent time in prison?

Y'know you're probably right, There WERE almost definitely right and left wing Nazis. Jeebus, you have to wonder which would be worse. Guys who wanted bigger toilet buckets on the cattle cars vs guys who wanted the Jews sharing the cars with the cattle.
